    It cannot be easy trying to strike the sweet spot between discouraging run and gun combat while still making you feel like a trained soldier. I get a lot of the criticism from both sides, I want suppression to be essential for controlling firefights but I also dont want to have noodle arms if I dare to sprint for 5 seconds. Here's to hoping that OWI sticks to their guns and that the community continues to give *detailed feedback* through all of the tests

    • @aaronwhite1786
      @aaronwhite1786 Год назад +82

      I feel like if they keep tweaking the aiming to be a bit less "How do I use a gun again!?", but keep the heavy suppression and maybe increase how being suppressed effects your ability to aim and fire back, they'll hit a nice sweet spot.
      One of my biggest annoyances in Squad was that it was so easy for people to just behave in ways that no one would in real life. They could be under fire from a tank and MG's and just calmly pop up on a rocket and shoot the MG, then walk away.
      You kind of have to force the threat of dying on people when you're in a game where it's just an easy respawn. I compare it to my time playing Tarkov, where the risk of losing all of my stuff I'd spend money on and collected across the map made me so much more cautious than I would otherwise have been if I was able to just go "Eh, whatever, I'll just respawn".

    • @HawooAwoo

      I'm overall supportive of the idea of these changes, but it is discouraging when a lot of the discussion is drowned out by people whose arguments don't develop past "old Squad is a Cod clone" and "Squad needs to be just like PR."
      I'm worried that a breakdown in communication will result in the argument for this update being defined by PR-only people who hate Squad and obviously don't play it, while the voice against the update are the majority of people who actually play Squad silently voicing their frustrations in the feedback survey. And this could kill the update.
      I want this update to be a good thing for Squad because of I love Squad. But for it to succeed it needs to be defined by actual Squad players, not these PR outsiders who are trying to hijack the conversation.

It reminds me of 2011 when I was a kid and tried to make arguments online about CoD vs Battlefield 3 back when that was an actual competition. It's incredibly reductive and childish and we would be better off if every single person who used it as an actual argument was completely tuned out.

    I personally would like to see hardcore damage model return. By that I mean headshots, .50 cal and up, or explosives that are very close and/or large will instantly kill you, not incapacitate. This is modeled in SquadOpsHC which was in the regular servers for a time and I really liked it. However it likely would not be conducive to the idea of dragging out fights and would tilt the balance further in favor of vehicles, so I don’t see it being implemented in the base game. Still, it would be cool to pair the infantry overhaul with the hardcore damage model.

  • @buff34x
    @buff34x Год назад +9

    When it comes to pip scopes in games I think it's important to scale the time it takes to get sight picture as well as field of view. Red dots and Holographics are clearly the fastest but in my experience the 4x ACOG is on par with irons for getting a sight picture if not slightly faster for mid-range engagements, and LPVOs tend to be the slowest. The issue with iron speed is that its good enough for 0-50 meter engagements but takes some extra time to get them on target and centered enough for 100-300 meter shots. The wiggle it does as you a.d.s. seems to be enough to get that effect though. Prism optics like ACOGs have a larger front lens than the rear which results in a wider eye box and shorter eye relief but allow for a faster sight picture and actually have a field of view wider than the rear lens. Elcans achieve their wider field of view with just having massive front and rear lenses which allows for a longer eye relief than the ACOG but weigh more. The wide eyer box is the key factor in giving them a faster sight picture and the wider field of view is key for better situational awareness and target acquisition than their LPVO counterparts at the same zoom level until about 400-500 meters when the increased zoom capability outpaces the Prisms. Obviously LPVOs have a great degree of difference in those stats between models but overall they all tend to be slower to get on target when at the same zoom level as prisms. Their benefit is they are usually faster to get a sight picture when on 1x in a cqb environment as well as giving increased, albeit tighter magnification for longer range engagements. I'm tired of prisms being nerfed LPVOs in tactical and milsim fps games instead of getting their place as mid range champs that can flex down to 50ish meters and be pushed out beyond 500 meters if need be.

    1:53 This is always a problem I see in "realistic" shooters. Your character, who is a trained soldier/operator person, can't control their recoil, take forever to reload like they're not familiar with their weapon, swaps weapons slowly like they're not in a rush, and they cant aim straight when walking slowly. They're mechanics needed to make sure players don't play like it's CoD but they ruin the immersion of playing as a trained soldier imo. Some tuning based on player feedback will be needed.

    Don't know if it's new, but that moment around 0:48 where you started firing from the port arms and the game so accurately modeled rounds leaving the GUN and not some point from the center of your character that you can SEE THE TRAIL of full auto fire AS the gun COMES UP? That's incredible fidelity.

