I'm actually kinda jealous of you being able to experience the game as a new player just having fun. Good luck with that and don't let toxic players ruin your experience. You're doing great mate!
So happy to be watching you play Dota Grubby! We met in an IHOP in like 2009 at MLG Anaheim [ I'm sure you remember :P ] after having known about you during the WC3 days of watching pro replays. So many years later and I still get the pleasure to watch you game! Love your attitude and everything you've done for gaming! (Edit: my buddy let me know that event was actually in 2012 lol)
It's also interesting how he gradualy starts noticiting the misplays of other players and grows saltier than he usually is when playing WC or HOTS. That's DOTA's corruptive influence there.
11:20 It's not just AS or AD, Grubby, every hero has their own attack animation delays. Especially ranged heroes, because you also have to take into account projectile speed. High DPS heroes like Clinkz, Drow, etc have very slow attack animation early on, and a relatively slow projectile speed. Thats why its really hard to cs on ranged heroes, especailyl if you playing the hero first time! Don't mind those comments about missing CS too much! Also another tip, its generally very favorable to build soul ring onto mana intensive carries like clinkz. With soul ring you never have to go base or bring in any consumables. You can farm all the time in the jungle, and also gank around.
I've noticed you use want frequently, the wand charges are built once enemy heroes cast spells around you, so wait for it to build charges and use it if you're getting chased for the extra hp, or if u need mana to finish off somebody. GL!!!
Wand is one of those items that you take for a given, but you need to take a step back and remember what it does. For Grubby that might be the case, because of 'just going for it' + twitch comments can often lack the finesse of explanation. I think in CK game, someone explaining Armlet was a huge step forward. Someone should just make Grubby take a step back and say hey, Wand depends on how spammy the enemies are and how much of an impact would using it give you as opposed to say occasional use skill + sheer regen. So, say CK would use wand well, but for someone like Axe, it is not a bad thing per say, but debatable. How much they spam vs how much you spam low cost skills.
3:26 Back in Old Warcraft and DotA 1, we have something called "Orb Walking". Basically instead of auto toggling skills (Frost Arrow from Drow, Searing Arrow from Clinkz, Burning Spears from Huskar etc), we use the ability itself. Not only it gives longer range than the actual attack range of the Hero, you're not gonna get Tower Aggro when you're doing Orb Walking. That's why Grubby asked if it gives bonus range.
I'd like to add to the people that replied. In DotA 1 when Pugna uses Decrepify on a enemy Hero, you can use the Orb Walking mechanic to *ATTACK* the Hero that has has been Decrepified. The physical damage will not be dealt but the damage and effect of the toggle skill will proc. Meaning if someone is hit by Decrepify and say Huskar uses his Burning Spears manually, the auto attack won't deal damage but you can stack the Burning Spears DoT.
Damn, if it's not for the silly Civil War in your team, you might have a chance to win this! Also, sometimes it's hard to go ward when the enemies are already camping on your jungle's high ground, that's what Lich trying to say anyway.
