"My money you won't tell me what to do", i know a guy i guess i can call him rich but his logic is dumb.
He will spend a shit ton of money just to stop playing a while later, and he will do it to be as high in rankings in mmo's etc.
Personally even if i would have a lot money i would probably stick to one game (as main one) and maybe play few others, except moment when friends want to play something new, but still preorders no value, wow i can play a game (probably also not multiplayer so even dumber idea) now instead of waiting 5 days no thanks, season pass with things i may dislike no thanks

In all fairness, we used to be able to trust season passes.
If you already know that you are enough of a fan (or simp) to buy all the DLCs, you may as well grab them all in one go for the cheapest price.
That was totally acceptable back when publishers could be trusted, we all need to get the memo and stop shilling out rashly these days though.

@@NextGen9000-v5o Believe it or not, Steam Users are (generally) aware of this, but Steam users trust in Gabe Newell for reasons such what happened in this video.
Things might potentially get dicey once he retires, but until that happens Steam is like the only platform people can sincerely trust in this regard.
You can't forget that a good chunk of games also never made it to GoG to this very day, so Steam is a platform without an alternative to the overwhelming majority of gamers.
The fact that GoG versions never had any sort of online play until recent times doesn't help.
Online play on GoG is recent enough for like nobody to be aware of it's existence.
GoG is considered to be a great way to purchase your favourite single-player titles, but that's it.
Some small amount of online titles exists by now, but it's too little too late to really make a huge impact now.
Even now though, when I check GoGs catalogue, I find that a decent chunk of my steam library just isn't being sold on GoG. You must use Steam if you want to have access to certain titles, this is an indisputable fact.
There is no true alternative to Steam as of now.
GoG even in it's current state can at most be used as a supplement for Steam, and that used to be even more true in the past.
I was also told that GoG operates at a decent loss, and that CDPR (a company currently struggling to maintain itself) has to maintain GoG financially.
GoG struggles to attract customers due to it's major shortcomings compared to Steam's service.
      This much is rather obvious.
It's not viable for your average Joe to buy games on GoG.
The only GoG customers I know of are wealthy individuals who can afford to buy the Steam version of all of their games, and then purchase a DRM-less second copy of their very favourites on GoG. Nobody uses GoG as their primary platform as it's lacking a lot of important features a gaming platform requires to be viable.
Until very recently, the best way to obtain DRM-Free copies of games were CDs of console releases. Those combined the preservation-aspect of GoG with Steam's online-functionality.
There was no true need for GoG until recently, and it was the worse of both worlds until the gaming landscape changed for the worse in recent years

Im all for what Valve is doing, why do people have an issue with it, it's not going to hurt customers it's going to help them, devs need to be put on notice for a lot of things, pushing woke DEI narratives, nickel-and-diming us with crap that could have came with the base game, not making any effort to support the game to add new stuff IF people are paying them for a service...etc

@@NextGen9000-v5o They are a game publisher technically, since a solo person without a company can use Steam to sell their game and they block a lot of stuff than could be harmful to customers, some stuff I disagree with like their weird aversion to anime games, some very strange guidelines with those.

@@bes12000 "People" still need to pay 100 bucks / euros to publish a game on steam. Then they take 30% of all sales. I've been through this myself. I'm not a fan of valve or steam at all and I never will be. Steam raised the price on pc games as well, so they now cost the same as a console game.

Now put a time limit on Early Access. There are too many games that simply never release out of early access so devs don't have to commit to a full release and can hide behind "It's in early access" if a game is a buggy mess or it was abandoned outright. We buy these games many times thinking they are nearing release, only to not be able to play the full version for years, if not longer or never at all. It's a valuable tool for legitimate devs to get feedback from the customers to make changes before full release, but it is also a mechanic that is abused too often to simply never finish a game.

      @inoel75 5 дней назад

Yeah, good idea! This stance might have saved us atrocities like BG3!
Any irony you find is yours to keep 😉
But to be more serious - I understand what you mean, but early access is a risk and you as a customer are aware of this. That's why I hardly ever do it, unless I'm pretty sure the devs will deliver sooner or later, I wanna support this exact studio/developer, or if I can deal with a total loss for myself.

    • @lancesniper
      @lancesniper 5 дней назад

I don't think early access needs time limit, but the total time it has been on EA should be front and center on the store page, and a timeline for developer activity. It just gives more information so customers can make informed purchases.

It is mainly affecting bigger developers, since they usually promise a thing and one of three options happens:
    1. It comes out broken or breaks core gameplay.
    2. It is late
    3. It is cancelled.
Those three reasons is what I think caused Steam to introduce the new policy of force-refunding customers on games they paid for extra things that were never delivered. It will affect mainly medium to big corpo developers, since Indie developers usually do not promise things and usually deliver if they promise something.

Do the forums contribute monetarily to Steam? Or does it just give gamers a place to ask questions and post issues about games rather than the dev-curated Discord sites? How about profiles, groups, chat and many other features net Valve more money? If you want to argue that giving gamers a better environment gets them more business and therefore Steam gets richer then maybe you have a point but that's a win-win then.
It is - by a country mile - the best, most consumer-friendly platform for PC gamers. Nothing else compares.
