Excellent video from one of the best. Hands down it's DW for me. Love SA but currently own a DW Specialist commander in duty coat and it's been a gem. Also the Dan Wessons have all tool steel internals and thumb safeties. They use zero mim. For a price point like these models that matters to me. Cannot beat SA lifetime warranty either. Both are great and will out last us all and our kids and grandkids. Really can't go wrong with either. Two phenomenal companies.
Personally, I can’t stand 3 dot sights. Give me a bright front sight and blacked-out rear. Night sights are negligible if a light is used. Both are nice looking pistols that I wouldn’t kick out of my gun safe, but the Dan Wesson looks like the winner.
I'm impressed with your empty gun trigger pull. Rock steady. When mine doesn't lock back , mostly because of my grip hitting the slide release , and I pull on an empty mag. I can really see my flinch.
Love your reviews. I have the TRP and recently bought a TRP Operator. They run great and I’m happy with them both. Looks like I’ll have to snag a DW TCP based on your honest feedback. Off topic slightly, but what kind of hearing protection are you using in the video? Thanks again for your excellent video review. Liked and subscribed.
I pick the DW. 1 better trigger weight and straight. 2 bull barrel with cone lockup. 3 one piece guide rod with flat spring. 4 And most important looks great. Excellent review, thanks, Justin .😊
I disagree, these are 45auto pistols, for Concealed Carry mostly. Large and heavy pistol as it is, I wouldn't add weight or bulk beyond a tac light. The railed frame already adds weight. I don't know that I'd ever find the benefit of an optical on a single stack steel carry 45
Yeah I just got the new emissary black 4.25” and that one isn’t optics ready either, which is a bummer. However I still can see iron sights and shoot them well so it’s ok for now.
@@TheRealZJM377a lot of people. The market is red dot crazy right now. That’s why almost all new guns come optic ready. You don’t have to use an optic if you don’t want to, but it’s good to have the option.

Either one you get, change extractor to a Aftec extractor, I put in a tool less guide rod. I carry it for duty for the last 12 years on patrol. I recently had it milled for a red dot by Vulcan machine werks. Thy did a great job. Only my option of course. Great video.