grubby has reignited a passion for learning I never knew I had. watching him play this game and be so genuinely interested in learning, is one thing I have been missing from my own life. playing dota for almost 11 years, I haven't learned anything outside of my hobbies like music creation, and dota. I have been inspired to take a break and really learn more about my own life. and intern, has made my dota games so much fucking better. I would play 40 games ever 4 days, I would try to play as much dota as I can. now I play maybe 4 and I spread them throughout the day while I'm learning how to cool and take care of my adhd. I've got a green page after starting this method immediately
You played it well grubby. That was a threatening lane for clinkz. Both doom and lc's ult can easily counter you. Your map awareness is also improving dramatically. It was a lost in the end tho but it's still a fun game. I see that near the end you semi critize lich and sk for feeding/AFKing. Its not a bad thing. I feel like you were nearing tilt tho. But its fine. Some games you play it 100% the best you can and seing your teammates dont match your effort can be tilting. And i think you feel the same. Cant wait to see you play rank. I love Clinkz lore , so i also drop it here : At the base of the Bleeding Hills stretches a thousand-league wood, a place called The Hoven, where black pools gather the tarry blood of the uplands, and the king-mage Sutherex sits in benevolent rule. Once a sworn protector of the Hoven lands, Clinkz earned a reputation for his skill with a bow. In the three-hundredth year of the king-mage, the demon Maraxiform rose from sixth hell to lay claim to the forest. In response, the king-mage decreed an unbreakable spell: to any who slew the demon would be granted Life Without End. Unaware of the spell, Clinkz waded into battle, defending his lands against the demon's fiery onslaught. Clinkz drove Maraxiform back to the gates of sixth-hell itself, where on that fiery threshold the two locked in a mortal conflict. Grievously wounded, the demon let out a blast of hellfire as Clinkz loosed his final arrow. The arrow struck the demon true as hellfire poured out across the land, lighting the black pools and burning Clinkz alive at the instant of the demon's death. Thus, the mage's spell took effect at the very moment of the archer's conflagration, preserving him in this unholy state, leaving him a being of bones and rage, caught in the very act of dying, carrying hell's breath with him on his journey into eternity.
Based on your gameplay i gave Dota2 a try after 8 years, it was close to playing it for a first time as i havent even played it lot back then. Man, now i appreciate how good you are, kudos.
I was so proud when you learned to use your skills to get cs lol. Also 1 pro tip to level up your game sense and quality of life, ALWAYS look at the map. When I play DOTA, I almost look at the map at least every 2 seconds. This will take your gameplay to a whole new level. You'll be able to TP and help your teammates when needed (or when a teamfight is happening or about to happen), you'll be able to anticipate enemy ganks, and you'll be able to initiate ganks yourself. This might be a little advanced in the dota skillset for a beginner but I hope that you start adapting this habit to improve your gameplay a little faster and better.
I know it's bad and toxic but now I can finally say this. Welcome to Dota 2 (community)Grubby. Lmao Some of us are really toxic but don't let that toxicity influence you. Keep it PMA!!! You're awesome. Cheers!
Yeah i myself get pretty tilted about minor things when playing with randoms. I mainly play support or offlane so i provide space to carries. But some players dont deserve to have supports. I'm chill to new players tho. And tend to apologize to my teammates that i trashtalk.
I love watching Grubby play Dota 2...but... Don't be constrained by the 'build' guides...they can be helpful guides, but you should be building per the situation you're in, or the matchups you face. The guides tend to assume 'best case scenario' - like if things are going well in lane with creep score, or getting a lot of early game kills, or pushing towers at proper times. But most games don't go perfectly. Unexpected things will happen. Sometimes putting one point to the 'less important skill' early can mean a difference, especially in situations like at 13:00 .
That's not really good advice for a beginner. Until you understand all items, all heroes and all interactions between them (Which will take about 300-500 hours for basics), you should just follow guides and recommended. Otherwise it'll just reinforce mistakes
@@endlessnoodle3056 im 100% agree with you, BUT he is grubby, he played a lot of hots and wc3, he knows a invisible skill could have save him there, he just stick to the guide to much, i love watching him playing tho.
You can "orb walk" to not draw aggro from creep wave. Orb walking means to manually cast certain toggle able spells like searing arrow, huskar's burning spear, silencer's glaives etc.
So the lich was trying to ward the entire time and he doesn't have any escapes(thats why he was out alone) since you had invis next time try suggesting him giving you the wards then you can safely ward
I have 7k hours in Dota 2. When WC3 Reforged was announced I started watching you because I wanted to be good at the game. Watching you learn Dota 2 reminds me of myself learning WC3.
1:02:08 No we're looking at his gameplay and tactics. That was VERY high level gameplay on his part. His gold income, his pulls, his farming, his battle-tactics, his items, all extremely precise & fast. He knew exactly what he was doing. I saw very few mistakes. That's an expert playing that character. 👍But yes it was a fun game to watch. 🙂
Very true although his teamfights need some work, he kept wasting his Q whenever there's an imminent Clash and running around like a headless chicken and generally not picking targets properly, he could've easily crippled SF and doom by killing their teammates since LC and BS were pretty much deadweights in the match.. but that's just me ranting my opinion and overall it was a good match for Grubby.
