The viewers for make up and skin care are still here. It's just our financial situation has changed and watching someone tell me I need a $1,000 worth of make up to achieve a nice look no longer works for me. Gas, food, heating have taken a large chunk out of my disposable income! A $40 lipstick has gone from a luxury item treat to groceries. Bottom line. I enjoy your videos!
I agree. I consume more drugstore videos and dupe videos. I can't do high end. I'll also do "Shop My Stash" or just tutorials that mention several brands across price points.

I love watching RUclips. All videos including shorts. I am not into the tik tok madness. It could be my age of 51 or it could be watching my 4 kids totally addicted to it. It drives me insane. Keep up with the content Kelly!!
For the RUclips views, I don’t think it’s just the forms of content (tiktok, shorts) nor do I think it’s about less content being put out….I think it’s the subject of the videos. I used to watch all the videos about all the makeup and skincare all day long. But since I started working from home and not wearing makeup, I now watch aquariums being built and people cleaning their houses and cooking meals. My point is, I think peoples’ interests are changing.
1) you look so pretty today!! Love the look!!! 2) I don’t like makeup on tiktok. I don’t need to see the same person do a look every day in 1 minute. I like RUclips so much better because I feel like I get to know the creators I like on a more personal level, and the reviews seem much better too!!!

Thanks for answering personal questions! I prefer RUclips over TikTok. If I want snapshots of something, I will look at Instagram. But even then, I don't look at that one much. My younger work friends send me funny Tiktok videos 🤷♀️
I love RUclips and I know its not going anywhere. But I will say, makeup youtube is definitely boring me currently. Makeup isnt about tutorials or creativity right now. For like 2 years its only been pushing products. We dont want products anymore. I really like your deep dives!
I loved the part when you said Tilly smacks the TV, that is so cute. I adopted a 13 yr old cat recently, I bought him the fish toys that Tilly loved, he is not at all interested in them. He pretty much is not interested in any toys. He is a very sweet boy though
I only watch long form content :( I hope the algorithm swings back in that direction. I like to play long videos while doing other things. I hate having to be glued to my phone to watch short form content and constantly changing what I'm watching/finding the next video.
I like to listen to something all the time when doing laundry etc. RUclips is good because I don’t have to follow a story. Love your content and the thought you give to your work.
Go green! Happy to have a fellow Sparty in the makeup community. On a more serious note, my heart goes out to you as you continue to grapple with and establish life with your dad gone. Your story about using his car pulled at me as I now use my mom's (she passed four years ago). It's bittersweet to see it in the parking lot or pulled in a driveway and not have them around, but at the same time always holding them near.
i enjoy your content because you’re one of the VERY FEW creators that make me feel like i have to run and spend allllll my money on the everything that releases every 5 minutes. your content actually has substance and i have so much respect for you and your channel. your style has changed so much, in a good way, since you moved to new york, and i’m so happy that you’re happy. 💕💖💕
Views are probably down because there seems to be something weird happening with the RUclips algorithm. It shows me limited things and often pushes the same videos that I've already watched in my recommended feed. I've been spending more time on TikTok because the feed on my FYP is more varied. Also, for beauty content, I would like to see less BUY BUY BUY content and more using what you have content. Using old favorites, shop my stash, using old products in new ways, products you repurchase, etc.
@@jessicam7010 exactly. I mostly already have what I like and would like maybe to feel inspired to use what I have in new creative ways. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing about new stand out products, but I already have more makeup than I'll ever use.
Exactly i don't actually run every month at Sephora to buy 30 new products just because RUclips ! Plus many times i have my own opinions and i have also favourites that i keep buying.
I don’t watch TikTok at all. I recently deleted my account since I’ve never really used it. Lately life has gotten very busy that it’s hard to catch up on RUclips videos. I’ll watch without commenting at times too. I normally will watch when getting ready for the day.
