I'm a rising senior and I had an okay start to high school I got a lot of B's and one C+ in 9th grade but since then I've maintained mostly straight A's with a few B+ and my unweighted gpa is a 3.6 I believe. I've been taking dual enrollment classes and AP classes since 9th grade and I'm top 6% in my class (27/430). i haven't done any special extracurriculars, Im learning how to code, I played for my schools basketball and swimming team, I was in national Honor Society and key club, and I was a gifted summer camp counselor and volunteered at the library my 10th grade year. Im looking to make my application better by volunteering at an animal shelter this summer and studying to raise my SAT score, is there any improvements or last minute things I can do to increase my chances into getting into some top schools?

You have some good extracurriculars and your improved GPA definitely shows a strong work ethic. There is a lot to be commended for!
However, we often like to think about college applications as a sales pitch. We want to ask how can we hook the admission officers by presenting ourselves as a no brainer applicant. We often achieve this by having a main strategy as an applicant, and buttressing it with proven impact in our extracurriculars.
While volunteering at an animal shelter is definitely great, we might suggest looking for an opportunity with more of a leadership position available. Depending on your intended field or major, we suggest building evidence and showing your resolve and passion to where it would naturally make sense to an admissions officer why you would be a great fit for that major and their school.