Btw, you can still use WC3 hot keys such as A for attack and S/H to stop and hold respectively. You can stop animations of your attacks and try to time last hits/cs. Even P for patrol and shift for chained actions also work if you want to AFK jungle farm.
Swapping with Life stealer was a horrendous suggestion. Clinkz can get farm in that lane, Stealer would just die, every time Legion commander came into that lane at this point. He's lvl5 against lvl7 Lucy and roaming LC, and he's melee, he also has no invis for escaping. He'd just be hugging the tower, hoping to get some xp, when creep wave came close.
GGs I like your immersive style of learning the game. I have a hard enough time watching the minimap without reading a chat. You have good instincts and ask the right questions to learn things rapidly. GLHF
RUclips suggested me this channel when Grubby was playing his first dota2 game. Have watched all your games. I can say I definitely see a good progress.
We're at finally at C. Honestly I can't wai too see Grubby playing micro heroes and Chen is just a stone skip away. Also, there lot more thing to love in Dota 2 other than it mechanic and features. The lore, heroes background, item background, heck even heroes skin have it's own lore. Hero s have it's own history with one another, even special dialogue when they meet as ally or enemy.
4:59 Clinkz had talent which allowed you to consume Ancient Creeps. So with that talent you could do that: you needed Lifestealer teammate to buy Helm of Overlord, he dominates golem ancient creep and uses Infest on it. Then you consume that creep with Death Pact. You haf a lot of HP and damage from that. Btw now you can just dominate tomato creep and consume it instead)
the ulti of clinks , if you take a creeps higher hp the higher you get additional damage, skeleton walk is like juggernaut for ambush but still if you want to spam it just make sure if you want to attack the enemy its cooldown should be 1 to 2 seconds left so you can escape if ever there is something wrong.
dont let these comments discourage you , you are doing very well for just having picked up the game , its incredibly complex and each hero plays very differnt, all these people just forgot how long it took them to learn all the heros
If your a spammer of mana early buy bottle when its empty click the courier then return to base and then the bottle is filled then give it to your hero unli life in lane so you wouldn't have to go home to base again and again. You can short cut it by using alt or shift + the key to return the item to the hero its like rally point basically.
It’s so funny how chat will always accuse everyone that’s snowballing as a Smurf. The very first game of dota I played I went mid as drow ranger, outplayed my enemy, started snowballing, by the 15 minute mark I could 1v1 all of them easily, by the 30 minute mark I could 1v5 them and just went on and destroyed them all. Went something like 25-1. Like, has chat ever played dota? If you’re able to snowball hard, you don’t even need any skill to utterly dominate, your level and item advantage does that for you, at least in low mmr lobbies. Even if you’re an absolute scrub that has no clue about the game other than having played league 10 years ago and hots very irregularly.
You know what Grub, I learned few things too watching you play since you read skill's description. Sometimes I missed something on that you "accidentally" show it to me.
I can already tell: you are ganna love nature's prophet. He is an anti fun, split pushing omnipresent hero with summons. Using melfarion stormrage as his model.
Imo, the behaviour scores really work the way it is meant to. I used to flame teammates a lot (toxic AF). But I changed my mindset and stopped being toxic no matter what (positive mental attitude). I started getting better and better teammates, dota became such a beautiful experience. TLDR; you'll not see toxic people if you're not toxic and are above 3-4K MMR.
I'm a month late , but Jungling in League versus laning in League is literally 2 different gaming experience. Unlike in Dota where you jungle because you need more farm , you jungle in league because its a required role for you to back up your other laners. Think of Jungle like a wild role where they can show up in the middle of a 1v1 fight top or mid or 2v2 fight bot lane to help them gain an upper hand whole taking jungle objectives that gives huge boost to the entire team. A person maining Jungle in League will never understand a person maining a Lane in League. vice versa.
