- Climbing Film (2005) Bachar; The Man, the Myth, the Legend. Directed by Michael Reardon. A biography of John including interviews with Bob Kamps, Dave Schultz, Peter Croft, John Long, and of course, the man himself.
John Bachar came to Granite Arch climbing gym in 2008 and gave an amazing talk. He was a super nice guy and talked with me for about 20 to 30 minutes before his talk. I had just got into climbing, but he was so kind to spend his time with me. I will never forget the impact he had on me. I still climb to this day. The following year he died. I was crushed. He was super strong and bold. He gave a lot to the climbing community we will never forget. Thank you John! You will never be forgotten.
Stoked this is available to watch here, Bachar is a legend. Reardon is a free soloing legend in his own right, he passed me 100s of ft off the deck many a time at Tahquitz. RIP to both of them.
This was.a real trip down memory lane.I lived down the street from John ,late 1980's and early 1990's.Ethics and style meant everything to him.I think he was greatly misunderstood. It would be such a joy to watch him do 3 or 4 climbs solo, while my friends and I,roped up,would do one.He was.incredibly smooth, and precise in his climbing.
It’s just so sad that Bachar didn’t live to see Honnold grow to be the legend he’s become I can’t even imagine what he would think of Alex soloing Half Dome much less the Captain rip John
Very good documentary. Was excited myself about getting into climbing but a tendon injury stopped that. Bachar is legend.
Huge thumbs up. I've wanted to watch this for years. Never saw it anywhere else until now. Met JB briefly at the slc outdoor retailer show like 30 years ago during his days with Verve?

Thank you so much. I have wanted to see this film since I started climbing almost 10 years ago.
he was the man.
I loved the bit were Bob Kamps refers to lead climbing as "climbing" as opposed to bouldering. Take that boulder-bros ;)
He is so right. Climbing from the ground up. Rapping dowm a route to fugure it out just isn't right. Over bolting snd 'making routes accessable' is an absolute travesty
wow
