Fun Fact: Steven's floating powers were hinted at in the episode "Rose's Scabbard" where he seemed to be jumping for a long time, and didn't fall until he made eye contact with Pearl.
Wow i have watched this show so many times and haven't understood this... And it's makes a lot of sense He looked at her, his emotions changed with affected his floating abilities... Just wow
@@BeyondBlue22yea but that was rose's powers. Everyone already knew about what she could do. It's just interesting to see that steven had this power even though he didnt understood that
yeah i also think that’s it also when they fuse it makes a mushroom cloud kinda effect which is a reference to real life smoky quartz commonly being a bit irradiated i think
You can imply it that way, but it was confirmed that the fusions look the way they do simply because the Creator's thought it looked cool. It doesn't really actually mean anything. Like if a fusion has four eyes, it's not because they see things differently, it's because the Creator's just thought it would look cool. That kind of sucks, but I've accepted that
Also I wouldn't want to say something wrong, but if I recall correctly is also because left arms and being left-handed has often culturally been associated with imperfection and weakness
@@MaidenOfHusbands Well even if creators "say" that, there is a general rule when forming fusions of different gems (arms and eyes add up while legs, torso and head remain the same). There are only a few fusions (that I can remember) breaking this rule: *Garnet has only 2 arms, maybe due to the stability of the fusion based on love, or maybe due to the fact that she is a two "small" gems fusion. *Smokey Quartz has 3 arms, as mentioned before, maybe due to the fact that they consider themselves "imperfect". (The "it's because Steven is half-human" theory falls apart when you see [REDACTED]) *Malachite has 6 arms and no legs but she uses 4 arms as legs, this might be a wink to the very toxic nature of this fusion. *Fluorite has 4 arms, 6 legs, and 6 eyes, this just might be due to the ammount and variety of gems that integrate her.
Plus, all Fusions have some inhuman traits. The more stable the relationship, the more humanoid, with fusions of more than two having more and more inhumanity than those with fewer (see Sugilite vs Opal or Garnet). Contrarily, fusions of the same type of gem are simply larger versions of the base gem, regardless of relationship. At least, that is my understanding. Someone correct me if I have the metric wrong.
Steven and Amethyst fusion, Jasper corruption, knowing that pink diamond is shattered and Steven that almost killed in space. The ending of season 3 was so good
This was also the time I really got into the series and kept up with the new episodes. Was such a cool time to be a part of the fandom theorising on things.
Okay one of my favourite moments in episode 23 is the pure confusion Jasper feels when Steven says "Yellow Diamond?", the noise of wtf before she says the epic reveal absolutely sells it.
@@Aardydarlingthat emotion in the *Your diamond* part speaks volumes. Its like jasper was saying "she meant so much to me, why not to you. She was our diamond. Everyone on homeworld still hasnt gotten over it. How could you not remember? How Could Killing Her Mean So Little To You"
Anyone who says S4 is mostly filler are really missing the point of the show. The end of S3 drops a massive bombshell just when Steven thought he was finally starting to understand who Rose was (and by extension who he is) and now suddenly he's back at square one, not knowing how to feel about Rose or himself again. S4 reflects that loss of momentum by slowing down and really forcing him to find new ways to understand & relate to people without just taking everything they and others say about them at face value anymore. Naturally this results in a lot of episodes where he's off adventuring with secondary characters (both new and already established) & not directly furthering the gem war plotline, but there's a reason the show is just called "Steven Universe" - it's primarily about his character as a whole and not just what's happening around him.
Season 4 had some of my most unliked episodes but some of my favourites esp this season has the the that will be all and are you my dad arc which these episodes ARE CRAZYYYYYYY to me and are some of my all time favs
I feel like it also is representative of the swap between perspectives for the Crystal Gems, this season more than any other had the most of Steven trying to become the Rose Quartz he thought everyone wanted him to be, Healing Relationships, trying to make peace, protecting his friends and family. Next season is the one where he just gets to be Steven being Steven solving problems with his OWN life instead of the fallout of his mother’s life, and yet time and time again in season 4, her problems come back to haunt him until he feels he has to ultimately give himself up in her place, which shotguns us back into the war plot line, yeah it’s not the strongest season but it sets up perfectly and transitions between season 3 and 5 so well
I recommend everyone to be real careful with anything that might resemble a spoiler from now on. We're getting deeper and deeper on the lore and I'd like them to be as oblivious as possible going through. I also recommend you guys to be careful too.
