    I was born in 1945 and have seen every heavyweight champ since Rocky and I can say this ,Iron Mike Tyson was the greatest heavyweight champ of the 20th century ,not because he had the most successful title defenses but because he honestly struck fear into the hearts of his oponents ,which translated into Mikes fights being the most exciting to watch , compare an Ali Fight to a Tyson fight and put yourself in the shoes of both Champs oponents , no man struck sheer terror in the hearts of quality prize fighters than Iron Mike ,period !

    • @francishegarty8087
      @francishegarty8087 4 года назад +8

      No disrespect to your comments mate but comparing Mike Tyson and his list of opponents to Ali's is downright wrong and quite frankly very disrespectful to the the Greatest Heavyweight that ever lived. Ali fought the best there was around from the early 60s until the late 70s and arguably lost his best 3 of those years due to the ban, guys like Chuvalo, Lyle, Norton, Shavers, Frazier, Liston and Foreman etc, would have ripped the heads off the past their best and not even very good opponents like an ageing Berbick, Holmes and Spinks, these guys were shitting themselves even before the bell sounded V Tyson. Do you honestly think any of them guys would have been like that against your Berbicks etc or even Tyson himself? Buster Douglas proved that Tyson was very beatable when he eliminated the fear factor, started hitting him and hitting him hard, jabbed the head off him, had the guts to get up off the canvas and beat him, convincingly and gave him a boxing lesson for good measure. All of Ali's opponents would have hit him as hard as Douglas at the very least and in the case of Foreman, he'd of killed him. The way I look at the Tyson situation is the Questions that remain as to who he fought and didn't fight, I'd love to know why he didn't fight Riddick Bowe or or a 44 year old George Foreman? I'm a big boxing fan and have had the privilege of seen Tyson fighting in the UK and like the guy but there is no comparison to his ability or his opponents abilities compared to Ali's, it's not even close.

    • @davemal15
      @davemal15 4 года назад +1

      Michael Ledford...i presume I do not watch many fights...because that is the most absurd opinion I have ever heard. Great fighters are never fearful , skill allows for that. If you have no skill and no answers and no expectation of winning you will be fearful. That’s all he fought in his prime..
      Trust me Evander was not afraid, Mike Tyson is a classic bully stand up to him and he cowers in the corner. He is the most overrated athlete in the history of American Sport. Any sport in any era. He ducked all the quality fighters of his generation. Every single one of them. Every single one that he eventually fought he lost, he not only lost but the fights were not any good because he was non competitive.

    • @davemal15
      @davemal15 4 года назад +1

      anonymous anonymous total none sense...he fought bums...he beat no one who beat someone of significance ... he was coddled as a young fighter...Ali in his prime would have destroyed him... so would Foreman, Frazier you name it...there is no getting around this fact..When Ali fought Foreman he was 32, it was the quessential masterpiece performance of his career. Tyson was 30 when he fought Holyfield and. Got his head handed to him. Also let’s. Or forget he ducked Foreman also who was in his 40s and Tyson would not fight him. The list goes on and on he ducked every fighter of his generation. Every single one he fought he lost. He is the biggest fraud in American sport history.

      English Hooligan hey man no need for all the negativity. just enjoy the vid and if someone isnt 100% accurate on a comment, just educate them if you are in a position to do so. They did go to school together for a short time and both knew who each other was. I can't speak on how well they knew each other or if they were friends but to say they didnt know each other at school and Tyson doesnt know what he is saying, is a bit inaccurate. All he said was they went to the same school together and he has a lot of respect for him, so he doesn't think he could fight him. You also have to take into account that Mike is speaking from prison. He was probably extremely depressed because of his circumstances, and beating the soul out of a guy he knows and respects was the last thing on his mind. Mike is the kind of guy that strives to be a great person, but struggles with his inner demons(like a lot of us). I'm sure there was a time when he would have answered this question very differently. - respect

I grew up in the sport, trained, alongside of them, and at 17 years of age while I was still amateur, I was one of Riddicks sparring partners when he won the championship from Holyfield. My Last name is Judah. I have 9 brothers, I'm the oldest and growing up back then people use to call us the fighting Judah brothers. My youngest sibling, is Zab Judah, 6x welterweight champion. Eddie Futch said after he became undisputed champ, that Bowe could become greatest ever...then he realized how bad his work ethics were...after every fight during break from training, dude would get like 50 pounds of fat..he called him fat farm...and everytime they started camp after the break, Futch needed spend weeks just to teach him basics of boxing all over again...so he was nightmare to work with.

