- Fitting new bearings to the alternator, and then giving it a 'test run' on the bench. Refitting the radiator with new hoses & fan belt, and then flushing out the junk form the cooling system. Repairing the engine shut off solenoid. Searching for chickens, and fitting new engine mounts. Please enjoy!!
Congrats on the 1000 subs! Keep it going!

Woo Hoo! Thank you, Lisa!!! :-)
Congrats on the 1k subs Pete... keep up the good work.
Thanks Bob, will do! :-)
Wow man you are a very good mechanic!!! Congratulations for the 1k subs!!
Thank you very much for your kind words!
More to go but you’ve done an amazing amount to it in a reasonably short time. I bought my place in ‘86 . It’s not rain forest but it’s amazing how fast overgrowth takes place. Congratulations on 1000 👍
Thank you Geoffrey!! A huge lack of interest in gardening doesn't help with the over-growth!! Ha ha.
Pete, frankly I’m concerned, there appears to be around 6 or 7 square inches of under-utilised space on the bench ur overhauling the alternator.
Relieved you found where the chicken noises were coming from.
Thanks for the 'heads up', Sean! I'll relocate a few items to make full use of all real estate!! (Ha ha!!). A couple of years ago, I actually did have a random chicken set up residence in my yard. She was there for about 6 months, and then just disappeared. Found a few eggs around the yard while she was there.......So that's nice!!
Hi Pete. Have you ever thought of getting an Impact driver?. Might help with those screws that don't want to move.
Yep, great idea! I've got one in my toolbox at work (not much use to me there, though). There's usually plenty of other ways around the issue.
@@pete-mate3524 Have you seen the air hammer attachment that takes a driver bit? It has a small handle on it so you can apply torque while it hammers on the screw. From what I've seen of people that have them, it's definitely one of those "rarely used but incredibly useful" tools. Could be worthwhile if found used or on sale. Or from what I've seen, you might just be able to make one if you needed it 😁
Gday from Cooktown Pete- Id subscribe twice if I could! Have you got any Cibie Super Oscar spotlights, floating around by any chance?
Cheers
Thanks for the support!! Only spotties I have are the Ralley 2000 from Hella. But I've kinda got them earmarked for another project. I'll keep an eye out, though.
@@pete-mate3524 cheers mate.

Any updates on that rollpack, I just scored one for 60$ cant figure out how to remove the inber tires..
Hi John, and 'well done' on your bargain priced roller!! I believe there is a short driveshaft between wheel number 2&3 and also 4&5 on the back. (These things are usually broken / missing due to the high levels of torque when steering on bitumen), you need to remove this "jack shaft" to allow access for the wheel to come out. Is this what you are asking? Hope this helps. Good luck with it.
@@pete-mate3524 hmm I didn't see the jackshaft I gotta look again . If I remember correctly the two inner wheels just had a 4in gap and you could break the lug nuts loose but not remove the wheel
Hi Pete, if I have my backhoe with any gear selected, should the drive shaft spin or only spin if it is in neutral?
Hi Mr Retro', it depends on how the transmission is set up. For example, my 580E has the torque converter and shuttle transmission attached to the engine. So, as long as that one is in a mechanical gear, the driveshaft won't spin, even if you engage the F/R lever on the steering column. However, the 580SK has the shuttle transmission built into the mechanical gearbox andthe TC mounted on the engine, so the shaft will spin unless both the gearbox and the shuttle are engaged. I'm not sure what machine you have, so I can't say for certain. Good luck with it, though! 🙂. Happy to help if you have any other questions. 😉.
i've got a 580sk, when i have one gear selected and the f/r is not engaged the drive shaft not spin, is that good or it should spin?
@@retrosymas8580 Uhmm, that doesn't seem right? Does the machine drive, or are you asking because you've lost 'drive' on your machine? Maybe check to 'trans charge' pressure. If it's low, that might be an issue to investigate. I seriously hope it's something small for you and you don't have to do everything I've just done!!!
thanks for the information!
