The old joke is: In bear country wear a bell to let the bears know you're there and so you don't startle them Carry pepper spray to ward off an attack. You can tell which bears are in the area by their scat. Black bear scat is smaller and has seeds from the fruit they eat. Grizzly bear scat is much larger, contains bells and smells of pepper.
I’m in Scotland should I use my gear around so many midge flies is it worth the risk of ruining your gear if they get in somewhere in lens or camera as they’re so small
Haha Gavin I've binge watched your vids for the last week. You're like the Keith Lemon of photography and I love it. You and Amanda are quality together. I don't even do landscape photography but I can't stop watching. Best wishes from the North west UK 👍🤣
Your videos are absolutely brilliant! Hilarious, witty, authentic and you learn something about photography. Adam is pretty good too. Your channel deserves at least a few million subscribers!
Absolutely fantastic - or should I say 'tressmendous'. So funny, and what a wonderful story telling hike and video. As for the beauty of the landscape and the images - glorious. Amanda is a delight. Such a funny and good-natured lady. You two are such a great team. I just love this video. Thanks guys. As for those bastard midges, not only could we see them buzzing around you, we could hear them too! I love your technique for dealing with them ... hilarious but effective.
Oh god, you and your wife is so funny. Like other's have commented, i can't believe i haven't found your channel before now! This is absolutely gold, and i am learning so much!
Brilliant! You covered every range of emotion here. Fear for your lives, breathtaking beauty of the scene and your images, some very useful tips, hilarity, entertainment, romance.....I’m exhausted! Mostly with watching out for bears.
Came back from the mountains myself, saw no new fototripper video and uttered a big, long "NOOOO". One day this absolute gem popped up. Fantastic work, Gavin. I feel like you're really upping your game
Loving your vlogs Gavin . I would watch even if i did not do photography , just for the entertainment value alone . Definitely a better duo for screen than some on tv at present . Keep em comin !!
Thanks for the tip on the “Wave of Hatred”, lol!! Very technical term. 😂 You can use that same tip in Colorado. The mosquitoes are brutal there as well.
Nice composition move on the three verticals laced together.....the foreground peninsula also helped your quest to make it interesting. Amanda is a true saint with her patience....
I think you're hilarious and very witty. You deserve many more followers! Keep it up, you're a gem and a very "fresh" landscape photographer (others are so very sensible and introverted and musing (like me) that you stand in stark contrast!).
Great video Gavin with truly top photography tips, particularly the one regarding the „pano-sandwich“! I have to point out that as far as mosquito nets go I am way ahead of you. Mine is much bigger and goes all the way down to my waist! I had it custom made when I was doing my military service and had to stand guard in a mosquito infested swamp every night. The officers weren’t too happy though.
Just come across your channel, so been catching up on a few older vids. Absolutely brilliant, love the humour and info you give. Probably my fav channel now.
I simply love your videos. They are funny aaaaaaaaand informative! Thank you very much for all the laughs i had watching your videos! You are the best!
Great video and awesome to see you out doing your amazing work again. I hope this helps me in 3 weeks when I go to Yellowstone and grand Teton. Terrific beer choice too and she sounded just like my wife cause she hates beer too.
EPIC : Some much to say about this video, perhaps I'll just make a list 1. Great choice of beverage .. Slainte Mo Chara 2. seems there wasn't as much as a flinch when the big M was mentioned 3. Perhaps a triple H would be more suited to the passion wagon.. Hardcastles Happy Hotel 4. Did I mention great choice of Beverage ? 5. The inventions that will come from this trip may indeed resemble some actually useful ideas 6. The little touches are what makes the difference , in fact the award winning burb might just appear as a sound effect on epidemic sound soon 7. The wide comp of the A roll camera in the first reflection screen was outstanding but the image at the end sublime 8. ohh and did I mention the choice of beverage, I bet the mornings fragrances are going to be a big part of shared living for the next few weeks :-) 9. Ive often thought myself about the obliteration of mossies and if it would have any effect, no doubt it would but I'm willing to take the consequences 10. The wave of hatred is just pure gift ..
Brilliant photos and great to watch, midge net essential head wear in Scotland last week also and its true you just can't see when wearing them. A tip for you to try, Avon Skin So Soft works well at keeping midge at bay along with the net of course.🙂👍🦟🦟🦟🦟
