I am in awe of Delibes. That anyone could visualise the beauty of such a combination of two voices even before committing them to a score, is astonishing. I am not musical, but this delights me every time I hear it.
This is so beautiful, it makes you realise that no instrument, no matter how well played, just can't compare to the human voice. I'm currently binge listening to many different performances of this song, and no matter how beautiful the others are, this is by far my favourite. This is just so natural and effortless. Probably it's because it's sung by two native french speakers, whereas many versions are in a rigid operatic setting, and sung in French by non French speakers. The sung conversation between the two of them flows perfectly. Great choice. 👍

And this beats hands down the Amira version (I know she's young etc. but way too heavy accent and approximative diction) along with a lot of the versions I heard, which are not as well balanced (voices wise and voices/orchestra wise). Here, you can hear and understand every word. This is harmony made in heaven. There's also a version by Natalie Dessay and Delphine Haïdan that is just as good.
It's French they talk about the birds but there is an underlying fear of the father they have an accent so it's difficult to tell but tit's very much about birds song!!!
This is pure music with emotion . These two ladies brake you down . I love this aria and the opera of Leo Delibes so much ... But I 'm not so strong for duo des fleurs , everytime I'm getting in tears after hearing this aria . So pure , so powerful , so epic ! This is the epitomy of pure music !
I recommend Sabine's interpretation of the Bell Song from the same opera Lakmé. It is the best version, top of their game, and it's their mother tong so the prononciation is flawless !