I think there’s room for both, and I hope it stays that way! ❤️ I’ll always be a RUclips girl for chatty videos, vlogs, full faces of products and seeing what sticks in the routine, empties, favourites etc. But there was point where some RUclipsrs were taking like 15 mins to review one product - full intro, reading the claims, close ups, packaging, initial impressions, conclusions and I’d find myself skipping through most of the video, this is when tiktok makes sense!
Regarding personal relationships, heck, as a viewer I will say if there is anything I am interested in, it is Tilly's shenanigans. Cat videos rule the internet after all. And even then it is still your choice of course.
I got out of watching YT for a few reasons, but the biggest were that I don't need anything and my daily rhythm changed after losing my sweet old pooch. As a younger dog, she always played, alone, with pooches, with people. She was such a happy, fun dog. Love that Tilly entertains herself!
Thanks for sharing in this Q & A. I wonder if one of the reasons for lower viewership across RUclips is because things have opened up more and there is more travel/getting together? It’s also summertime, which I think means more people are out and about and watching less content overall. Either way, I really enjoy seeing your content, especially the focus on using what you have and playing with techniques rather than new releases.
please read this. I think views are down because we are in summer/vacation season. personally i watch youtube videos often and more regularly during the year when i have my work routine, or the weather is cold and i am doing more indoor things. in the summer i am out all day enjoying the weather + if i travel, there’s no time, or no wifi to keep up with videos. maybe you tubers just noticed this this summer because for a couple of summers we were still in lockdown covid mode. i would be interested to know if in the fall the views go up or stay the same as these couple of months
Hi Kelly! Loved this getting to know you video! I just picked up Nude Truffle the other day, and it's so nice. I used it as a liner but then decided to just use it all over! So fun!
I’ve been watching youtube, specially beauty content, for the last 12 years or so, and I don’t think any other platform could ever replace youtube for me. Even though I use and enjoy other ones too, youtube and the videos on here are something completely different for me and I definitely enjoy youtube the most. 🤗 Also, love that lip color on you! 😍
I agree completely about the shift in content. I find myself wanting to be a bit more innovative as I have been wanting to consume something "different" if that makes sense. Great topic!
I know I will GET A LOT OF HATE for this BUT I LOVE CROCHET & SPINNING WITH WOOL! Like I said I crochet, sew & I started learn how to spin this year when I attended Minnesota Fiberfest in May where I was able to buy Wool from Shepherds who are working to SAVE Certain Kinds of Breeds of Animals that are Endgangered from going Extent and these are Livestock Breeds as well. Michigan Fiberfest was Last week which is SO MUCH FUN! Kelly if you want me to unsubscribed because of this because I will.
I love knitting and spinning! So much that I got into farming and now have my own handspinner flock of Romeldale CVM sheep. 🥰 They're a rare breed and listed as Threatened on The Livestock Conservancy conservation list.
Another fiber artist here! The fact is, however someone feels about using animal fiber, the breeds we have were domesticated thousands of years ago to keep us from freezing to death. They will die if they're not shorn! Unless we let them go extinct, we have a duty to take care of them, and not using their wool would be nonsensical.
@@gasparinha I fully agree with you and I signed up for Shave them to Save them to support the Shepherds which is also a challenge to see what you can make with said Fibers.
I am so happy for you that you are dating and seem to be happy about it ☺️ thank you so much for expanding my vocabulary, I love the way you express yourself and I am learning so many new words from you 😇
I watch RUclips everyday and love makeup try on, GRWM, new makeup, try on hauls. I am sad to hear makeup creator views are down, I am sure it will pick back up!!
I watch youtube all day everyday. I cancelled all my subscriptions like netflix and have just kept youtube premium. I watch a really broad range of content and yourself and maybe a handful of other beauty youtubers are ones I still watch. Other kinds of content creators, like those who do video essays or true crime (a very popular type of video lately) are still getting very high views. I genuinely think it’s the beauty community on youtube that’s taken a huge hit now that quick, short makeup tips/reviews are on IG or tiktok. I started watching you by watching your rise and downfall series, which was recommended to me because I do watch a lot of video essays. I liked your personality and your way of filming, which leaked into your other more beauty-heavy based videos.
