As a sSurfer Shaper Artist its interesting to say the least when I come across different shaping tutorials. I give you A for effort and like anything in life one only learns by doing.
So informative! Thank you for taking the time to do this.
I´ve enjoyed your website for years and have recently come across your video; thanks for sharing your knowledge; you are a truly awesome person!
Great idea to use a small scale models to shape your first board! One could probably do multiple boards at once to get even more experience this way. Good stuff, thank you!
Awesome! testing to shape a rail on crap pieces is genius! I feel i much closer to starting a build now! Tank you very much!
Steve, you are the man. Took all the voodoo out of the surfboard building process!

Thank you from the Philippines
Wish to see more like this ;)
thanks!!! your the best!!!!
Lat's say after final fine sand of foam, you or someone drops a chisel right into the deck and makes a gouge/dent.. now what? Can you glue in a piece of same foam? I'm restoring an old surfboard and peeled off all the old resin/glass down to foam. but there are many dents and gouges in the foam from previous owners heels dug in and such. Because I don't want patches showing through new glass and resin, I would like to somehow fill dents with same foam..or maybe a foam dust mixed with epoxy if that would not show too much. I'm doing a teal tint so I'm hoping a almost seamless patch will not show too much!
Thats so cool! you can make surfbords for the barbies!
Where can I get foam and is their anything specific I should look for
wow... making tiny surfboard looks fun
thanks!
where can i get the foam i have done this with a wood core but it was to heavy
what density EPS foam do you use?
where do you get the foam
what material do you put on that fabric? (from minute 12:00) ..?
Cool
Steve! I shaped a micro fish - wne tto glass it and bam! my foam melted. ( used packaging foam ) anyway good times were had shapping the micro fish.
you used Expanded polystyrene (EPS), you need to use epoxy resin, your polyester resin melted it, thats for use on PU foam
its true, i didnt know at the time. i did shape 2 boards though after, and it was pretty fun! made a giant mess of my garage.
would you sell the mini surfboard $30 ?
eu nao entendi
Thank you for the vids Steve!
... i read through your book and these compliment VERY well ....
I started like you.
But.
Making the first board could be done with the right tools and techniques also.
I've lost so many years trying to do things my way, and my way, like yours, are not the proper ways.
It is not so expensive and hard to do it right the first time.
i would think that foam would just become too soggy and break if you put it in the water
that's why you encase it in fibreglass and resin. (some foams are also waterproof)
i'm missing the stringer. anyway a good vid
thnx
awwwww those are cute
What is this a surfboard for ants?? It has to be at least... three times bigger than this!
Yeah
You’re fucking delusional
This is hilarious made me laugh, nice one, blue steel
Ocean Liners for ants
you da bomb
WAIT WAIT WAIT !!! YOU ONLY USE FOAM What? so it's like a foam with a protective cover is that basically what a surf board is it does explain why they are so Light hahaha ok thank
Yeah its almost only made of foam and fiberglass coating but dont forget to make the roker out of wood! It helps strengthning the board and it is necessary só it doesnt brake easily!
what kind of foam is that?
surfboards use 2 main foams Expanded polystyrene (EPS) and PU Polyurethane Foam
haha, really funny video, but wouldnt it be easier to show the way to shape a boar in normal size 1/1...?
2:43
He made a board for Barbie.
"Although these models might look comical." Not as comical as your floating head presentation technique.