I have always loved the duality of Amethyst and Jasper. One being the only flaw in a perfect kindergarten, and the other being the only success in a terrible kindergarten.
It's such an interesting dynamic. I like translating SU into real life scenarios, and my interpretation of Amethyst and Jasper is that Amethyst was born with good conditions, wealthy and privileged, but struggled with both physical and mental health. Meanwhile, Jasper was born in bad conditions, alike to poverty, but despite this flourished and became a "success" - at least to Homeworld's standards. Her quote "I got out because I'm better than this place" really solidifies that for me. It's so interesting to think about.
13:46 not sure if someone mentioned this but majority of the main characters have their own genre of music. steven is chiptune, amythethst has break-beat drums, pearl is very classical and uses a lot of piano, garnet has an RnB fusion. so when they fuse, so do their music which is so cool.
It’s not just genre, it’s instrument! And it gives some very neat extra layers to the characters! Like Garnet having three instruments (a bass, a keyboard, and a keytar which is a fusion of the prior two), or how Pearl and Greg both have melody instruments (piano and guitar) that struggle to coexist and fight for the audience’s attention. However, they both go great with Rose’s instrument, violins! And like you said, Amethyst is break-beat drums, drums being an instrument meant to lay the foundation of the song but fade into the background, while break-beat drums are a subversion that demands the audience pay attention to it, much like how Amethyst refuses to be an obedient soldier and instead demands to be seen as an individual. Steven, however, struggle to find his own instrument as he struggle with his identity, changing from ukulele (human side), strings I can’t identify (gem side), and chiptune (often used to signify his innocence, whether it’s being framed as childish and naive or beautiful and hopeful). Sorry, love this kind of thing😅
Ah yes, the only CN show where a child protagonist is almost shivved. Fun fact, Ruby's knife is a chisel, the kind you'd use carve rocks. Or break them.
Steven being rescued and coming to with Love Like You overlapping the crying and laughing and group hug sounds still gets me emotional. That entire scene encapsulates what I love best about the show for all its flaws. I rarely see media that unabashedly loves so much. Isn't afraid to be mocked as too sappy because it knows it's not being sappy at all, it's straight from the heart. It's a beautiful, unforgettable moment.
Fun fact: Gems personalities are very driven by the position of their gem, that's why the rubies are so different in their personalities. Forehead gems are really smart and "nerdy" (Peridot, Pearl), navel gems are very maternal and emotional (Steven, Rose, Ruby (navy)), Hand gems are strong (Garnet) and so on.
Is this confimred, if so, What does this say for Lapis's Back-Gem. And Bismuth's "Innie" (?). Or The Diamonds, who appear to have Most of their Gems located, in their Chest. Save for Pink, and White?
Just for you to know... Earth only has two kindergartens: the Prime (where Amethyst was made) and the Beta (where Jasper was made). The "facets" Peridot mentioned are basically the sections of where those kindergartens and any other gem structure are located.
yep, its like timezones on earth, or how the onepiece world is seperated into the 4 blues, by the red- an grand-lines. the world of windwaker is divided into a 7 by 7 grid, so you can say stuff, like "outset island is located in square G2" or "windfall island is located in square B4"
In case it hasn't been stated yet, each gem has their own "rhythm" and music style. When they fuse, the music also "fuses", creating a new, "better-sounding" sound and rhythm, which is why each fusion has its own "theme". You can also notice this when gems do their fusion dances, they have their own music and dance style
Peridot originally believed that Yellow Diamond was ignorant about the state of Earth and how its ecosystem was more valuable than one geoweapon. Yellow set her straight in short order (I saw what you did there, you clod!). The Diamonds are well aware about the existence of organic life in general and human life in particular on this world.
Another thing. While the gems physically are grown when formed, emotions are something they have to develop over time. From what we see, while not impossible, it doesn't come easy to gems. Look how long it took for Pearl to come to peace with Greg. That was only possible because Steven helped. Since they live basically forever, they don't experience loss and grief often. Diamonds won't take kindly to having one shattered.