I enjoy watching RUclips as I watch it on my tv. I don’t watch it on my phone. It’s nice to sit down, have a cuppa and watch my favourite RUclipsrs including yourself x. Also I don’t have TikTok. I don’t really understand the hype. Keep up the good work with your videos. From Australia 🇦🇺
I consume a lot more project pan content now, which is a more smaller portion of the beauty community on RUclips. Like a lot of other commenters have mentioned, my spending habits have changed due to the pandemic and inflation so I want to see more of what people are using in their collections versus “hauls” or “first impressions” of items that I don’t need, I won’t use etc. I’m finding I’m unsubscribing from other RUclipsrs who constantly have something new and more often, limited edition, to talk about because it doesn’t align with how I view my own collection and why I want to watch any more.
I watch some tik tok but definitely watch more RUclips HOWEVER I do find that I'm not watching new people as much. I just stick to my favorite few people's videos and that's it. Im loving vlogs and lifestyle most lately but also love your conscious consumer content, project pans, and shop my stashes since I'm trying to work through my own products and not buy as much too.
As someone with sensory and cognitive processing issues the current approach to short form content by social media platforms is really frustrating. I used to not be able to watch short form content at all because it was so painful and uncomfortable for me. Now I can watch a few videos before my brain says no but for example the fact that Instagram puts short form content on its explore page makes it really difficult for me to go on there, and even my feed sometimes is too much for me. I’m used to my accessibility needs being ignored but I wish we could acknowledge that not everyone is able to watch short form content in this discussion since the current online environment is just really exclusionary to people like me
One question I would ask Kelly is how often cat hair sticks to her lip products😂 We got a medium haired one a few yrs ago and it's astronomical even with vacuuming every couple of days 🤭 Anyway, viewership MAY be down, but it comes in ebbs and flows. One reason is her dedication, BUT ALSO her current innovation 😊 One thing is her new series "Affordable Fridays". A cursory glance at comments refers to this. However, a huge trend on TikTok is luxury, which is what used to be trendy on RUclips. Being "relatable" is also a big one, so maybe trends on TikTok are more broad? Understandably so, since the format is so popular/short.
I live somewhere that I never have to drive too. I don't miss it either whenever I go home and drive my mom's car. I thought I would when I first left, but definitely do not.
I had to laugh at the U of M thing. In Arizona, I learned quickly that any one wearing U of M was just a sports fan. If they were wearing MSU, they were from MI. 😁
Personally, I do not like the tik tok format for make up, I prefer a longer video when doing reviews, or trying products. Also, due to economy, I think that I am going back to the makeup that I own instead of buying new one, and I go back to old videos for inspiration, and even if I watch new product videos, I try to see what is similar in my stash instead of buying. With that said, I love the content in your channel and watch every video!
I purchased one of the floppy fish toys for our cat Minerva and she doesn’t play with it, she just lays on it and sometimes uses it as a pillow 😂 she will make it move and then put her paw over it to try and make it still. I don’t know if she thinks of it as her friend or what but it’s very cute
Just speaking for myself, I’m still a RUclips lover. I still haven’t downloaded TicToc. I know that I’ve felt super guilty because my life has sped back up to almost pre pandemic speed. I simply don’t have time. I drown myself in RUclips for a few years and it helped me get through all the world craziness. Such an awesome distraction. I want to so badly support all the channels I subscribe to but it’s simply not possible right now. I feel like I need to send apology letters to some of the folks I simply can’t get too. They were there for me when I needed the distraction and now I’m not there for them. It really makes me sad. I want everyone to do well in this space.
I watch RUclips everyday because I have creators that I love watching. I no longer watch large channels in the makeup community. I watch many project pan videos and try to use what I already have. There is still a place on RUclips and it hasn’t died yet.
