    This is probably one of your best videos I've seen. I previously had pretty much this same issue with my swing and it was causing me to hit a lot of heavy shots brushing behind the ball.
    I was basically "fake" weight transferring like you showed, meaning hip moving a bit but then pausing on my back foot and not actually shifting my weight forwards much. Once I fixed that and actually started committing and doing real weight transfer forwards (well before impact), the large percentage of fat shots stopped, and I started getting the low point after the ball consistently.

    I've really been struggling lately with hitting the ball fat. It has ruined my scores. The fat shots started after a lesson where the coach was prodding me to start the downswing by sliding my hips forward. I was getting stuck with too much weight on my trail side. Today I hit the range and took your advice about starting the downswing with my shoulder turn. 90% of the shots were pure. Thanks for the tip!!

    Congrats! Your best video ever. I am working on this exact thing and coming to your same conclusion. Most of us have an inadequate forward weight shift. Most important point is at 9:31 in this vid. Man you made this vid just in time for me. The move is subtle but oh so important. It comes down to working hard to get that subtle linear shift of your weight towards the target in a synced up manner with the shoulders and arms. I am definitely a victim of the "trying to do the right thing, stay behind the ball" school. So we meant well but in my opinion the real magic is in the move you are describing. I'm hitting my irons more crisply and with less effort then ever before. Well done and thanks for posting.

    Definitely one of my number one problems. Early on when I picked up the game and with various instruction, I wasn't shifting my weight, head and upper body swaying. Told I need to fire my hips forward. Well, I was trying to fire my hips forward and shifting my weight to my left foot, but through that instruction I was firing my hips towards the target. End result, I'm coming over the target line and hitting the ball fat or thinning my shots. Definitely will put this one to practice to improve my ball striking.

    Love the advice. As a beginner Mark I struggle with the idea of hitting down on the ball. Your other video helped me to NOT hit down on the ball. The one that said never do this. And I struggle with weight transfer too. But this video seems to tell me to lower my shoulder which confuses me regarding not hitting down on ball. Any verbiage you can provide to differentiate is much appreciated.

    I watched how low you kept your chin on the backswing. I have been keeping it a little higher, to let my left shoulder go under it. Hogan talked about the worn mark on his shirts from where the chin would make contact. My inconsistency with hitting good shots I believe was due to the left shoulder going up instead of around. I’m hoping for greater consistency. There’s more pressure being consistently good. Thanks

    Awesome way to think about it. I have this terrible habit where I hit like 10-20 balls perfect, then I think the next 2 and then go back to hitting pure. Annoying as heck, but if I keep the weight transfer in mind and employ this, I think I'll be golden and playing scratch golf alongside you in no time :) If I were you, I'd go pro.. you have it in you.

    You should hold that club across your chest with the iron pointing up with a slightly closed face, because when you lean forward and rotate as if swinging, if done properly, that club face should be in perfect position at impact. 👍🏼 it’s a great visual feedback for feeling the movement and seeing the club position on impact.

  • @frankcanzanella6753

    Matt what about the turn of the hips generated by the knees. Power in the golf swing is generated by the lower body. Right knee initiating the lateral shift and the left knee pushing the left hip back and around.

    My biggest problem since my back surgeries, is the slide. Since I can't really rotate anymore I slide to my right instead of rotating to the right. But I'm working on a fix and as soon as it warms up I'll be back on the range

    • @retiredsparky526
      @retiredsparky526 3 года назад +1

      I’ve had back surgery also. My problem is I can turn back but when I try to turn back to the target I have a hard time turning. I wind up sliding to the left instead of turning and I wind up blocking shots out to the right specially on the shots from 100 yards and in. It is also hard to stay down when turning back to the target on my follow thru.

    • @michealhudson4515
      @michealhudson4515 3 года назад +1

      @@retiredsparky526 my issue is simular. I probably have about 30 % hip rotation left and my mind makes the adjustment by shifting my weight dramatically left and right. Some days I hit the ball like I use to but it's so inconsistent. And the worst part the longer the club the more inconsistent. Driver is awful

    • @retiredsparky526
      @retiredsparky526 3 года назад

      @@michealhudson4515 I’m just the opposite. I tend to swing a with a little faster tempo with my drive, fairway and utility woods and hit them most of the time pretty decent. It’s when I’m hitting my shorter irons and trying to have a slower more deliberate tempo I wind up blocking most of them to the right. It’s depressing because I used to shoot in the low seventies low eighties consistently. Now I can’t get out of the nineties and a lot of the times I’m in the high nineties. I’m hitting as many as 10 to 12 blocked shots a round.

    • @michealhudson4515
      @michealhudson4515 3 года назад

      @@retiredsparky526 hmm. Sadly I see the difference but the struggle is the same. Before my surgeries I was 8 handi with the occasional great score if my putter got hot. But I hadn't hit a golf ball 2005 and my son actually joined golf team and he talked me into trying to swing again. I'm wondering if it was worth it because I'm trying every thing to find consistency in my new swing

  • @annier6835

    That falling backwards sorta swing is me! Can’t fix that overbalance feeling. My swing thought tomorrow is “tip to tip” (looking over each shoulder) rotating my shoulders properly. If it doesn’t work I swear I’m taking up lawn bowls.

  • @kirkknutson7843

    I think I understand what you are trying to say by having your shoulders going down and through, but for many golfers, this drill of trying to lead with their shoulders will often lead to over the top/steep swings. The focus should maybe be more in regards to driving your weight forward by leading with the hips.

    • @MrShortGame
      @MrShortGame  3 года назад

      Over the top is usually caused by rotating the hands open on the backswing. The cool thing about doing this is that you can try to come from as far inside as possible and you'll still be fine.

    3:00 i don't think loading into the ball of the trail foot is a good position for a lot of people. shouldn't it be a linear trace from more mid-to-mid with a short iron?
    separately, what's up with your trackman numbers at 9:42? is your 8i actually a 6i or is the elevation jacked up? 'cause those numbers don't add up 😂😂😂