Ah, the turning point in what we learn. Love these bunch of crazy episodes. The fusion was sudden for me, but it's cool you saw it coming seconds before. A new one with Steven was craved so badly at this point. Peridot is so hilarious in these episodes. They show that she has really come around. This is why she is my fav gem and deserves the spot in the intro. Also, her and Lapis relationship is so great.
14:30 I think Smokey’s three arms are to represent how Amethyst being overcooked could be like a birth defect. Smokey’s got three arms cuz Amethyst & Steven have accepted parts of themselves they’ve seen as flaws. Because Amethyst is finally embracing who she is, “flaws” and all. And because Steven helped her get there, he helped bring out her potential. That’s how I see it anyway. I’m someone who was born prematurely by 7 weeks, and whether it was due to that or my nutrition growing up, I’m on the shorter side for most guys my age. It’s something that’s bugged me for most of my life, but I’ve been making peace with it in more recent years. This episode-Amethyst’s character as a whole-hold very special places in my heart. Edit: H-man’s theory might be stronger tho
love getting the full outro song in this finale. i can't think of any other show that has done that with the ending theme, where they give you new bits over time and then finally reveal the whole song. it's super cool and super impactful, left me with chills.
18:06 i SCREAMED when boom suggested that. i still remember when that theory was the laughing stock of all the theories (at least in the areas of the internet i was on)
Rose Quartzes are a type of quartz soldiers, they're in the same category as Jaspers, Amethysts and so on. And they're assigned to the different diamonds courts to fulfil their bodyguard/soldier duties.
Hokey Smokes ! Steven & Amethyst has fused making Smoky Quartz who is voiced by Natasha Lyonne (who also voices Loretta from “Robots”, Merton from “DC League of Super-Pets, & many more), their yo-yo tricks were based on yo-yo master Tom Black's tricks from Cirque du Solei while being a reference to Ness from EarthBound or Killua from HxH, & the gemstone is for cleansing & healing, but also to ward off negativity - The Beta Kindergarten is most likely located in the Grand Canyon - Jasper's corruption may be a reference to Tetsuo Shima's mutation from Akira - When Amethyst while pretending to be Jasper mentions getting a "tan" can be a reference to the real-life phenomena of tenebrescence in minerals where it’s hue temporarily or permanently changes when exposed to UV light - Ruby fusion saying that they wouldn't be trick is a reference to Polyphemus the Cyclops who was tricked by Odysseus in “The Odyssey”, but this isn’t the only Greek reference with the other being when Jasper popped out of the earth with her helmet being Athena who popped out of Zeus’ head
Back when Steven Universe started and was hella popular in highschool and college, all my friends tried to see who they were the most. Apparently I was peridot, and now as an adult I honestly see it.
Now you get to know Earth was originally Pink Diamond's planet, not Blue's as you had previously thought. And it was not just that. If you noticed on the mural representing Pink Diamond, Earth was her only planet (along with the Moon). And all the gems made on Earth were meant to serve Pink Diamond. Since Jasper was made on Earth, Pink was her original Diamond, being then passed down to Yellow after Pink was shattered. And that also means Amethyst would have served Pink Diamond if she had immerged on time and, apparently, Rose was also made on Earth, as she also belonged to her before rebelling. Now, I love all of your theories about what happened. But only on the next seasons you will get to know the all truth. But I'll tell you this... this is perhaps one of the biggest and well-done plots ever made in all western animation I've ever seen.
This is why I love Steven Universe, not just for the worldbuilding and the humor, but mainly for the storytelling. We find out WITH Steven what the truth really is, piece by piece. Jasper's reveal about Pink Diamond being "their" Diamond was one of the wham! episodes of S3. S4 and S5 most likely have the guys screaming at certain episodes here and there.