I mostly only watch longer videos on RUclips and I deleted tik tok all together. The only time I find myself watching RUclips shorts is if I’m in the pickup line waiting for my kids school to let out or something like that.
Part of the reason I believe I end up watching less is because some creators keep reposting tags for one video and it is mucking up the ability yo see what is new. Also, shorts are rarely interesting to me and they too are making it difficult. You can change the settings but it always reverts back to ‘All’ when you reopen the app which is annoying. So ironically this newer practice of ‘hey did you see my video I posted just 4 hours ago’ is making me less likely to watch said video. Also, I really really wish that YTrs would STOP telling me they love me. The occasional moment is fine but every single video is not genuine and I find it devaluing that a person that usually doesn’t mean it based on their body language continues the practice.
I watch tons of RUclips but I’ve been a viewer for like…15 years?!! Lol. But love subscribed to soo many people over the years and I can only watch so much in a day! Subbing to so many people is starting to look like prioritizing who I’m watching when I have time. But RUclips is always my platform of choice
I watch TikTok for mindless laughs only. I will not watch TikTok or Insta for reviews or makeup content. I have a few people who I watch regularly. I use no drug store makeup but I enjoy your content because I find it soothing. I have a couple I watch for wonderful makeup ideas (even thought I will never do a colorful look). Michelle Wang is my go to for makeup products and skin care because we are the same age and have the same skin type and preferences.
I think there is space for all platforms. I consume specific content from each platform. Also RUclips has the advantage of the backlog of searchable content that's not readily available in other platforms. The one turn off I can think of today's RUclips is the excessive Ads in some videos. I do understand the necessity of them, but I think people stray away from videos because sometimes it feels like network tv ads. Overall I still really enjoy YT and will still watch my fave creators.
I personally have no desire to watch Tik Toc. I consume content only on RUclips. Maybe because I don’t have a tik account. Not sure. 🤷🏻♀️ I always seem to find content to watch on here that I enjoy.
I prefer RUclips. I found when I used to go on TikTok I would be on there for hours in a day and I don’t want that. I removed my TikTok app. Enjoying outdoors more then leave RUclips enjoyment for my downtime. ❤️
I definitely hope Tick Tok is not replacing RUclips. I watch videos from the Creators that I enjoy on RUclips instead of watching TV shows or movies. So I will never stop watching RUclips videos like this to watch Tick Tok instead. I very much enjoy your videos.
Do you think part of the decline in viewership could be a natural consequence of the end of Covid lockdowns and more people returning to work and whatever the new normal is? It seems like a lot of channels really either took off or had huge increases during that phase of the pandemic, and now that we’re more in the endemic phase, things have changed and people may have less time for things like RUclips. Just a thought that I’ve had…
I don't watch much television and I don't have tiktok RUclips was really my only quote and quote TV I watch. I've noticed the significant decrease in what people are posting or how often they're posting and I've had to compensate by listening to podcasts and other things to fill the void. Short-form content is not something that appeals to me at all
I just started school again so my viewership is down. However I don’t feel like my attention is split between RUclips and tiktok. It’s split between RUclips and Love Island
I don't want to watch a lot of youtube anymore because I don't see a lot of reviews for products I am interested in. For example, I want info on some cream finish lipsticks(a couple specific ones at the drugstore) and since everyone is still wearing matte lips, I don't see reviews for this non trendy formula. At least gloss is popular and I can find reviews on recent releases at least. I just want to detailed info on texture, color, and undertone for products in general and clear footage of swatches though that is not feasible for everyone. For specific brands like LA Colors and Hard Candy I don't see a lot of reviews, drugstore info tends to be lacking in general. Another issue is because shade ranges for things like bronzer is still awful, I am still in the consideration process of what I should buy.
If I like a creator, then I will watch most things that they put out, regardless of length. I also don’t really get the comments of people talking about how creators over the past two years just “push new makeup”. I’ve been watching RUclips for well over a decade, and that’s always been happening PLUS there’s a ton of creators who don’t do that. Most of the people that I really like and follow I have found organically through the home page.
