Hitting the control rods actually made the RBMK reactor explode (steam explosion) the control rods had graphite at their tips... Graphite accelerates nuclear reactions. Therefor when the AZ5 button was pressed and all the rods were lowered the reactor when critical and created an hydrogen explosion.
For some reason the explosion in this version was way scarier than it was in the 2019 one, 2019 kind of emphasised the memory and the consequences of such disaster with the blurry slow-motion scene after the explosion. This one was filmed in real time so you really felt like you were one of them.
The 2019 version removed lots of details and deliberately presented the actual explosion event in a very unclear manner in order to play into the court case in the end of the series by delivering the complete context as witness testimony. In this version it's presented very clearly as-is and as close to reality as possible. Both have their merits, this one clearly delivers the precise moment of the explosion as a scene in itself much better.
I preferred when I heard the wish granter, hearing British accents totally threw me out of the game and... well, just didn't fit. Still a good documentary and good acting.

Imagine hearing the voices of the NPP workers along with the voice of a wish granter while you're fighting your way through against the monolithin inside the Sarcophagus.
as if their tone of voice was turned into anomalies,regurgitating their last moments eternally,that would be haunting,but it would sure make the beginning of the last fight much more intense.
yea, i remember this, what an annoying experience, remember rush the interior of CNPP, and it had to be some fuking bad desing or a bug, there were there like 20 or 30 burers, i probably expent like 30 min repeating and repeating again untill i cleaned a big room full of them, only to realize i was out of ammo and still there were tons of monoliths and more burers upstairs

my vote goes to oblivion lost ultimate, way better than original oblivion lost. oorr, if you have a PC for it and can find downloads, oblivion lost 2010