not everything lmao, with Ruff literally going "So you genuinely think that by the end of the series we're gonna have a peace treaty with the diamonds???" as if it was the most crazed idea he heard of
Just as Mirror Gem/Ocean Gem marked a major shift in this series, the last two episodes of season three portend another shift. (Actually, one could also say that Monster Buddies and An Indirect Kiss were the precursors to that first shift, and "Bismuth" presaged the current shift). At the beginning of season three, there had been speculation about a fourth "Pink Diamond" based on the old Gem Empire insignia. It followed that Rose Quartz's Diamond leader must have been Pink. I wondered whether Rose was Pink Diamond's ace explorer and colonizer, important enough to be granted a Pearl, although a rather defective one (as so described by Jasper), one who was useful to Rose because of her intelligence and technical ability, not for her servant skills. Since Rose was ridiculously OP compared to any other Gem so far, I had come to believe that Rose somehow acquired Pink Diamond's powers. This raised the questions: was Pink Diamond shattered by Rose to get those powers to defend Earth, or had Pink secretly become a double-agent who had to be eliminated by her fellow Diamonds while framing Rose Quartz.
Oh yeah, waaaay more than nine kindergartens. In fact, there's 2. 2 whole kindergartens. Facets are the gem way of organizing land, and have nothing to do with kindergartens, which is why they're specified alongside kindergarten denomination. Now, there might have been eventual plans for a kindergarten in every facet, you can hear the plans for Earth in the Peridot episode "It Could've Been Great," but the rebellion happened first. Also, Steven's had super strength for a while.
I'm reeling from when you-know-who guessed you-know-what this early on 😭(speaking in code to avoid spoiling any other viewers since they've finished the series already with it up on patreon)
The last two episodes really felt like a punch to the gut. Like the whole thing with Rose shattering Pink Diamond right when Steven has gone through a lot while learning about what Rose was like and almost dying in space was so good in terms of the way to end the season but it was an absolute bombshell. Also I stand that Earthlings is one of my favorite episodes during the third season purely cause of the goofy fusion that is Smokey Quartz and just the horrific scene that was Jasper getting corrupted. So good
This one is SO juicy. We learn so much in these episodes that come back to be so so important (or just ARE important in their own right). Almost wish I could forget what happens next lmao
Remember that every one of the Crystal Gems (well, maybe except Bismuth) was once a loyal servant of the Diamonds. Rose managed to create an army that successfully challenged the Homeworld loyalist forces, so Steven doing the same on Homeworld is by no means outside of the realm of possibility.
The features a gem fusion has is dependent on how aligned the hems fusing are For example alexandrite (all three crystal gems) has two mouths. Bevause while garnet and pearl are indifferent to/repulsed by food amethyst loves it and also loves to talk. So they're goals arent aligned and they end up with two of that part. But for smokey, it really might just be because of the weapon she uses.
I don't know if it's ever been confirmed, but the theory is that the closer to 'perfect' a fused pair is, the fewer limbs/extra eyes/etc they have. Smoky has *one* extra limb because Steven and Amethyst are so close to being in sync. Of course the more gems involved, the bigger they are and the more extras they have regardless.
pretty sure the three arms is a thing about synchronicity, gems like opal and sugilite have additional arms/eyes, and alexandrite (being a combination of sugilite and opal) has even MORE arms/mouths/eyes. but as we know, garnet as a fusion: is one of the most stable fusions we know, and has the least additional body parts, almost on par with stevonnie, so its unclear if stevonnie not having additonal body parts is a matter of synchronicity or humanity, but having less extra limbs isn't necessarily exclusive to being organic
14:52 I think the reason Smokey has 3 arms instead of the usual 4, is because the whole idea of Smokey is how you don't have to be perfect, and usually fusions have 4 arms, which fits in with the "norm" but smokey is unperfectly perfect
These last few episodes were such a great ending of season 3. I remember being so gagged at smoky quartz, jasper actually being the perfect soldier, the jasper and ocean jasper fusion, the pink diamond reveal for jasper being her original diamond and being shattered by rose than being blasted off into space. Season 4 has some very interesting stuff as well but lots of filler.
I think Smoky’s 3-armed design is meant to compliment their yo-yo - it gives them additional hinge points to give them greater control of the angles of their shots. Plus you get cool poses like when they announce their name 😎
Some of Steven's feats of strength in certain action things aren't actually just cartoon logic, there are subtle hints throughout the show that even in the universe of the show, steven is very physically strong
I would comment on some of their discussion points, because they are weirdly accurate sometimes (also pretty inaccurate sometimes... just saying lol) but I really don't want to spoil their experience. I hate spoiling shows I like but I just needed to comment about it. When I heard one of the things they said in this episode my jaw dropped lol.
