    70yr old guy here getting back into golf since my 40's. I've struggling with my old man swing. I've been watching many of your vids and this one turned on my lightbulb. I no longer feel I've lost my swing bur rather found a better proper swing. For me it was just a couple subtle moves or feels that I got from this vid that pulled it back together. Tried it on a course and I damn near cried as I was about to give the game up. Cant thank ya enough.

    Nice. I'm a slider + caster. Always have been. Holding at a 10 index but can't break below that. Determined to fix this and I like what I'm hearing on your site so far: it's jiving with my own recent discoveries, none of which is about positions and 'cheap tricks'. Just basics.
    Prior to landing here on this and another video of yours I've seen progress by feeling (just a feel) like I stay centered over a spot (club-dependent) going back and all the way through the ball. Seems to cause the body to do 'good things'. Or at least better things. Took a couple of weeks to get used to it but again the brain is adjusting fairly well.
    When your source of power changes from, in my case, essentially, using the arms while moving the body at the target to something more, I guess, torque related, it's tuff to dig a new groove in the brain - needle keeps wanting to jump back into the old, very worn, and deep groove.
    I've always wondered about my natural habit of getting the club too far behind me/wrapped around me - but couldn't find a fix: your concept of keeping the left 'facia' loose to the top is a new one and makes sense. And it seems to work. It all crumbles if I move off the ball but...
    Another video of yours you use the 'calm' word; this confirmed a recent ah-ha moment too - by having a calm feeling up to and _into_ transition I'm not 'blowing through' transition. Less what I call "kindergarten golf": lot of pushing/pulling and shoving.
    Using this loose facia [left side] feel I'm seeing clubhead speeds, impact positions, and trajectories I've never seen before. Video bares this out.
    As as a no-talent, senior citizen I believe I can, now, break that 10-Index barrier (I have a decent short game):
    - Up to a month or so ago, given a 150 yard shot, my 7-iron would start talking to me "...hit me, hit me - you know you can't get there with less...". Now it's the 8 and on the range, if I "stay centered", "calm", and loosen up that left 'facia' going back it's a 9-iron. Just not confident yet to try it in the wild.
    As another commenter mentioned: telling me what to feel and what my intention(s) should be is more helpful.

  • @johanaberg621
    @johanaberg621 Год назад +3

    This is awesome! A nice side effect of this kind of backswing is that you can stop worrying about the plane. It takes care of itself. I found it helpful to start some practice swings by moving the club head to the left (as a right handed player) to get the pendulum going.
    A word of caution though: it can be very tempting to kick-start the hit phase earlier and earlier (as the club floats up), rather than letting it floatingly drop a bit before hitting. This creates great consistency and power but puts a terrible shock-like strain on the back part of the left shoulder muscles (teres major, etc). Injury prone. Let the club float before hitting to avoid injuries.
    Thanks guys, great video!

    Riley, I think you’ve cracked the code with input from Milo, Luke, and others. Well done! Love the gradual loading (stretching) phase idea in preparation for an efficient and explosive unloading (shortening) phase starting at p5. A couple technical questions: doesn’t the lead upper spiral shorten to p5 (to bring the lead side ribs closer together and spread the trail side ribs farther apart) during lead side t-spine bending, and which in turn stretches the trail side upper spiral in the loading phase? If so, isn’t it the stretched trail side upper spiral that shortens to facilitate trail side t-spine bending after p5 (to bring the trail side ribs closer and lead side ribs farther apart) during the unloading phase? Regardless, excellent presentation!

    This resonated with me quite a bit! 👍🏻 Video suggestion- would like to hear how you guys perceive and feel what’s going on in that long transition from p2-p5. I have gone through phases where I’m getting much more distance from exactly the feels in this video but, due to the passive float, it’s hard to feel anything, because when it works it’s almost like you fee nothing at all. So I’was wondering what cues you feel during the long transition even if they’re awareness rather than something you’re consciously doing. In a nutshell- I’ll hit it like a boss for a week doing this but then the same feeling turns into shank city. It could be a bit like what happened to you in the video but I can’t recover like you can. So what you perceive during that transition would be interesting to know.

      @@elitegolfschools Yes, this. FWIW, it has helped me (see my other, somewhat verbose, post) to just _not_ move off the ball from the takeaway all the way through the transition. Why this is helping I can only speculate: It forces me to be 'calm' through to ~P5 because if I don't then, I guess, my brain reacts [poorly]. The hips start to slide; then the arms go [early]; etc. Ick.

      Term Rib sway worked instantly for me whilst terms rotate and turn cause me problems,maybe its all in the mind.
      Most pros probably sway but its not obvious,why, cos 95% of Ams position their head forward in the stance as they are looking at the top of the ball with the right eye so they dont miss it!
      Most Tour pros ive seen on tv,maybe all,set up with their left eye level or behind the ball, so if the Ams sway the head will move a lot to get to a similar position as the pros whose head will hardly move so you dont notice a sway!
      Dont know if Elite would agree with this sway theory! but i do know that rib sway/loading the spiral line and flinging the arms instantly transformed my ball striking,shot 2 over in last comp,nearly 5 birdies on spin and im 63 yo! so keep going with these guys

By the way: since you are using the spiral line (fascia stretch) for backswing as well now you have turned the body into a spring system in a mechanical sense. This implies an ideal (eigen) frequency and that also implies, that the ground force in the downswing needs to be three times the groundforce in the backswing - that‘s just math. So if you want to hit it further energize the backswing more.

    It doesn’t seem like your system has much depth in the backswing because if it did there is a much better chance of loading to early. Is this correct? Some coaches want hand in line with ankles at top so it seems to be a little conflicting with this approach?

    • @elitegolfschools
      @elitegolfschools  Год назад

      Depth is created by a big stretch in the upper spiral line - we like depth, just want it to be created that way, instead of artificially through the lead arm stretching across 👍🏼

    Love the concept ......... As a Senior the common mindset is to go to lower shaft weights. Seems to me that this is less of an issue since you are counting on gravity and ground force more. Comment ?????

    Question: Are you saying that the pause at the top drill is not a good drill to use? I practiced this with my coach and it taught me a lot about the transition of my swing. At first, I was shanking, thinning and hitting everything fat but now can pure it off the mat.
    And Tiger said he would spend hundreds of hours doing this for months at a time. Just curious if I should not do this drill anymore?

    • @elitegolfschools
      @elitegolfschools  Год назад +1

      I think for many people the pause drill helps them accomplish exactly what we talk about in this video (swing, slow, stop to top of backswing). It definitely has utility for certain players at certain stages of their pattern improvement 🙏

      Actually, I went to the range and focused did this drill but focused on what you were saying in the video. I made an effort not to feel that pressure at the top of my backswing but to keep the arm loose. Then the feeling of having the arms fall during transition and firing. Love the content!

  • @chrisharbert8333
    @chrisharbert8333 Год назад +1

    it’s like a child swing. you let the swing come to a complete stop before adding any down swing pressure. do it too early and the swing loses all tension. a faster backswing will create a more complete or mature backswing.