      Tyson at his best couldn't even kill Bonecrusher smith, Tony Tucker, Mitch Green, Jose Ribalta or James Tillis, they all went the distance with Tyson in the 80's in fact Tillis nearly beat Tyson in 86 winning 4 out of 10 rounds against a peak Tyson and Tillis was a bum with 40 wins 22 losses. Lewis would've played with Tyson just like he did in 2002

    • @yahoo1o1
      @yahoo1o1 8 лет назад +51

      Tyson clearly beat those guys. The only debatable win was Tillis. Mitch Green & Jose Ribalta got destroyed, not even close. I've seen the best fighters go the distance and people say great performance but when Tyson doesn't win via KO all of a sudden they hold it against him. Boxing is not about killing people as you said, it's about out boxing them. Makes me question how much 1 knows about boxing.
      As for Lewis. I dunno if a prime Tyson beats Lewis but it would have been an awesome fight, nothing like the 1 sided affair in 2002.

    I can respect that Mike Tyson did not wish to fight Riddick Bowe in the ring if he was a friend, but then again this is a professional sport and in such cases you will go up against your friends in competition to battle for the top and Tyson wanted to be the best.
    Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, George Foreman, Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall etc was his era's rivals and only fought Holyfield and lost twice and Lewis not until both men was at the end of there respective careers mostly for the big pay-check.
    Tyson wanted easy matches where he could easily KO his opponents while Lewis & Holyfield had the champion mentality of wanting to fight the best opponents there was. Lewis proved to be THE best of the era. Tyson thought Holyfield was down-spiring and ready to take for big $cash but his plan was foiled when Holyfield proved toi have his number by countering Tyson at evrey turn. Tyson had no back-up plan and was out-boxed and stoped in 11th round and then repeated process until DQ in the rematch. Holyfield is both a boxer and an inside-slugger and Tyson only a slugger.
    Foreman was an opponent Tyson wanted no part of what-so-ever because Tyson knew Foreman likley had hus number and Foreman had ever since he made his comeback trained himself for a showdown with Tyson. It was so close to happen in 1990-1991 when HBO and Don King pushed for one of the biggest cash fights ever, but Tyson stormed out of it all yelling quoute:
    "I'm not fighting that f@#!g animal, you want it so bad you fight him".
    In 1995 Foreman this time the champion offered Tyson a title fight with big money involved but Tyson declined again, instead fought Peter McNeely and Buster Mathis Jr after his release. Same in 1996-1997, but Tyson had no Foreman in his sight so the old champ gave up.
    Heck a 49 year old George Foreman was prepeared to fight prime Lennox Lewis in 1998 if he had not been screwed in the Shannon Briggs fight, and Foreman had a lot of respect for Lewis even back in early 90's because he knew the guy would become a dangerous big man in the game. Tyson dropped the WBC title to avoid Lewis in 1996 despite Lewis had been the mandatory since 1995 (!).

