Canibus always been a sick rapper. To me the two things that kept him from blowing up more was the fact that many of the beats he rapped over were subpar and also he doesn’t rap to the lowest common denominator, he’s talking about science, history, biology, engineering etc which I love but in certain spaces people are just not gonna feel that kind of subject matter, but I respect he never changed himself just to fit in with the current times. P.S. Another song by Canibus is Curriculum 101, check that out it’ll blow your mind.
If you wanna see what I think is an example of canibus's wordplay at its prime, I'd suggest beast from the east featuring him, A+, Redman. Nice reaction as always, bis one of the great lyricists from the 90s and early 2000s. What's crazy is, 100 bars isn't anything for him. He made a song called "Poet Laureate Infinity" which is 1000 bars long and about 53 minutes long.
His album Rip The Jacker is one of my favorite albums, an underrated hip hop masterpiece. He literally rapped the entire album with no beat, rapping to a metronome, then sent the vocals to the producer (Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind, producer for Jedi Mind Tricks) who had to put his vocals to beats - Canibus had joined the military and was shipping out so he couldn't do it live. What results is one of the most lyrically dense albums ever created that ends with Poet Laureate II, one of the most insane lyrical displays ever.
If you wanna hear Canibus go bananas....Check out The C-Quel off the 2000 B.C. album and make sure it's the extended version. You won't be disappointed....keep up the good work Young King.

Canibus is too sickwitit. A true lyricist. I just wish he had branched out more and been a little more creative with his rhymes. He was 100% in battle mode always but that's not always what people want to hear. If he had done more songs with music like what DMX did with "slippin" and maybe a duet with a nice R&B lady he would have blown up way bigger than he did. Of course, going up against LL gave him a short term win, but didn't help in the industry in the long run when he was in his prime.
@@trickers24 VideoFiles99 is right. I’m a Canibus fan but like %90 of his songs are about how hard he is. Doesn’t really tap into any personal areas that much besides Poet laureate II. You're sorta right, bro, I feel you. He's got many songs touching different subjects and disciplines though, including social commentary, scientific facts, theories and all that. It's just the lack of marketing and industry support what's the problem. Some club bangers would definitely help but it requires a bigger budget and compromises, he's not about that.
