Just to clear this up, because it sounded like you guys misunderstood this, Neroon has not joined up in the fight against the Shadows, he's not part of team B5 or whatever we want to call our heroes. He showed up because the idea of a member of the Religious Caste being put in charge of a martial order offended his sensibilities as a Warrior. All Marcus did was prove to him that, despite his superior fighting skills, he could never inspire such loyalty in the Rangers as Delenn, forcing him to concede he was wrong on this singular point and depart. He isn't joining up or converted though and next time they meet there's no guarantee they'll be on the same side.

Franklin's problem is his addiction to stims was a direct result of his primary addiction. It's the addiction to work that he has to overcome as well as the addiction to stims. That's why he can't go back to medbay to get help with it, from what I can tell. He has to break the pattern of his own actions or the stims will come back on him. And he IS religious. They mention it once or twice that he's something called a Foundationalist. The 'walkabout' (borrowed from the aborigine) is part of their religion.

Re: The Cult - that was just a way to get Garibaldi out of the way so Marcus could be the one dealing with Neroon, otherwise there would be questions as to why security wasn't better (but with him gone there's an excuse). As for Neroon, it was a bit rushed, but it's just setting up that there was tension in Delenn being selected as Ranger 1, Marcus being willing be ended show Neroon that they were fully committed to her in a way that they never would be with him. He's not been won over into joining Delenn, he just recognises the futility of objecting to her appointment.
Re: Franklin - his current arc is similar to Garibaldi in this episode, J. Michael Straczynski had to give him something to do so he went off on walk-about to explain why he's absent.

If the missing floor subplot had been in an earlier episode they could've then had the War Room built in it but even JMS admits that this was not a great episode (He once said it normally takes him a week maximum to write an episode, with great episodes taking less time; Grey 17 took something like three weeks!). It's a shame because the stuff between Marcus and Neroon is pretty good

JMS spoke on episode quality. He mentioned a great episode, and then he said, "and then you have Grey 17." The crowd laughed, and he didn't disagree. It's too bad because there was some significant stuff happening with Marcus and Neroon. Maintenance guy to cop on Fast and Furious. Not bad. Marcus was a newbie. Delenn was much more capable and experienced. Delenn is half Minbari, half human. I'm not sure that helps her. Bullets will fire if they get hot enough, but no, that was a stretch. The Neroon actor played a human member of President Clark's admin (Mr Welles) in "The Fall of Night." John Vickery made the rounds playing other characters including a Klingon and a Cardassian on the Trek side of things.

  • @AllMuscle1

Just a little author trivia, JMS was very ill during this portion of the script writing. He wrote 92 episodes of the 110 episodes of B5, a record that hasn't been broken by any screen writer to this day! He has often spoken about this episode as less than his favorite, but it was a fun setup to coming episodes.

Stims are more like hyped up energy or coffee drinks. Like he said it takes longer to flush out and the recovery is not the same as other drugs with the physical side taking weeks. It is still an addiction (though normally milder than hard drugs or booze) but he is having headaches and being tired. Think of people that you want to avoid until they get a cup of coffee and amp it up 10 fold. It is a B plot that takes a while, give it some time.

the S&W model 15 that garibaldi carries is a double action revolver. Many of them were converted to be DA Only and had the full cock stop ground off and perhaps even much of the hammer spurs for concealed carry However in still shots you can see that the one that garibaldi had does in fact have the hammer present

While the suicide by space monster cult is pretty darn unique, this really would have been better without it. Minus the monster, everything up to the tranq dummy was fine. Then we get the underwhelming monster cult plot and it clunks. Could have used something else in place of it. Hell, even just a more regular cult could have been good, just drop the monster.

Odd episode, one half moves the story along, the other half is a one-off bottle show. Lots of fun though.
Yea, the bullet solution doesn't work in real life - just go with it! LOL
You've seen Naroon before. He was mad that Delenn cremated their leader's body, and he showed up on the Grey council when it should have been a religious member. Love him as a periodic bad guy/foil.
Remember, Franklin is going through withdrawal. Think of an opioid or heroin addict, it takes a while to flush out the drugs and then the body starts to waste as it is missing the drugs. Also, Franklin has been just the doctor, not much else up to now. What would happen if he actually got a personality?
