  • LOW FLOW is a pressure-reducing process.
It acts on the solenoid valve between pump and coffee boiler.
When the solenoid valve is enabled, the water passage is at its peak,
so you get a FULL FLOW.
When the solenoid valve is disabled,
water passage depends on the pump pressure. If the pump is active and the low-flow solenoid valve is disabled: you will get the condition of LOW FLOW,
so the pump will push to its maximum, (for ex. 10 bar).
With this function, the solenoid valve works like a pressure reducer, meaning that it blocks the water passage by slowing it down.
When both solenoid valve and pump are enabled, the water passage is to its maximum:
you will get the condition of FULL FLOW.
preinfusion affects the pump by turning it on and off.
When the pump is off there is no push in the coffee boiler.
When the pump is on and the low flow solenoid valve is in the closed position , (low flow mode).
the on-off button flashes during the shot to indicate that there is push of water, but this is in a reduced quantity.
When the pump is on and the solenoid valve is in the open position (full flow), the on-off button is on fixed during the shot to signal that there is full flow water pushing

    Hi Mauro,
    Your video is very detailed,
    thanks for the explanation.

Thanks for the demonstration. However, I'm still not entirely sure how the low-flow and pre-infusion parameters interact. Is there a video or document where this is explained? Italian or English would both be fine for me. Grazie!

Search for Lance Hedrick on RUclips. He explains it very good.

A question - with the fully open paddle, in the very first workflow “Preinfusion without Low Flow”, the pressure on the brew group manometer after 5+11=16 seconds only goes up to 6 (not 9-10) bar. Does it mean that the “fully open paddle” isn’t really fully open?
The pump manometer seems to be showing 9 bars.

try with the blind fhilter, if the pressure is above 9 it means that is the coffee (too coarse)

we are using italian coffee, medium dark , when we use midium roast we extending the extraction time.

I’m sorry for this silly question but I noticed that the pressure on the last pull dropped down to 4 bars by itself. Is that normal? My machine sometimes has a sudden drop of pressure which I can’t figure out why.

I am new to Bianca as well. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.
But I think it is "low flow - final", which means that the pressure reduces at the end of the shot.

@@WolfOren1 Thanks so much for your explanation. I will go back to my machine and do a bit more experimenting to truly understand how the low flow works. Actually, during the video, the tester asked whether he could have the low flow at 3 bars instead of 4, but I guess that it wasn’t answered. Not that I would also like to do that, but perhaps the paddle at a set position could also achieve it? Thank again!!

Hello and thanks. With pre infusion and low flow when we set low flow on 10 it means 10 second after pre infusion or 10 second including pre infusion?

My understanding is low flow begins counting from when the shot starts. A value of 10 will run a low flow for 10 secs. If you have pre-infusion set to start at 10 secs, this will shut the pump off 10secs after the shot begins and it will remain off for the duration you set pre-infusion OFF to. After which it will resume full flow. The value you set Low Flow Final to begins at that many secs into the shot.

Hi Mauro, when the beans are medium to light roasted, what is your recommendation for all set up - preinfusion - start, preinfusion - end and low flow - start/ low flow final? Thank You!