I just started watching your videos a few weeks ago. You two are hilarious & all the while teaching your photography. Gavin you are witty & Amanda is such a good sport. You have a wonderful way of teaching, thank you. (My husband doesn’t think it is all so funny but he also doesn’t do photography)
Loved this trip. Amanda, you are the best. Great advice for this type of shot. I am waiting for delivery of a canon 17-40mm f4. Can't wait to try something like this out. I live in Herefordshire in the UK so no mosquito's here. What you need is a hand held battery operated travel fan. Clip it onto the tripod or near as with a flexible arm in front of the lens and no more having to wave your hand about. Especially when you need to run away from casting your own shadow, unless you have got 10 foot long arms LOL. I love you you guys.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos, Gavin (....and also Amanda of course) !!! Keep on making them like this. I love your sense of humor and your tips on photography. Thank you so much....!!!
Great job Gavin, awesome images as always and very entertaining, I had a problem with bugs in my Absolutely Glorious video, I think you would enjoy the colourful language. Thanks for sharing.
Gavin wheezing like an asthmatic in a spring wind storm, Amanda bouncing along beside him with not so much as her mouth open. That's how I knew you forgot to secret the Guinness cans into Amanda's pack. Amateur yet entertaining.
Funny, good photography and lot's to laugh about - well done as usual! Gorgeous scenery - I am glad I was there once when the moskitos were not in season yet...
There was some great information and education supplied here Gavin, oh and some photo tips too!. I think you need to get some tighter pants and outerwear though, there looked to be a bit of room left as the seems were ripping yet... don't worry, I have that same infliction though so you are in good company. Thanks for another wonderful video!
I did that stroll last summer! It's an excellent and not too hard to get to spot. There's a waterfall at the back end of the lake that I think has potential, there's a big rock wall with several cracks that point right to it that could be interesting. There's also a fork in the exit river at the lake that points straight at Commonwealth Peak that is worth consideration. Unfortunately there wasn't a single cloud in the sky so I got skunked. Fun fact: the small mounds in the meadows up there are from a grizzly digging up tubers many years ago. They dig a paw in, overturn the topsoil then chow down. Take a step, repeat.
I am surprised I did not see a leveling base under your head . If you want lite for hiking look a Kirk, or Leofoto about 6 oz. Enjoyed your entertainment as usual and tips. Thanks
Another great vlog. The Canadian Rockies are simply jaw -dropping. You just nailed those shots, man. Entertainer. Teacher. Great guy. Gorgeous work. Oh. For sure. There are definitely bears up there. Gavin? You now are a bear. Amanda? More berries. Fewer nuts. We need to keep him moving!
Loved the vlog Amanda & Gavin. Living in Florida I know that mosquitoes can drive you mad plus we have "Love-bugs" they are equally annoying but don't bite. You have ruined my thesis on Guinness and its powers as a mosquito repellent. A name suggestion for the camper should be " Amandas Love Shack" cue music.
Five stars for over the top giggles. Amanda must have crawled into the truck within ten minutes of waking up. She sounded like she'd been sucking helium. Ew, skeeters! You two are getting awesomer. :)
Awesome video Gavin. Amanda must feel so lucky eh. Lol. Next time just be honest and say let's go to bug land and bear banquet valley, and sit in a swamp. He hee. I live a couple hours from there. Think ill have to go find that view. Thanks for entertaining us. Very nipplishus pics!
Great tip from Ena Sharples there - lowering the camera to exclude extraneous vegetation. I'm off to the Dolomites for 3 weeks in September and that is an invaluable tip I'll put to good use (if I can find any water in the stony wasteland) !

Ba boom
😅👌I hear that in Attenboroughs voice in my head😅😂
Goddamnit, I laughed! Thank you!
"Its so gorgeous!" bloody hilarious, definitly worth keeping.
I know this isn't a poll, but Hardcastle Hotel is perfect.
Entertaining as usual. Actually, the Lord Hardcastle Motor Lodge has a nice ring to it. I'd like to hear Amanda refer to you as "my Lord."
I nominate "The Hard Castle"

Pure Hardcastle + Amanda GOLD!!
I love the munching sound when you two scoff. Straight out of a 1970's cartoon :-)

That is one frozen lass 😊 The comerciall says "Guiness give you strength" so I think it is very appropriate to bring the Guiness on the hike.
This. Is. THE BEST VIDEO! I love the banter and the dynamic in this one. Transmendous!!! Gorgeous views!
Amanda is so beautiful, lucky you, Gavin. She looks like Helen Hunt but prettier.
