I almost forgot, I had rear sway bar on my 1800 and the suggested reinforcing failed-do yourself a favor and weld them in.

The badge is from Kungliga Automobil Klubben, the Royal Automobile Club of Sweden.
Somehow the protective dirt-layer does have to be stuck to the undercarriage. That is why cars before the crude-oil crisis have that automatic underbody distribution system for engine-, gearbox- and OD-oil You just discovered with Ivy ..... even more so with mostly unpainted, unprotected inside tin layers.
Oh, and with that almost shiny E30 nearby .... wait until that one reaches *_average_* VOLVO milage and then ask how many engines, how many gearboxes, clutches and diff gears it ate up on its way there .... I gotta feel patriotic for BMW with their Head Quarter less than 100 km away from my home, but I still drive old Mercedes, and old Alfas, and old Lancias, and even elder Citroëns .......
(Edit: The most BMW car I have is a LandRover ...)
Ivy just gets better & better, now that the interior is complete you can notice a difference, and the middle cover for the steering wheel,👍👍👍👍☝️☝️☝️

For the overdrive leak, You might try copper washers on the top two nuts. Those two studs don't go through the gaskets. They originally had plastic washers/seals on them.
Sometimes brand new oil seals won't seal because the sealing surface has been damaged (grooves, etc).
To fix this you can get a thing called a 'speedy sleeve'. You fit it over the damaged part, use the new oilseal and presto, no more leaks.
Look like that 242-V8 has Opel Manta-A rear light clusters, how weird.

For the power steering, I replaced both hoses. If you carefully cut off the crimp fittings with a dremel, then slice the hose longitudinally it will come off and you will have a pair of correct fittings. I then got some hydraulic hose of the right size, and to crimp them I used A/C crimp sleeves as I have a crimp tool. Hope this helps, I can send you pix if interested. One thing, completely unrelated was that I ruined the power steering pump by cranking the engine without fluid in the reservoir. It's now locked up solid.......
Ooh sorry to hear about that. The braided hose was changed thankfully. Under the crimp at the pump fitting is a barb that was clamped upon. The other line going to the box from reservoir could also use a replacement but it’s a MUCH smaller leak. When I got to Phoenix it was a puddle on that braided line. Thanks for sharing the tips!
@@DavidBello welcome. Just FYI I have a new front Passenger fender and windshield coming from VP. On the East Coast there are no old Volvos it seems like you get in California
Btw. Lambda sensor should not be installed vertical nor under the pipe. Moisture get's in and ruins it. This should be in instruction manuals. And yes it is difficult to install in correct direction in many old car.

Doing great work, David. Ivy is really coming along well. Love that interior colour, too. I've only seen a few 164s and every one had the blue leather. Funny enough, all I have seen were the dark blue enamel paint. All shined up, the 164 beats the BMW in looks and style. Beautiful cars.

Your grill badge is "Royal Automobile Club Sweden" However the "royal" is misspelled, it should be Kungliga not gliga.
I found this misspelled fake reproduction badge on Ebay and a few threads on the Volvo forums, there is a lot of letters missing, it is supposed to read "Kungliga Automobil Klubben" (wich originally is a close compound fault) so one B missing even before "en" is missing. Very funny.
On the 1978 242 ,was that a GT steering wheel like the one you got when you picked up the parts that time, I am surprised he didn*t do the whole GT theme.
