I’ve been collecting since I was 12 . I’m now 57 . Took over my dad’s collection since 12 years old . Couple of days ago my girlfriend sister text me and asked if I’m still collecting. Said yes . Also collect stamps . She dropped by and spread out her dads old collection and gave me a portion of the collection. Along with paper money 💵 and all the stamp collection in album books 📕 all in slides . I thanked her so much for letting me have part of her dads collection.🎉

I was a bit surprised when I had an appraiser value part of a coin collection I inherited. The surprise came when the appraiser told me my 1923 cent was worth more than my 1909VDB cent because it was in near uncirculated condition. The problem I have always encountered with coins is how hard it is to get collector's value for said coin. Every wheat penny has a value of at least 15 cents (copper content?), but try finding someone willing to pay that price for a penny. Cheers....

I just got into coin collecting, I found a pill bottle full of error coins from the 60s and 70s in excellent condition. I found them in a house I was working at where this old lady died and left all this stuff behind for us to find when my buddy bought the old house. I almost spent them in a soda machine but I got to looking and they are ALL error coins.. Im going to get them graded.. since then I have found a few other valuable coins in my pocket change. I already collect a bunch of other stuff, but I'm excited about this new coin collection I'm building.

    • @kimhoward4451

According to the Official Blue Book of U.S. Coins-79th edition 2021, an 1858 half dime(depending on condition) can be worth $10 to $500 dollars. If it has an 'Over Inverted Date', depending on condition, it can be worth $18 to $1,100. At least, that's what the book says. But in all honesty, it comes down to how valuable the collector/buyer feels that its worth. Just because you have a coin that's been declared worth a certain amount of money, that doesn't mean a collector is going to be willing to pay that amount for it. Just sayin. 🙃

It always kills me when someone in the comments will say, "I have that exact same coin!" A rare coin is just that, RARE! That means that there is very little chance of someone having the same coin. Each rare coin has very special qualities about it that make it rare and valuable. It's those fine little details that people need to pay special attention to. You may have a coin with the same date, maybe even mint mark, but I doubt if you possess a coin with these same valuable details that these RARE coins possess. Just sayin. 🙃

Generally speaking, in my professional experience with coins, I see a number of mint sets get broke apart and individually sold. So it is completely up to you whether you want to send in the mint set individually or as a whole to get graded. It will cost you more to get a set of five coins graded versus sending in one. I hope this helped you.

It looks like there’s far too many requests in his comments for him to be able to get back to everyone.. I’d recommend googling it, or even asking chat gpt how to get a fair and accurate doing appraisal on US coins while being located in India. Chat gpt CAN give false information unintentionally, but it’s a terrific starting point on obtaining new info. Just make sure to fact check on google or something afterwards. But I bet there’s probably places even where you live that can evaluate your coins worth, but definitely do as much research as you can on your own first since retailers do sometimes say your coins aren’t worth anything so u sell for cheap and they make more money off of it.

Not all copper coins start as red. It depends on the location where the copper was mined. Also the 83 cent was copper not the new zinc that was introduced in 83. You alluded to that but didn't finish your thought.

They started the changeover from copper to zinc in 83, correct? And that was when a few were mistakingly made with the older product instead of the new? Did they still contain the alloy mixture of nickel (I think that's what it was), or a different combination of some sort? They're now zinc-coated, right? They weren't copper-coated before, were they? I'm sorry, I just wondered if that also had something to do with the difference in their color (besides being mined from different locations). I'm awfully nosy, aren't I? I mean, damn, that is a LOT of questions in just one comment. Lol 😆 I guess it's not really a comment then, is it? 😂 LOL 😆

If I could bother you for a couple of ? & Answers. I came across a 1980 dime in a car I was scraping about 10 years ago that looks off .I put it in my safe with other coins I have ,not knowing what to do . I keep watching youtube seeing these coin channels like yours, and here we are . Well make it short the president has something on his nose and forehead , and on the reverse it is touching the U in United and the O in One and the first branch also covers up the letters before the branch . I would really like to send you a pic and get your respective thoughts on my dime ,and what I can do.
