Both Bands did an Amazing job as well as the Dance teams. The whole game was entertaining, they should do this game every year it was a refreshing start to the season and awesome start to the season, for a first game it started off with a blast!

This was a good 5th Quarter. Sooo glad for variety in the selections and not be rap songed to death lol. Southern's sound is the most balanced I've heard in years. You can hear every part of the arrangements and every section has a full sound. I'm not a huge fan of Alabama State's band, but this is the best they've sounded ever IMO. You can also see the clear identities/styles of the two dance teams as well. For a minute everybody was beginning to look exactly the same.

The thing people forget is that SU has mastered the art of the 5th. And ppl struggle to keep up bc they only have one way to approach a battle. They go up against SU and think the recipe is just to blow til their chops are gone. Southern still practices the old school way of battling. They’ll give you something technical to see if you got it. They’ll pull your ballad card and check your temp. But they showing you clear as day how your book can’t keep up in the process. They may just throw one out there to tire you out. And when they realize you ain’t got it no more, they gonna give you something like “Fein.” Y’all talk about em if it’s too many rap songs. Talk about em if it’s too many R&B songs. I think y’all are missing the word versatility. A very strategic band. And y’all fall for it every single time. Smh

And they’ve bred so many Jukes that atp Doc is no longer with us, but it’s a machine now. Which is why y’all thought it was the end when Jackson left, then Haymer, then Simmons. They don’t stop bruh. I think the difference is arrangements nice job ASU definitely surprised me vey nice rich sound good control. Just want a little more from the arrangements. SU Doing what they do. Very crisp and clean with great arrangements both bands did an excellent job.
That Heaven: Chord Progression was phenomenal, along with harmonies within the chorus. The Dynamics were exceptional and I wish it were a little less power.
Alabama State sounds amazing, their low brass is so strong their trumpets are still catching up. Piercing through a strong low brass is not an easy job. Cannot wait to hear them at the BOTB to see how they’ve progressed. Great 5th quarter.
That’s been an issue with ASU since I marched for the Jukebox in 2005…they’d have one row of trumpets fighting against 10 rows of mid/low brass and the balance was always off. To their credit, it seems like their trumpets came to the fight with a little more amp this year, so good job! Still giving the edge to my school, but this was a very solid showing for the MMH
@brandontipwilson862 I marched 05 too and that was great battle for GCC and I agree. Our low brass was eatin. Too bad SU bones didn't want to battle Funk when challenged. SU bones need some milk. Overall I was entertained and wish we could have this be the official Labor Day match-up every year moving forward.

I'm glad Bama state can make it a lil closer but the versatility of SU goes unmatched!! But Bama state tried to the fullest to hang and I'll give em credit for that but that's where it stops
Both bands have some work to do on learning their music, balancing out their sound, and improving their endurance. It's early in the season, so we will see how things go.
The Juke did well. So happy to see the MMH sound so much. Better. Dolls were beautiful..but some minor mistakes same with the Stings. Wish ASUs dance group would do one song all together cuz it’s 2-3 at any given time moving, which can be a bit much to try and watch who. But overall a great job.
