People just generally trusted other people back then, especially on their word, since reputation was so important. These days literally everyone is mistrustful until they know more or have an entire portfolio you can see of them online.

Trust was basically everything people had to go on mostly at the time. Sure there was some technology and training to avoid false cheques, basic scams and robbery, but the end of the day the entire cheque system relied apon genuine signatures, something that is far too easy to emulate and copy and face to face dialog with is open to social engineering.
That's totally fiction. Frank Abignale never did ANY of the things he claimed. He never conned his way onto any airplanes. He never worked as a doctor, lawyer, or teacher. He never did any consulting work for the FBI. Abignale is a pathological liar, not a master con man. The ONLY thing he ever did, was pass a couple of bad checks totaling less than $1,500 combined, at a few small mom & pop businesses, and then he went to prison for it.

Sure there was some technology and training to avoid false cheques, basic scams and robbery, but the end of the day the entire cheque system relied apon genuine signatures, something that is far too easy to emulate and copy and face to face dialog with is open to social engineering.

That's totally fiction. Frank Abignale never did ANY of the things he claimed. He never conned his way onto any airplanes. He never worked as a doctor, lawyer, or teacher. He never did any consulting work for the FBI.
Abignale is a pathological liar, not a master con man.
The ONLY thing he ever did, was pass a couple of bad checks totaling less than $1,500 combined, at a few small mom & pop businesses, and then he went to prison for it.