      man where have you caught your BS from or are you on drugs or something
      Tyson always wanted the best competition out there that's why he fought the best contenders available in the 1st place
      holyfield didn't fight the best he fought bums like foreman who was 42 years old instead of fighting the dangerous Razor Ruddock who was the no.1 contender at the time
      and holyfield cheated to win in 96, holyfield is a proven PEDs abusing cheater and a shame to boxing, he doesn't count
      he's a disgrace to the sport, Tyson did deserved justice in the rematch as you can't beat cheaters it's that simple
      holyfield deserved what he got
      Tyson never wanted foreman ? that's complete BS too foreman was a nothing but a bum pusher in the 80s he didn't fight his 1st top 10 opponent until 1990 in the undercard of Tyson vs stewart
      if foreman really wanted to fight Tyson then what did he do to deserve a title shot ? nothing
      calling out means nothing if you dont fight to deserve the opportunity, I can turn pro and call out Tyson Fury to fight me for the championship it doesn't mean that Fury has to fight me does it ? he would say I am irrelevant, same way foreman was irrelevant to Tyson he wasn't even top 10 when Tyson was running through the HW division.
      Tyson post prison was a shot fighter and he knew that maybe that's why he didn't want to fight bowe but pre prison I am damn sure he would have fought bowe because pre prison Tyson was better than holyfield and lewis
      also Tyson gave up the WBC belt just because it was a showtime/hbo thing it was clarified by lewis's trainer and he said Tyson didn't duck no one

      @@theinformationbomber7102 - Tyson had a list when he got out of his served prison term with opponents he did not want to fight. Bowe, McCall & Mercer.
      Foreman when HE WAS THE CHAMP offered Tyson twice the oppertunity to fight him, but Tyson declined. All in 1990, 1995, & 1996. And again, Tyson was non champion at those stages. And even in 1989 or 1990 when he still was, he never gave Foreman a shot. Instead fought Carl Williams and Douglas - and Douglas took him out.
      Tyson did not want to face Lennox Lewis at no point. Not in 1996, not in 1997, not in 1999, not in 2000 and not in 2001. Lewis's camp repetedly did all they could to get that fight and not until late 2001 Tyson finaly accepted the fight ONLY because of the money. He still feared he would lose.
      Savarese, Golota, Fransis, Nielsen was all but non impressive line of easy KO opponents. No David Tua, no Hasim Rahman, No John Ruiz, Chris Byrd, Klitschkos, etc that was all avaible opponents.
      Oh-oh Holyfield on steriods? Yopu mean like Tyson also used muscle helping steriods? The ones he admited himself he took in the middle 90's (!). Tyson was no better then Holyfield - And Holyfield have either admited to be so or proven. Tyson at least admited so much.
      Tyson avoided Holyfield for years. Heck in 1988 they should have fought when Holyfield became amndatory by WBA. Anb y 1990 he was 1# by all three. Tyson and King feared Holyfield because Holyfield was always confident to fight Tyson, and not in a bragging way but genuine belief they feared. And when Holyfield was the champ, Tyson ducked out with claimed injury TWICE despite he provided no medical exams to Holyfield's team or the promotors.
      And yeah, Foreman at 42 gave Holyfield a tougher challange then a 30 Tyson could give him in 2 fights. Holyfield was several times rocked and hurt by Foreman - something by his own words are the hardest punches he ever took. Tyson is not even a top 3 on his list of hardest punches he took because Holyfield countered his best shots 9/10 times because Tyson only went for head hunting.
      Pre prison Tyson was faster and after prison but still he had lost his schooling. He lost that after 1988 when he fired Rooney. Tyson could never find his way back to his bob-and-weaving and hit the body. That was seen even when he fought Bruno for the 1st time and had also started to take more hits as result. Ruddock was tough allright.
      Yet Lewis needed only 2 rounds to take him out while Tyson needed all rounds in 2 fights.
      Tyson was great, but never near anything greatest. Both Lennox Lewis & Evander Holyfield accomplished more and won more, so with Foreman.

      and Tyson never ducked holyfield either
      holyfield became no.1 ranked after beating dokes and that was AFTER Tyson had beaten Carl Williams who was no.1 ranked by the IBF and this was in 1989

