I worked in Desktop Publishing for 10 years. You just taught 3 years of in-production training in less than 18 minutes. This video is incredibly useful!
66 Year Old Fart signed up for your course. Had to apply eye drops this morning due to eyes glazed over when I hit the Figma portion. I figure everyone starts at "0", right? It's hard, but I'm going to be one of your best students.
Alek, you're just the greatest, buddy. Personable, concise, cogent, and without the prevalent hucksterism and funnel hustle found in so many YT presenters. And all of your videos are so encouraging. Thanks for your high level of professionalism.
@GsudbdJdndb No. How about you go get a real job and do something with your life, 'cause this ain't it. You make the world worse, not better, think about that when you go to bed.
This is another awesome video. Thank you! Have spent a fair amount of time in Photoshop and can 100% agree with the value of learning the hot keys. Thank you, Alek!
I am so glad I started watching your videos, like a week ago. This video is answering a lot of left over questions I had about using Figma. Thank you for explaining how this all works together step by step.
@alek thanks for this great video, when I try and get the distressed look to work the distressed layer is just disappearing and the coloured text is not being affected. any tips why this might be happening would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advanced!
This was a really great video, thank you. I watched it then played it through again following along, stopping and starting while I worked it out. I've not used figma before as I mainly use Canva so some of the things took a little more work until I understood what you were doing but I got there in the end. A lot of these text effects can't be done in Canva (or at least I don't know how) and this has opened up so many new things for me to play with.
This was incredibly useful information! You are a great teacher and communicate the information in your videos so well. It's truly amazing how much information you fit into each one.
While I already know how to do this with the other programs in my arsenal, this is a great video, and because of your design video, I'm learning figma... Thanks man!!!
Thank u. I have been using Godaddy studio for a few years..and love it for its ease and intuitive platform, and phone and desktop app integration - but it has its limitations. So now I can try out figma when i want to get more sophisticated with Text.
Thanks for making it so simple. And also showing simple examples. These tips will help me out big time as my main problem when designing still is thinking too complicated. Also this figma software is so similar to affinity designer, crazy that i never heard of it.
Thank you Alek for this incredible content that is so helpful. But, Is it possible to make a full tutorial about how to use Figma but a little bit more slow ? 😅Some parts oh this one are to fast me my beginners mind 😄
Alek! You are incredible!!!! This is absolute gold. Thank you so much for keep putting out these awesome content! I will repay your kindness one day $$$. I've used your affiliate links and if there's anything else I could do to show support, I'm game. I'm a subscriber and always liked your videos. 😍
Excellent video! I'm a UX designer who uses Figma daily, learned a few tricks here. Unfortunately, the texture mask technique doesn't work anymore in Figma.
That was a great fully loaded video, i watched one of your other videos and you used figma i downloaded and got confused! after this i think i am going to try it again. Thanks

Hi I’m new a subscriber and I love your videos so far! Can you please talk about the resolution of the designs? I made one using mid journey and when I uploaded it to printful, the quality was bad.
hey, the thing you're showing at 11:20 is not working. When I do it, the overlay just disappears and the text looks just like normal text would. Does anyone have any tips? I've been struggling for several hours... Doesn't work both with jpg and svg..
I'm a bit confused. I keep trying to achieve the distressed look. I layer my text over the distressed overlay, group the text and the distressed overly and then click the sub mask icon, but nothing happens.
Skill #7 (Distressed Layer) - Really struggling to get this to cut the "dots" out of the text in the right way. It either completely deletes the layers, or is very sparse and you can't read the text (basically the inverse of what you're accomplishing). Am I missing something?
Skill 7 double masking is not working for me if i am masking a text with image it's working fine but after that if i try to mask distressed layer the color of that group is changing to the distressed pattern anyone have solution for this
Hey Alek, great video! I was wondering how to run s POD from another country works. How do I manage the returns and lost in mail, all that stuff. Thank you!
A great video with so many tips in such a short time! But one thing doesn't work for me: the grunge effect! I put the font over the effect, select both, go to mask and the effect doesn't work. I've tried everything and have even restarted the program. No chance. It only works to a limited extent if I set the mask to "luminance" afterwards - but not properly either. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!
Is Figma completely free to use? I was trying to move along with you while watching the video and trying to use figma, and I was missing a lot of options. Thank you!
How can I be sure that resolution of a graphic shall be quality enough for printing on a T-shirt and that my product will look exactly as I have seen it on my monitor?
Hey Alek love your Videos :) Question i know you like Figma but do you use it often for your shops or do you prefer more Adobe Illustrator or maybe Affinity Designer? Greetings from Germany. PS: can anyone tell me whats the name of the tool to show what ranking reveneu etc for etsy? Thanks
Thank you very much for the video. On creating negative spaces, I'm trying to do the same and it keeps cutting a rectangle instead of the bigfoot shape. Already tryied with svg files png files and nothing. But it works with created fonts on figma. I you or someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate. Thank you
Hi Alek do you offer the 35$ Free Shipping Guarantee in your shops? I do and I'm struggling with that. When I offer a 15% discount on my items, then once people order 2 things (above 35$) and get free shipping I make hardly any profits, considering 6.5% Etsy fees as well, and the 10$ shipping I have to pay. And if I price my items even higher I end up way more expensive than the others, I'm already in the mid range. Considering I'm a new shop trying to grow this is tough! What is your personal experience?
I'm a professional graphic designer and artist... I can't see where if I was new to GD this would be the easiest way to get it done IN THE BEGINNING. However if you make this your full time I say to learn more. I'm not even saying to buy software but to learn concepts and some design theory from RUclips videos by designer for free. Also get better FREE software that do pro level work like Inkscape instead of Adobe Illustrator. Then for a lil bit of money then buy Affinity Photo and Designer.
Wowwww, I have 22 listings no sales Lol, but I'm also taking the righteous path and only doing designs that are beneficial to world. I.E animal rights, plant based, environmentalism, etc. Not the typical garbage people buy.
I did a Mother’s Day shirt and then a dog birthday shirt, views and sales completely gone now lol, think I got super lucky, definitely do what you enjoy if not it just feels like another 9-5. But if you do want a 9-5 in Etsy then making the best selling “garbage” designs might be the best way to bring in sales. Still fairly new to all this but I’m in it for the long run. Trying to get 2 designs out a week. Gonna start designing for holidays as well. Good luck man I hope you get 1,000,000 sales with your designs.
Thanks for the great video. I've seen oyu used both Canva and Figma in designs making. From your opinion are they interchangeable or you use them in different ways?
@@alekSheffy do you know another way to create distressed text layers because the masking isn't working for me and I followed your instruction step by step
Hello Alek, thanks for all the great videos, and I'm sorry to hear about your recent shop issue with people ripping off your designs. If I may ask a question of you, or anyone else with an opinion, would you have separate Etsy shops for the US and the UK, using local Printify print providers for both? Thank you, and all the very best 👍
Great video Alek! I have watched your other videos as well. How can you compete as a complete beginner with bigger fishes who are already well established in platforms like Etsy? These guys probably are way more SEO optimised than a newbie starting out today.

Little bit late but you have to place the vector on top of the words, select both layers, and then mask them.
I can't figure out how to stack masks, everytime i overlay a second mask, the first one disappears
Is the free version of Figma tool enough to do all that you have covered?
I'm a bit confused. I keep trying to achieve the distressed look. I layer my text over the distressed overlay, group the text and the distressed overly and then click the sub mask icon, but nothing happens.