I feel like my mindset in makeup consumption has changed. I gravitate towards beauty gurus who use the products they have, try to project pan and really curate their collections. I don’t need to be updated on every single new release in the makeup community.
What is happening on YT is so interesting to me. My personal subscription feed is ABSOLUTELY DEAD. Like omg there is no content to watch. It is so weird and I hate it lol. I have a job where I can watch a lot of content and I am just constantly running out of content even though I am subscribed to so many people. I really hope that creators come back. I am bored! Although I guess it is helping me consume more audiobooks in the meantime lol.
Tiktok gives me stress lol. I still prefer long form content with occasional short form like on ig. Love these chatty videos. I hope another brand deep dive is in the works?
I still watch RUclips. I watch both beauty and lifestyle on RUclips and I do watch tik tok but I don’t really watch beauty tik tok I mostly just watch cooking or comedy videos.
I would much rather watch a 15-30 min video on RUclips when it comes to make up. I dont enjoy watching them on tiktok really at all doesn't seem like u get a very good review of things, that I'm more watching a commercial. I miss all my normal RUclipsrs I like to watch, putting out videos on a consistent basis. I get frustrated when I'm in the mood to watch a bunch of makeup videos n ther isn't much posted. I love RUclips and I know its not going anywhere. But I will say, makeup youtube is definitely boring me currently. Makeup isnt about tutorials or creativity right now. For like 2 years its only been pushing products. We dont want products anymore. I really like your deep dives!
Couldn't agree more.
It cracks me up when cats watch tv. My sister had one once who liked to watch sports and would try to 'catch' the players running on the field.
It's so cute!!!
i enjoy your content because you’re one of the VERY FEW creators that make me feel like i have to run and spend allllll my money on the everything that releases every 5 minutes. your content actually has substance and i have so much respect for you and your channel. your style has changed so much, in a good way, since you moved to new york, and i’m so happy that you’re happy.
Yes! Every video is only reviewing new products or new product hauls. Barely any SMS vids. Sad.
Love your content Kelly! And appreciate that you are private about certain things in your life. Very respectable 💗
I don’t really watch tv much anymore- I prefer RUclips longer videos- I put it on as background when cleaning or crafting. Love your channel
Good point, Annie!
@@KellyGooch love your channel!
Bravo 4 the way u answered everyone's questions! Glad u keep it real!
Ahh! You mentioned my name and question! Thank you for answering and sharing your thoughts
Hi Kelly! Loved this getting to know you video! I just picked up Nude Truffle the other day, and it's so nice. I used it as a liner but then decided to just use it all over! So fun!
I love that your channel is makeup focused! 💕
I’ve been watching youtube, specially beauty content, for the last 12 years or so, and I don’t think any other platform could ever replace youtube for me. Even though I use and enjoy other ones too, youtube and the videos on here are something completely different for me and I definitely enjoy youtube the most. 🤗
Also, love that lip color on you! 😍
I agree completely about the shift in content. I find myself wanting to be a bit more innovative as I have been wanting to consume something "different" if that makes sense. Great topic!
I feel the same way about driving!! Gives me anxiety to drive and get carsick if someone else does. Ugh
@@kathchang Are you apart of Shave them to save?
Another fiber artist here! The fact is, however someone feels about using animal fiber, the breeds we have were domesticated thousands of years ago to keep us from freezing to death. They will die if they're not shorn! Unless we let them go extinct, we have a duty to take care of them, and not using their wool would be nonsensical.
@@gasparinha I fully agree with you and I signed up for Shave them to Save them to support the Shepherds which is also a challenge to see what you can make with said Fibers.
I am so happy for you that you are dating and seem to be happy about it ☺️ thank you so much for expanding my vocabulary, I love the way you express yourself and I am learning so many new words from you 😇
I love getting to know you more Kelly! This was so nice!