      I don't play squad but to me it seems everybody is a basic infantryman in the game, so they are wearing a full combat load, flak jacket with sapi plates, kevlar helmet, and whatever else maybe a pack with a radio...that shit is not light. And it's not sexy AT ALL...and tbh the high speed low drag operators a lot of times have it the same it's not like some of these movies depending on what they are doing, maybe slight differences...maybe a little lighter but not really, if they get ambushed or in a long firefight, they are going through the exact some sht a basic infantryman goes through . So looking at this gameplay above, I think they've about nailed it...because that's how it really is to do that. You don't always get the best cheek weld, or quick sight picture, you are incombered by your own gear and it does get very cumbersome after a while, you feel like a turtle with all that sht on. Sprinting definitely does fvck your aim up with all that sht on. You sweat more with the helmet on and it gets into your eyes, if you are dirty and wipe the sweat now you have sweaty dirt in your face....your helmet can get pushed forward in the prone which can fvck with your ability to get a clean sight picture quickly etc...I could go on, I HATED the flak jackets we had to wear in Iraq. Some of these guys, I get where they are coming from as they are training with guns on a range...as a civilian, with their high speed low drag plate carriers...light weight specialized helmets..couple magazines etc, maybe doing a little hunting etc...that sht doesn't compare to Infantry training or real combat, it's the truth, but that is their experience. I did a bounding range in Yuma AZ, maybe 2 football fields long and slightly uphill, full combat load, movement to contact drills with bounding. The first couple times running that range we were fast and sharp. By like the 3rd time of having to do that sht...most of us were gassed, and legit just doing what we could to shoot at the targets and be safe...so there was a drop off after a couple times running it. Based on the gameplay I'm seeing above, it looked pretty damn accurate to me as far as basic infantry firefights.

    It's a big improvement to the gameplay, but it feels a bit too much on the gunplay. I'm pretty sure they can walk this in though and end up somewhere comfortable for all the core player-base.
    Ultimately for me personally, I'd prefer a fun "authentic" experience than a realistic one and whilst some of the effects feel a bit overkill it does lend to that feeling of vulnerability.
    I think they'd do well to add some depth to the stamina system with the regen rate being degraded the longer you are depleted, hopefully it would bring IFVs into the fight - at the moment it's usually better to run ~750m to an engagement than wait for a ride.

IRL controlling these rounds is quite easy, but also, even a cursory look at how many rounds are fired vs how many hit show that even with these mechanics tuned all the way up it’s still easier to hit things than IRL. But I like the suppression. Vehicles should be able to make areas feel dangerous to players when hosing it down with HMG, because in real life, no one is going to be running out in front of a tank, especially when they're seeing it just spraying the area they're going to go with MG fire.
    But the sway in aiming when you're not being suppressed does seem to be on the excessive side. But I like that the suppression mechanics force your hand a bit in the way people react to being shot at. One of the most annoying things in Squad before was using something like an MG and firing at guys to suppress them, only for them to effortlessly pop up under fire, shoot you and then go on their way.

    man, the overhaul looks alot more ''cinematic'' but i can see it feeling very frustrating to players

      It's only frustrating if you play it like Call of Duty. If you play in a squad where everyone is willing to coordinate, it's actually better than normal Squad.

    my only problem with squad is I can never get into a server. The lower ping servers closest to me are always full with a long queue or empty and on top of that if you make it through the queue half the time you get kicked or "disconnected by Host" simply for trying to play the game. Pretty much kills the game for me here on the east coast.

    Squad devs if you see this, do not let up. You are currently in the process of changing fps games for the rest of near history.
    No other game has taken this big of a leap to completely change the mechanics of fps games.

    I've wanted a topographic map for Squad for so long, I would love to see it finally implemented.

    Realism guys don't want to hear it but realism is bad for gaming. Is a singular armored vehicle holding down a platoon that doesn't have effective AT realistic? Yea! But it's stupid in the context of a game. I think the changes to small arms are good for gameplay, but they probably shouldn't have fiddled with HAT like they did.

      Finally a good take on this. The first playtest was too much. The second one has been really nice as you still feel like you can fight back a little. I'm sure they will meet somewhere in the middle of the two, but I would just like to be able to semi effectively fight back in a gunfight instead of just shooting bushes all game.
      When it comes to games, hyperrealism is not fun to play. There is no way for owi to code adrenaline and stress, along with fear so gameplay will suffer if those things are attempted too heavily

      It depends on the type of game really, a squad being pinned down by an armored vehicle just gives another squad or vehicle crew the opportunity to have their hero moment. They get to take out the armored vehicle, and let their teammates move freely which could win them the match. However for something more like Battlefield, that would be pretty silly to have a quarter of the team pinned down because there is nothing they can use to take out the armor.