My first experience with a 1911(Colt Series 70 model) couldn't have been more negative. My first centerfire pistol, it jammed in so many different ways with 400+ rounds that I just got rid of it.
I just got the SA emissary black 4.25” and really like it, except for the plastic trigger. They did the trigger very well for a plastic one but had I known it was so I probably wouldn’t have bought it. As far as those 2 you’re comparing I’d got DW over SA for everything except the full rail trp, because that thing is a beast.
Good review of both and good shooting. Do not own either of those but own two of both brands. My two Springfield’s were both new, range officer target needed a trigger job, ronin was fine. Both very dependable. The two dan Wesson’s were both used and train wrecks. The 2002 point man needed a lot of work to get operational. The 2021 very slightly used valor v-bob needed a lot of rounds thru it to identify and repair the ftf issues. Dan Wesson was of no help but I can see their point that I was not the original purchaser.
Thank you for a fantastic side by side comparison. For their price tag, one would think that they would have optic ready slides. If not, then at least the best iron sights on the market. With that said, I would consider the Ronin and a Kimber over these two.
For me, the only advantage to tritium sights is that in the dark, they help me to locate the pistol and it's orientation while on my nightstand. Night time means there is a light on my defensive pistol. Tritium sights are a non-factor on a pistol with a weapons light. They wash out with the brightness of the weapons light, they are not needed when the lights are turned on and they could give away your position in the dark. The only things I found favorable about the TRP was the 4.25" barrel and the standard guide rod. I truly dislike having to put a doohickey in the guide rod in order to field strip the gun.
As usual Great job. I am a Dan Wesson guy but in this case I like the GI style Guide rod, Hate a plastic trigger and 20 LPI. I also prefer a single thumb safety. Think they are both series 70? Think I have talked my self into the Dan Wesson but in the Classic commander (not shown in this video) All of my Dan Wesson 1911s are fantastic and in this case The TCP strays a little to far from tradition. I do own Springfields and love them once I have the replacement parts installed. Plastic triggers are taking MIM parts to the next level. I don't think my Des have any MIMs.
One concerning difference (to me anyway) is that the DW uses all steel components, whereas the SA uses MIM pieces. From a durability standpoint the DW should last longer. But let's be honest, most people won't wear out MIM parts. I own pistols from both companies, and they're both quality offerings, but the DW is a better "fit" and machined pistol.
Nice subtle way of picking the DW. LoL! Would also be my choice between these two. In the Springfield line, I'd be happy with the commander size Garrison blued, and save a thousand bucks.
I don't have any Dan Wessons, but I do have a TRP Operator in 10mm. I would have to give one a try to tell a preference, but I do have a 10mm Fusion Combat Commander and I much prefer the Fusion trigger over the TRP myself.
I appreciate you saying so. I have kind of given up on the idea of much growth. I don't even get a lot of views on most videos, even ones I think are popular topics. It does make it hard to keep putting in the level of production work that I do - but so far I still enjoy trying to keep improving my output and that is what drives me.
My choices are limited it's either the new kimber dawn, trp or dan wesson. Trp seems to get my vote for life time warranty vs the other 2. Im in California
Good evening, Justin. Happy Thursday to you and your family there. To tell you the truth. After the issue you had with the TRP on your review on it a while back with failure to failure to fire and now with the slide not wanting to lock back. I don't think I would be a buyer on that Springfield
TCP has a true 4 inch barrel with aluminum frame. Easier to carrie. No mim parts. Also DW didnt write a check to a anti 2A lobbyist that Springfield trys to play off.
Both are amazing builds, but imo the DW would be the winner, but pricier. I will always keep a 1911 ish .45acp single stack just because...but if I am purchasing in 2024, it would be a 2011 or similar DS or I would not purchase at all. MAC has a very solid double stack option around $1k up to a Bul-Armory for around $2k... I have never been a fan of a ss 1911 style 9mm....waaaay too many better options available.
What do you mean? I have several Springfield dates back to the late 90s called the champion LOADED stainless steel. I say they are killing the 1911 Market with so many different models
I cannot in good faith believe Wesson is any longer a safe buy. CZ owns Wesson, CZ owns Colt. CZ is either doing nothing to fix Colt intentionally or stupidly. So faith that CZ run Wesson is any good is suspect.
I can't pretend to have any relevant knowledge on this subject, but it is one that is of considerable interest to me. CZUSA was one of the most amazing companies in the industry, not only in terms of products but also incredible staff and industry presence. For months now, I can't even get them to respond to me when I reach out because I have an assignment to review one of the products. All the good people seem to have left the company - by their own will or not, I do not know. I have never been a Colt fan due to their cavalier attitude toward the consumer market - and it seems that when you bring a zombie in from the cold, the expected result occurs.
My slightly used 2021 dw valor v-bob had fail to feeds, dw cz no help or mercy. My new cz po-7, cz found a way to not give me a rebate? Thankfully my other cz’s and my colt were all operational.
CZ owns both, but they are pretty hands off when it comes to running them. They only really invest in equipment and distribute products. DW continues to produce the best production 1911s after having been acquired by CZ in the 2000s.

If you can get ahold of the DW ECP, that would be a better comparison. The ecp is a bobtail
This is gonna be the best head 2 head in a long time 😊
Good comparison as aways.....but the DW for me. Actually for 1/2 the price I would opt for the Bul Armory 191 Stainless Steel Commander
The bul armory line is very good quality.
I like both of the 1911 you tested. But i would choose the DW over the Springfield, because The DW doesn't use any MIM parts.
Exactly there's no comparison for that amount of money no mim parts should be used

Hello Justin. What do you prefer in 1911, 45 ACP or 9mm? And, does it make a difference whether its 5" or 4.25" Commander length barrel?
TRP is loaded with MIM parts and comes with a plastic trigger. Hard Pass. Dan Wesson takes this comparison easily.
Exactly no brainer
