Leon Kroll: The American Painter of Figures, Landscapes, and Public Art
Leon Kroll was a renowned American painter famous for his skill in portraying figures, landscapes, and still lifes. Born in New York, he studied art in both New York and Paris, perfecting his figurative style. Kroll's work was featured in the historic 1913 Armory Show, which introduced modern art to the United States. He also created murals for public buildings like the Department of Justice and designed a mosaic for the Normandy American Cemetery chapel. His long career earned him many honors, including being named a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor in 1950.
