  • Three great young trumpet players trade solos on the old Louis Armstrong tune "Mahogany Hall Stomp", backed by Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Dominick Farinacci and Brandon Lee (both 17 at the time) and Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews (age 14) are the guest soloists, part of a PBS Live from Lincoln Center show dedicated to Louis Armstrong. This was broadcast in about 2001 so obviously these guys are older now.

    Look at Wynton's face when Troy is playing! He's so proud and it's all over his face. Hell, I'm even proud! He's such an amazing guy and I'm so glad I've gotten the privilege to talk to TROMBONE SHORTY. Not only is he going places, he's already gone. A true inspiration to all. ♥

    Awesome. Wynton M is way more than a great trumpet player of our age - he's a custodian of the art form. We are in his debt.

    wow. just wow. i have never seen this before, and i've been a shorty fan more than a minute. i agree with ms. crawford below - was thinking the exact same thing...that wynton just looks thrilled. troy is a rare talent. cannot fathom being this good at anything at 14...wonder if he ever could have imagined what was to come!

    you cannot compare these guys. d. is amazing, and i would agree that his playing is the most interesting here. but shorty has raw power and charisma, and is the most compelling of the three. and , at the end, will be more widely appreciated.

    @dsterud haha youre so right, Ricklee has seriously some of the most ignorant comments. Trombone Shorty is 14 in this! thats like saying michael jordan sucks at basketball cuz he couldnt dunk at 14. troy still had a great feel for the music even if his ideas werent the most inventive. Now Troys going around making appearances in the super bowl and nba all star games and the rock hall of fame while Ricklee is sitting at home talking about how bad Troy is...

    etter than he did here, and yes I am a trombone player and could run circles around him on bone! He has and always we be about the showmenship,

  • @guitarman63mm
    @guitarman63mm 14 лет назад +4

    I know that we shouldn't argue about 'best'...but the young Mr. Andrews was lacking in ideas...yes, we know you can hit the high notes...
    And before someone flames me...yes, he can play circles around me on bone and trumpet today; it doesn't mean he's infallible and exempt from any criticism. Get off your knees and just listen...

      guitarman63mm dude. The music not about just spitting out the coolest licks. Sometimes it’s connecting with those around you. And Troy does that to a T

  • @GUIGUI139
    @GUIGUI139 15 лет назад +5

    not the intellectualship of Jazz. Yeah play high notes! That'll work! 2 ideas maybe in the whole thing and the rest call and response high crap! Dominick making the changes, rhythmic passages and a lot of ideas, repitition used in a good way, inflections in a good way AMD communicates with the band. Look at it this way there are 3 conversations you have. One doesn't talk alot but when he does it counts!
