  • The Quilt Show recently visited Philadelphia and ran across this exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (through July 7, 2024). Here we are sharing it with you.
From the Museum: "The 13 quilts on view were acquired in 2017 through the Souls Grown Deep Foundation and were selected to tell the history of quilt-making in Gee's Bend (Alabama) from the mid-1920s to 2005. The significance of these quilts to their makers is expressed in the quilters' own words gathered from contemporary interviews."

My husband and I visited Gees Bend last month. It was wonderful meeting China Pettway and Mary Ann Pettway. They were both busily quilting in the workroom, and the room next door held quilts of many sizes that were for sale. They were lovely and gracious women carrying on the traditions of Gees Bend quilts.

Excellent video. I enjoyed this rich historical story about these fabulous quilters. They are so amazing to make a quilt with what they have on hand.