BUT-BUT again, Foreman wanted to fight Mike Tyson next in 1995, not Tony Tucker. He tried to win time for his time of release. In his book, Foreman said that there was no interest from the boxing fans to see Tucker fight Foreman, even if Foreman could have defeated now an slower and older Tucker. Still Tucker was no push-over who still had a great jab and fine straight shots. If Tucker had been like he was in 1987-1992, then he could have been a problem with 1987 version to fast for Foreman.
      "why should Tyson give foreman a shot when foreman wasn't even in the top 10 seriously how stupid can you get ?" quote.
      Yeah throwing insults makes you look only lacking any respect. Any way, the simple answer would be MONEY !!!!
      Foreman was more worth then most boxers in 1989-1990 and in 1991 after Holyfield he was worth more. Tubbs, Williams, Douglas etc non of them was worth more then he was regardless of rank. Yeah Holyfield knew that as even Ruddock was also not worth enough.
      Foreman went more fight between 1987-1990 then Tyson did. At 38+ that is something Tyson could not by thousand miles come close to as he was shot at same age. What Foreman did have never been replicated in modern heavyweight boxing.
      No, Holyfield became 1# by WBA already in 1988 and in 1989 also 1# by WBC & IBF.
      How you can class Lewis, Holyfield, Foreman and etc as "bums" is just enough.
      You are either just a troll or you are so hard Tyson nutt-hugger that you refuse to see or accept Tyson was never that great. He was an exciting boxier who draw easy attention and people wanted to see him fight, but that is not always the same as being the best.
      Tyson freakin bite a piece of Holyfields ear and also tried head-butts, so he was just as bad. You call that acceptble is just the final nail to the coffin of this debate.

    The *Tyson vs Lewis* debate summed up once and for all:
    (Years are approximate.)
    Tyson started his pro career in 1985 I believe.
    Lewis won gold at the Olympics in 1988.
    So, if a fight occurs between Tyson and Lewis around 1987, Tyson would win that fight... but only because Lewis wasn't even a pro boxer yet! It's like saying I could out-drive Danica Patrick back in 1995...... before she was old enough to have a driver's licence and hadn't driven a car yet. Lewis was a clumsy, awkward boxer in the early days of his pro career (circa 1990) that got better as time went on.
    The first opportunity that the two could have met in the professional ranks was around late 1991 or early 1992. By that time, Tyson was champ and Lewis was in the top 10 rankings. Tyson would lose to Douglas and then fight a few times before going to jail on the rape conviction. He could have fought Lewis around the time he fought Ruddock. Lewis may have had one of the titles by then.
    In any event, it never happens. Tyson goes to jail, comes out, and now the top boxers in the division are:
    1. Lewis
    2. Bowe
    3. Holyfield
    (in that order)
    There was an opportunity to fight Lewis in 1996 but Tyson avoided him. Tyson would fight Holyfield instead (and lose twice).
    During his second comeback (after the bite suspension), he could have fought Lewis in 1999/2000 but chose not to.
    If a fight between Lewis and Tyson happens anytime after 1992 when Lewis was an experienced pro boxer, Lewis wins. Period.
    They eventually fought in 2002/2003 and Lewis knocked Tyson out.

    I’m a big Tyson fan BUT… he never fought Bowe or Forman or Moorer . I think yes he would have beat Foreman , Moorer but I truly think he knew something about Bowe that he was concerned about and he was afraid deep down to loose to him.

    • @garethharrison5797

      I think someone needs to look carefully at the timeline. Riddick Bowe was, in hindsight, as good as finished when Tyson was released from prison, although he was still winning in 1995. However, he was completely done by 1996. Tyson's comeback fight was in August, 1995. The window for them to fight was very small. Besides, Bowe isn't exactly known for taking on a murders' row. He was very carefully managed and only really fought Holyfield, who essentially ruined him over the course of their trilogy. It seems a little rich to blame Tyson when he spent years in prison and essentially fought the vast majority of the top guys across two eras.

    People never know the story about Tyson and Bowe. Tysons most fear was bowe because he was from the same street and lived the life tyson himself. He was an Tyson 2 with more height and advantage.

    It's funny because down the line, after his broken back fight, tyson says that boxers should fight out of respect for one another. To elevate their lifestyles.

    If they grew up together and know each other that well, between them they know who would win already. I think it’s Bowe, and Bowe always says he could whoop Tyson.

    If Tyson and Lewis fought in their prime that would of been a classic. You can debate on who would win (personally I believe Lennox would've won either by Decision or a very late TKO probably in 12th round ) but it would have been a much better fight than the one in 2002.
