I was lucky enough to have visited the Dole Pineapple factory in Honolulu during a trip to see my friend, back in the early 80's, and the free samples at the end of the tour was pure nectar of the gods!

It's in the same family as the Spanish Moss you might have seen hanging from trees in movies about the Southern US. If you look at that up close it looks like tiny pineapple plants. This family is very popular with florists for it's colorful leaves. The wild pineapple is one of the prickliest plants you'll ever see, even the fruit has spikes and the leaves can cut you like a saw blade.

We in our opulence, are so jaded. We take for granted the simple pleasures that astound these basic guys. Makes me happy to see someone so happy for a simple pleasure. Personally, a pineapple malt is a dessert that just makes me happy.
As always these gents are spot on culinarily speaking. I often season pineapple with cinnamon and put it on the grill as a desert. I also dice it with some jalapeno, tomato, and cilantro as a salsa for salmon taco.
