    Great idea to use a small scale models to shape your first board! One could probably do multiple boards at once to get even more experience this way. Good stuff, thank you!

    Lat's say after final fine sand of foam, you or someone drops a chisel right into the deck and makes a gouge/dent.. now what? Can you glue in a piece of same foam? I'm restoring an old surfboard and peeled off all the old resin/glass down to foam. but there are many dents and gouges in the foam from previous owners heels dug in and such. Because I don't want patches showing through new glass and resin, I would like to somehow fill dents with same foam..or maybe a foam dust mixed with epoxy if that would not show too much. I'm doing a teal tint so I'm hoping a almost seamless patch will not show too much!

      you used Expanded polystyrene (EPS), you need to use epoxy resin, your polyester resin melted it, thats for use on PU foam

    I started like you.
    But.
    Making the first board could be done with the right tools and techniques also.
    I've lost so many years trying to do things my way, and my way, like yours, are not the proper ways.
    It is not so expensive and hard to do it right the first time.

    i would think that foam would just become too soggy and break if you put it in the water

    • @krusher74
      @krusher74 8 лет назад

      that's why you encase it in fibreglass and resin. (some foams are also waterproof)

      Yeah its almost only made of foam and fiberglass coating but dont forget to make the roker out of wood! It helps strengthning the board and it is necessary só it doesnt brake easily!