One problem of Rose being of the court of the diamonds, she was a quartz, literally a basic worker. Sapphire was part of BLUE DIAMOND'S COURT, sapphires are high ranking gems because of their future vision. That's also why Garnet has future vision.
they already said it😓. The simple fact that they are commenting on the time in which what was said was said brings attention to the subject and I have already seen about 3 comments doing this
I love how jasper and amythest kind of mirror eachother with how they relate to their kindergarten. Amythest is the only defective quartz of her functional facet, while jasper is the only functional quartz of her defective facet

Also shows in their weapon being a yo-yo, which is also very unconventional.
Such a great design and character.
I think the cutiest thing is how you guys got so worried than relived for Steven
love getting the full outro song in this finale. i can't think of any other show that has done that with the ending theme, where they give you new bits over time and then finally reveal the whole song. it's super cool and super impactful, left me with chills.
Steven & Amethyst has fused making Smoky Quartz who is voiced by Natasha Lyonne (who also voices Loretta from “Robots”, Merton from “DC League of Super-Pets, & many more), their yo-yo tricks were based on yo-yo master Tom Black's tricks from Cirque du Solei while being a reference to Ness from EarthBound or Killua from HxH, & the gemstone is for cleansing & healing, but also to ward off negativity
- The Beta Kindergarten is most likely located in the Grand Canyon
- Jasper's corruption may be a reference to Tetsuo Shima's mutation from Akira
- When Amethyst while pretending to be Jasper mentions getting a "tan" can be a reference to the real-life phenomena of tenebrescence in minerals where it’s hue temporarily or permanently changes when exposed to UV light
- Ruby fusion saying that they wouldn't be trick is a reference to Polyphemus the Cyclops who was tricked by Odysseus in “The Odyssey”, but this isn’t the only Greek reference with the other being when Jasper popped out of the earth with her helmet being Athena who popped out of Zeus’ head
spoilers for those who havent seen the ending but these guys have reacted to them all
18:00 lmao he is so real
Back when Steven Universe started and was hella popular in highschool and college, all my friends tried to see who they were the most. Apparently I was peridot, and now as an adult I honestly see it.
I wish I had a group of friends who liked it 😢
Now you get to know Earth was originally Pink Diamond's planet, not Blue's as you had previously thought.
They watched the all thing on Patron actually, we’re really late on RUclips they already know about the Rose reveal too 😁
@@stolencomment666 have they watched future yet?
This is why I love Steven Universe, not just for the worldbuilding and the humor, but mainly for the storytelling. We find out WITH Steven what the truth really is, piece by piece. Jasper's reveal about Pink Diamond being "their" Diamond was one of the wham! episodes of S3. S4 and S5 most likely have the guys screaming at certain episodes here and there.
The end of season 3 its so good and SO EMOTIONAL I love it so much
"what if Rose was Pink Diamond" bro how tf do you guys predict everything lmao.
not everything lmao, with Ruff literally going "So you genuinely think that by the end of the series we're gonna have a peace treaty with the diamonds???" as if it was the most crazed idea he heard of
well, she's pink and her son/herself is the main character...
I know they don't become a couple, but I just really love Lapis and Peridot's chemistry 💙💚
18:02 BRO NOBODY'S GONNA SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THAT?
I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT
I can't wait to come back to their post-show conversation about Steven's Talk-no-jutsu in his conflict with the diamonds.
NO SPOILERS GANG
theyre already done with the whole series tho
@@khyros_cen1508 oh sick, then spoilers!
That’s pretty much exactly what happened, is it not?
Fusions between different types of gem tend to have extra body parts: The 5-ruby fusion was just a big ruby, but even Garnet has 3 eyes
18:04 Boom totally called it! Crazy. I remember all the theories about that
Ikr, I can not believe he predict it in a second
It was really a good prediction out of nothing, he guessed it in the first series mentions of pink.
I think the 3 arm design is bc they’re “worst gems” so they’re imperfect/asymmetrical inside and out and are better off for it ✨
16:12 yeah jasper she didn't lose all limb enhancers, status and dignity.... she still have one foot of her limb enhancers!