People with weak mental fortitude and a general aversion to decent human communication and teamwork tend to ruin most Dota games. I hope your games aren't plagued by teammates like Sniper in the future, and maybe you find some fun people to play with who are also trying to get better and win. Cheers Grubby!
@@sohrabjamshed6899 Grubby does infact lack map awareness so he can't participate well in team fights. But you can't deny the fact that the Sniper is so toxic. Even at the very beginning, you can see how toxic he is, he's flaming and accusing his team of feeding when the enemy team are diving their towers and they can't do anything about it.
You're improving very fast Grubby! After dragon lance, chat starts became confusing about what to build. This is because items in Dota can be used to counter enemy strength or enhance your own strength. Linkens seems good because they counter Doom and Legion Commander ultimate, but unfortunately, the enemy who's owning is SF who relied on auto attack instead Building the right item based on enemies, your own team hero composition, and also your own playstyle is what makes differentiate between good player and great players Also it's very fun watching how you handle the toxicity
This is really fun watching you progress through this awesome game, and reminds me that after 10k hours games I still have a lot to learn, even on basics. On this game I'm not quite sure chat's advices was so good. You really could have use a gleipnir in your build, for more kitting. WP anyway, hf next
Until you get last hitting down. I might suggest rushing 2 wraith bands or something equivalent depending on your main attribute for the hero. Some get a quelling on range too. If you're missing cs/creep score/last hits. Sometimes those cheap items offset the cost anyway, from the extra last hits you get with them. Just some thoughts. :)
The build was kinda bad, tbh. No invis even after lvl 6, no wraith bands for early game. Wraith bands give you the extra damage you need for CSing and a single point in invis, best at lvl 2, allows you to save yourself in many situations as well as relocate faster as it gives extra MS.
This definitely was winnable at the 40 min mark. Perhaps you should turn on voice chat and communicate with your teammates. Team work makes the dream work. Also Lich wasn't feeding, he was trying to ward but kept getting gangked. He said he can't go alone when you asked for wards.
@@huniverso Between attempting to deward and die or not dewarding and keep losing, he couldn't have done anything to change the outcome. Though he was pretty bad, the loss is accredited to the entire team. Ironically, from what I can see the best player on this team was sniper. He was playing as he should and making/attempting correct moves. Too bad he was a little bitch
The problem with warding is you are no supposed to run off into the darkness to ward. You need to be absolutely sure that there are no enemies there. Usually you ward when you move as a team to seek a team fight or after a fight. Once you established control you can ward to secure that control. Map awareness is crucial as a support. There is a lot more to warding among other things its a constant mind game with the enemy
Hi Grubby! been following your a-z journey, 1 thing i noticed is you're not using tango as early a you should. Tango takes time to replenish your life, so try to use it early especially against aggressive lanes. And if you need to top up your life, buy healing salve instead of tango. Tango is good early laning stage.
You just need to get small items like wraith band, just increase your initial dmg to ease the last hits. Getting last hits with damage below 70 is hard.
i've been hoping to watch grubby play dota 2 for years lol. i think if he actually sticks with it and picks a certain roll with a few select heroes he could be 5k mmr easy in a year. im thinking offlane/mid makes the most sense for him
beside playing OG dota i have never played/watched content regarding dota 2 BUT watching someone with great general gaming sense and beeing a wc3 pro in the background ( kind of the same mechanics) is realy enjoyable. I hope you have good enough fun/succes playing dota 2 that you will continue. Do you have a general goal playing dota? or just having some fun?
Grubs before entering a match while you are in the private lobby learning each hero you should practice csing for a few minutes until you can comfortably get 80+% of the last hits while level 1 without items. It's tedious but vital bud. Iv had supports start stealing cs after I missed just a few last hits 🙃. Also shard and scepter dudes give very high health/dmg buff with ult. Early shard is great because you never have to waste precious time looking for a big creep to consume....and they are like free wards if you spam windwalk.
