I only learned the term “afrofuturism” earlier this year and I think the reason popular culture took so long to realise the stories that depict such a vision is because our economics have a pro-status quo bias - which in turn translates to maintaining a racist (and patriarchal) bias.
We're not African Americans we're not from Africa that's just more lies. We're Hebrew the real Jews. We got ran back in to Africa and taking into slavery and Africans sold us to people all over the world.

I love that Mahershala was there to piggyback off Chadwick’s comments about Black Americans and identity. I love when we, collectively-with everyone at the table, start to dig into race, ethnicity, nationality, and cultural identities.

Agree with you fully my man, but I feel like it is to be mentioned that other actors also have to work hard to be where they are today. Whether or is harder for black people cannot be generalized. It may be harder for some bit easier for others. Having said that most African American actors do say that the struggle for them is substantially more.
I think the MCU as a studio did the right thing... they stepped back and let black people tell a black story from a black perspective. Even in promoting the show, Kevin Feige stayed in the background and let the writers, director and actors shine. Black Panther was good for the studio, but it was also good for all the people associated with it on a human level. I like the message that they are continuing to relate and take to their other projects. I like how they work together and are creating opportunities for themselves and for others.

I was first introduced to Chadwick from this roundtable. I’d never seen MCU films but his dignity & grace struck me forcefully. Haunting to come back & watch, knowing it was already 2-3 years after his cancer diagnosis.