My kids and I all love youtube and we actually have certain channels we watch together ❤️
Can we please have a deep dive on Morphe. I absolutely love all your video but especially love the deep dives ❤️
It was nice getting a glimpse inside your New York life. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for answering my questions, Kelly! Loved watching this.
It was so nice to get to know you even better.
Loving the look you came up with!
I worked in the comm arts Sparty's around that time, probably saw you and didn't realize!
I loved watching this Q&A. It is always fun to learn a little more about the creators I watch. I hope you are doing well!
I really enjoyed your q&a. Your look is also very beautiful. Thank you for your video's!
I’m used to my accessibility needs being ignored but I wish we could acknowledge that not everyone is able to watch short form content in this discussion since the current online environment is just really exclusionary to people like me
Lovely video to watch with breakfast! I always enjoy your content, Kelly.
Loving your eye look today 😊
One question I would ask Kelly is how often cat hair sticks to her lip products😂 We got a medium haired one a few yrs ago and it's astronomical even with vacuuming every couple of days 🤭
Anyway, viewership MAY be down, but it comes in ebbs and flows.
Is the UofM gear the one with the Giant yellow M?!? I live in NYC and I see that everywhere!
Yes!!
But RUclips is always my platform of choice
gooooooood morning Kelly 💜
Good morning!
GO BLUE! 〽️
I prefer the longer style videos
I prefer RUclips. I found when I used to go on TikTok I would be on there for hours in a day and I don’t want that. I removed my TikTok app. Enjoying outdoors more then leave RUclips enjoyment for my downtime. ❤️
Have you seen/ met anyone famous there? And have you been to the cake boss Bakery !!! I so wanna go there one day!!
Go Blue!!!!
I definitely hope Tick Tok is not replacing RUclips. I watch videos from the Creators that I enjoy on RUclips instead of watching TV shows or movies. So I will never stop watching RUclips videos like this to watch Tick Tok instead. I very much enjoy your videos.
I will never replace my RUclips content with tictok
I find that the ads can put me off watching RUclips sometimes because I can't really watch a whole video without ads now when it isn't a short.
Have you been to the Boobie Trap bar in Brooklyn? It is a boob themed bar and it's hilarious.
I haven’t but now I want to!!
I don't watch much television and I don't have tiktok RUclips was really my only quote and quote TV I watch. I've noticed the significant decrease in what people are posting or how often they're posting and I've had to compensate by listening to podcasts and other things to fill the void. Short-form content is not something that appeals to me at all
What mascara are you using?
I liked it in the description box!! :)
Josh Becker changed my life minimalism I see stuff in a different light
What is happening on YT is so interesting to me. My personal subscription feed is ABSOLUTELY DEAD. Like omg there is no content to watch. It is so weird and I hate it lol. I have a job where I can watch a lot of content and I am just constantly running out of content even though I am subscribed to so many people.
I really hope that creators come back. I am bored! Although I guess it is helping me consume more audiobooks in the meantime lol.
I don’t use tik tok and never will
Go green?! Go blue!!
Tiktok gives me stress lol. I still prefer long form content with occasional short form like on ig. Love these chatty videos. I hope another brand deep dive is in the works?
I watch RUclips a lot every day. I watch TikTok only when I'm babysitting the grandkids & we watch funny animal videos.
Please don't ever stop making mostly make up videos, I get tired of hearing about putting away laundry and seeing an online grocery order. I watch for the makup!!!
💗💗💗
I like watching RUclips videos in the morning with my coffee and when I first get home from work to unwind. It’s like an escape. I just have no interest in TikTok.
crazzzy
TikTok is fun, but it doesn’t compare to watching good creators on RUclips!
I only watch you tube. I don’t use tik tok or IG I just don’t have time to watch them all . I use RUclips for everything so that is where I will stay ..
I don’t even have TikTok, I’m always going to prefer more long form content. I think RUclips is here for the long haul. Ebbs and flows maybe but it will always come back around.