Oh and drops are a great cheap source of mana regen on top of a few clarities every now and then. Clicks is a bit of a mana sapper so it's good to get some form of mana regen early game. Most common item you will see on him to fit this role is a falcon blade. Bit expensive for a low tier item but it gives everything a clinks wants in the early game.
i wouldn't forgive you at all, you can load the hero in the CS trainer before each new hero try for 5 mins and get a feel for it, you have no excuse to being this bad at last hitting, its atrocious.
that SF is definitely not on your bracket. He just steamrolled mid and farming against sniper, a common matchup on 3-4k player lich sk lane losing is weird since they both had slow and stun, usually Bloodseeker hate that kind of lane. a typical 1 v 2 lane just try to take as much Last hit without endangering your position, you cant force them out unless they make a play where lc just tanking all the damage XD
Hey Grubby I have a suggestion, after you practice a certain hero in DEMO, can you watch some highlight clips of that hero on youtube so that you would have some slight idea on how to synergize it with the whole team? And also how to make sick plays on it lol.
If you want to learn the tricks to the game watch datohleong's videos on RUclips it's the best educational channel I've seen but i suggest you do that after trying out all the heroes to have the base knowledge needed your mindset will improve by a lot learning how good players think and watching them play Also if you start watching datohleong's videos maybe start from the older ones first the newer ones might confuse you a bit

Just some tips, you can just que what you want to buy on the shop by pressing Ctrl + shift and left click that item(this is the default hotkey).
So glad you are getting into dota as an old fan of you and this game ! Big love from france
Im loving this series Grubby ! Keep it up !
GGs I like your immersive style of learning the game. I have a hard enough time watching the minimap without reading a chat. You have good instincts and ask the right questions to learn things rapidly. GLHF
I'm enjoying the Dota videos greatly. Keep up the great work! :D
Bro, that talent was removed ages ago. Stop spreading misinformation.
@@therealzizmon1748 dude thanks for correcting me. I’ve changed my comment)
the ulti of clinks , if you take a creeps higher hp the higher you get additional damage, skeleton walk is like juggernaut for ambush but still if you want to spam it just make sure if you want to attack the enemy its cooldown should be 1 to 2 seconds left so you can escape if ever there is something wrong.
dont let these comments discourage you , you are doing very well for just having picked up the game , its incredibly complex and each hero plays very differnt, all these people just forgot how long it took them to learn all the heros
That sniper lol. Classic dota
dude's hiding behind his scores instead of acknowledging his poor performance sheesh... N'aix and SK didn't fair any better though.
Just for informations !!! You have a brutual combo ( clinkz + lifesteeler ) !!! You can reach the +400 damage with a simple clik !
took 45 minutes to realize Grubby’s team had a sand king
Man, very well done, came across your stream because of dota, really enjoyed your content.
That Sand King legit was repeating the same 3 lines the entire game
Very impressive how Grubby was constantly cutting waves like a pro
Linkens seems good because they counter Doom and Legion Commander ultimate, but unfortunately, the enemy who's owning is SF who relied on auto attack instead
Building the right item based on enemies, your own team hero composition, and also your own playstyle is what makes differentiate between good player and great players
Also it's very fun watching how you handle the toxicity
Hi. I remember meeting you at burger king in 2008 at a cafe near the church. Thank u for play dota
The build was kinda bad, tbh. No invis even after lvl 6, no wraith bands for early game.
Wraith bands give you the extra damage you need for CSing and a single point in invis, best at lvl 2, allows you to save yourself in many situations as well as relocate faster as it gives extra MS.
always buy more clarity. wanted 1 - take 2. wanted 2 - take 3.
This definitely was winnable at the 40 min mark. Perhaps you should turn on voice chat and communicate with your teammates. Team work makes the dream work.
Also Lich wasn't feeding, he was trying to ward but kept getting gangked. He said he can't go alone when you asked for wards.