She meant dignity lol, but yeah, technically one limb left
@@jjsstikbotvideos4421 Peridot is very literal to a fault, i an sure that she meant the limb
HOW ARE Y'ALL SO DAMN SMART? Y'all are seriously impressive, well done Boom @ 18:05
17:12 Hman: “What happened to Pink Diamond?”
Hang on tight, guys…..
I'm reeling from when you-know-who guessed you-know-what this early on 😭(speaking in code to avoid spoiling any other viewers since they've finished the series already with it up on patreon)
Watching the discussions on these videos gives me big 2016 SU stan twitter flashbacks and i’m both living and triggered
Lapis and Peridot are my favorite "they said they're not a couple but they're totally a couple" couple.
“and they were roommates..”
The ammount if foreshadow in this discussion is amazing... 😂❤ love you guys
I love how Peridot greeted Amethyst first instead of Steven ❤
For whatever reason, a chisel blade just seems to brutal.
7:30 Steven could probably lift Greg's Van easily with one hand
One of my rules for this show: if Garnet cries, I CRY. (Also when Pearl cries sometimes)
So good
This mf really got the plot twist
This one is SO juicy. We learn so much in these episodes that come back to be so so important (or just ARE important in their own right). Almost wish I could forget what happens next lmao
Rose actually shattered pink diamond after her conversation with bismuth
It looks like she followed bismuth advise after all
Have you finished watching Steven universe ? Iam asking you so I don't spoil for you.
Sorry my English in not really good
@@yasminele7745 they probably have but don’t want to (yk) for the big reveal
Remember that every one of the Crystal Gems (well, maybe except Bismuth) was once a loyal servant of the Diamonds. Rose managed to create an army that successfully challenged the Homeworld loyalist forces, so Steven doing the same on Homeworld is by no means outside of the realm of possibility.
I dont remember the day asking for infinity train
I love how they were right about Pink Diamond this early on with not many clues LOL
bro have future vision man lol 18:00 "so uh... wird theory" ah come on! you knew!
26:31 omfg how did he predict that😭 they literally just found out about her
The features a gem fusion has is dependent on how aligned the hems fusing are
For example alexandrite (all three crystal gems) has two mouths. Bevause while garnet and pearl are indifferent to/repulsed by food amethyst loves it and also loves to talk. So they're goals arent aligned and they end up with two of that part. But for smokey, it really might just be because of the weapon she uses.
facets in gem colonies are just how the planet is divided in locations. Theres only two kindergartens.
Was this Smokey’s first ever time existing?
Yeah
pretty sure the three arms is a thing about synchronicity, gems like opal and sugilite have additional arms/eyes, and alexandrite (being a combination of sugilite and opal) has even MORE arms/mouths/eyes.
but as we know, garnet as a fusion: is one of the most stable fusions we know, and has the least additional body parts, almost on par with stevonnie,
so its unclear if stevonnie not having additonal body parts is a matter of synchronicity or humanity, but having less extra limbs isn't necessarily exclusive to being organic
14:52 I think the reason Smokey has 3 arms instead of the usual 4, is because the whole idea of Smokey is how you don't have to be perfect, and usually fusions have 4 arms, which fits in with the "norm" but smokey is unperfectly perfect
NOBODY SAY NOTHING OKAY. If ya know, ya know that's all imma say.
I literally ran to the comments to make sure everyone was being chill lol

BOOM IS A DIRTY PRE-WATCHER!!!!
18:04 i cant fucking believe this lol
These last few episodes were such a great ending of season 3. I remember being so gagged at smoky quartz, jasper actually being the perfect soldier, the jasper and ocean jasper fusion, the pink diamond reveal for jasper being her original diamond and being shattered by rose than being blasted off into space. Season 4 has some very interesting stuff as well but lots of filler.
Its so cool watching you guys fall in love with the series.
Also oh man, their theories this episode...
It's insane how they JUST heard of pink diamond and their first thought was : " what if rose is pink diamond "
18:05 wow ok.. that's.. a theory
@TheWatcher3-le2vo huh?
My Steven Universe stickers arrived today! Thank you so much, I love them, they're great quality! ❤❤

God damn, prewatching son of a bitch, predicted rose being pink right off the bat 😂
17:33 The first and only bubble Amethyst does on camera in the series
28:04 Also, love this part