If he can't go alone why did he go anyways? Lmao
@@huniverso because he was getting flamed for not warding.
True dota experience. I love it. I live for it.
I am glad you are playing dota, wish you started 10 years ago haha, you would be so good by now
"sand king? more like sand cretin" hes begining to believe
that sf played better than guardian can be booster on acc, you needed gem and bloodthorn in that game for that sf, hex could be good too
There are a very few heros that will sometimes jungle from level 1 in some situations like enigma
Its generally out of style nowadays. back in the before times axe jungle was very prevelant
can't wait for invoker... and its so sad he won't be able to experience the classic techies
Hi Grubby! been following your a-z journey, 1 thing i noticed is you're not using tango as early a you should.
Sniper’s meltdown was as sad as it was entertaining
i've been hoping to watch grubby play dota 2 for years lol. i think if he actually sticks with it and picks a certain roll with a few select heroes he could be 5k mmr easy in a year. im thinking offlane/mid makes the most sense for him
beside playing OG dota i have never played/watched content regarding dota 2 BUT watching someone with great general gaming sense and beeing a wc3 pro in the background ( kind of the same mechanics) is realy enjoyable. I hope you have good enough fun/succes playing dota 2 that you will continue. Do you have a general goal playing dota? or just having some fun?
I’d love to get better and have fun. And do ti next year ;D
haha, lets go!
Nice match!!
Maybe it would be a good idea to flit the bottom hud, so grubby wouldn’t block the hero level?
It's not a real Dota session without at least two people who don't natively speak english hurling poorly translated local insults at eachother.
Maybe you should try going in with parties, it can give you better experience and avoid player afks
Build Gleipnir after Maelstrom for Clinkz, that his first basic item nowadays.. Anyway enjoyed your dota game sir
look at how innocent he is
didnt know about Grubby, i just learned that he is more ancient than Dendi lol xd
I think the best play to learn how to play dota for a casual is ability draft
it would be better if Clinkz do the warding! or else poor old cold slow lich gonna die moving around the map! lol
What I hate is that players can't take loses and when they win they celebrate it a very negative way.
As clinkz it's much safer for you to ward with your invis than your lich 😂
Lmao way too positive fam! Ls was so tilted at u tbh
I never see before speak in spanish, he say "por favor" jajaja. Grettings from argentina.
Waiting for Enchantress!
Clinkz作爲一名隱身系英雄,應該多去敵人的野區打野,而不是和隊友爭搶……何況有2名隊友需要野區。
在legion commander未拿到Blink Dagger之前,對方陣容沒有一個人有强控制。
Where’s CHEN?
I'm waiting for his reaction to redbull's og comebak movie
u should buy gleipnir then use your 1st skill that's the biggest damage u can give from clinkz
that SF is definitely not on your bracket. He just steamrolled mid and farming against sniper, a common matchup on 3-4k player
lich sk lane losing is weird since they both had slow and stun, usually Bloodseeker hate that kind of lane.
a typical 1 v 2 lane just try to take as much Last hit without endangering your position, you cant force them out unless they make a play where lc just tanking all the damage XD
I can't wait for him to comes to the "i" letter :)
Wait . So are u just visiting or are u staying?
Hey Grubby I have a suggestion, after you practice a certain hero in DEMO, can you watch some highlight clips of that hero on youtube so that you would have some slight idea on how to synergize it with the whole team? And also how to make sick plays on it lol.
I mean, those who keep on nitpicking about CS and etc should really stop and consider for a second that he's new and all that xD.
Indeed an awesome game!
maybe i should play clinkz he looks pretty fun
Ta precisando de uma loucademia Grubby. Abraço do Brasil.
Cant wait you get to lonedruid
If you want to learn the tricks to the game watch datohleong's videos on RUclips it's the best educational channel I've seen but i suggest you do that after trying out all the heroes to have the base knowledge needed
your mindset will improve by a lot learning how good players think and watching them play
Also if you start watching datohleong's videos maybe start from the older ones first the newer ones might confuse you a bit
