    Thank you sir so much for making this video and sharing the history...I've only made it to 4:49 so far and have paused it probably 9 times to look at everything lmao...it's time frozen still and is in gorgeous shape. Thank you for picking up the flag and showing the stitching and showing the detail to it shows a lot about your character placing it in the chair as well, I sub'd and gave a thumbs up sir, I'm sure that was an experience to remember seeing that in person.

    This is a really great example of why those with any cash to spare should invest in gold coins or bars - all manmade currencies lose their entire value after only a short period of time, whilst gold is always valuable.

    Ahh, I see that you did count the stars. We had 37 states circa 1867 to 1877. That's amazing and might indicate that the inhabitants of the home - or their family - were here long before the Nazis took power. What a beautiful home! I love the deep window alcoves and the beautiful bedroom wallpaper! Also love the built-in cupboards/closets, & the matching red velvet chairs/couch! The furniture looks Victorian, as does the house (what I can see.) Even the radiator is beautiful! Such attention to detail! I'd love to see more, btw! Just beautiful! Oh, the organ definitely looks older than 1920s, to me.

    • @AbandonedNorthJersey
      @AbandonedNorthJersey  7 лет назад +1

      The family that owned that flag are most likely direct descendants of Northern NJ first settlers .It seems more vicky because it was renovated several times before 1940 .Some areas are untouched from 1700s .A scene right out of Bodie California !

    • @Fuzzamajumula
      @Fuzzamajumula 7 лет назад

      Ah, okay. Then I'm still wondering about the German/Jewish connection. I guess they could still be German Jews who emigrated in the Eighteenth Century. And yeah, the low ceilings indicated an older home, but I'm pretty sure that the glorious radiator was added later. I don't think they were used in the 1700s - certainly not that ornate.

    ok... this video won me over and I subscribed!! you picked up our flag off that floor. Thank you. I'm amazed at the pristine condition everything is. The furniture awesome. The money even more awesome. My heart lept out with excitement!!! The first video of this room I noticed a white dress draped over a pile of things, was that a wedding dress? do you think someone pulled it out of one of those boxes? anyways, if I was there... I'd still be sitting there going thru the pictures, letters and everything else. lol. great find.

    Thank you for your fast answer - i just realized a little bit later after posting my comment - sorry..! I wonder very often, that even valuable things dont get stolen out of these abandoned places - the nice blue peacock-feather-effect vase could realize something in the range of 250$...if there is a signature (might even be a "Tiffany"?..) even more...
    Next time i'd like to accompaign you as a consultant..

      It is very rare to find places like this one . It was abandoned from 1900 till 1925 and some of the heirlooms are from the original family that lived in the house from 1700`s till 1900 .The owner of this house died at age 103 and it might be demolished or renovated soon . That vase is Stueben and is indeed valued in the hundreds. There is also a vase with a depiction of something historic or military from early 1800`s but it is stuck to the shelf as if it where glued .I might go back with a 20 mp camera and a 1500 lumen light .

      @@AbandonedNorthJersey thank you very much for your precise answers - i did not even expected this. Sorry by the way for my little english, i am no very used to wright, but i can understand quite a lot... My main languages are (swiss)-german, french and some italian.
      I live in Switzerland and bear my live as antique dealer, even though the buisness became much lower in the last few jears. I have my own shop and do the most important markets and fairs, outside and in different covered markets. I am specialised on small objects as silver, china, jewellery and collectors items as bronzes, figures, but i do furniture, carpets and paintings as well.
      When i see some of the interresting objects in your videos i often ask myself, if i could resist taking "souvenirs" with me..?!
      I think, i'd try find the owner and buy the good stuff out..!
      Whenever you research for more precise informations for stuff, plaese dont hesitate to ask me - i would love to answer you & tell you as much as i now about!

      That place has all of the above mentioned . I even saw a painted tin can of flax thread circa 1840`s never opened amidst a debris field of shaving razors and bloodletting kits in leather cases in the attic .In the 1980`s and earlier I found many places like this historic home that had original furnishings and proper relics but they are very hard to find unless I travel into the country in 2019 .

    I am a sub. You find the most fabulous sites. My only complaint is the camera is all wobbly and often not in focus. Hard to see what is important to see. Lighting is often too bright. I do have concerns also about the fact there's little respect for what you find. Meaning: return things as you find them. That's the "rule" of etiquette I believe.
    This a very cool find. Lots of history including the house. Furniture is in impeccable shape. REALLY ENJOYED!

    As @Johan van Gelderen pointed out, the letter dates to 1933, not 1913. 1000 Reichsmark in paper money would be worth about 5 Euros today. If you had it in gold coinage, it would have been 60,000 Euros (tough luck...) The notepaper is a letterhead from a private hotel, or "pension" in Tel Aviv. The books by Maximilian Delphinus Berlitz are available in reprint - if you are a VERY elderly German-speaking individual who would like to learn Edwardian English, that's your course :)

    • @AbandonedNorthJersey

      LOL ! I know right ? I can get crisp bills in great shape for maybe 5 us dollars . A very old friend of mine was stationed at check point Charlie for a stint and came home with sack of bills with swastikas on them . Never used on some . No value and a shock to me .US paper money can be costly .

    • @acre64
      @acre64 7 лет назад +3

      These bills are not reichsmark(1924)but goldmark,these bills were worth alot before 1914 when hyperinflation began,2790 goldmark was 1kg gold.
      Look them up,some might be rare and still be worth something.

    Have you taken any thing to be appraised? Could the money still be of any value?

  • @ObsoleteOddity
    @ObsoleteOddity 7 лет назад

    Very interesting, someone stashing German banknotes in there; and probably dying without anyone else knowing about. You said the note was dated 1910, well at that time the value of 1000 Mark was worth £50 pounds; and that's a quite a lot of money back then - after the outbreak of World War 1, the value was practically wiped out. These type of things leave my thirsty curious about who put them there...well he or she certainly didn't come back for them.

    wow now thats a treasure trove; specially that flag. Must be worth a lot to a museum. And all that furniture and money to antique collector. Wonder who own this place. Why wont let any one take care of those valuable pieces of history ? gosh!!! what a shame. i always wonder how in the world you find these amazing places right by the roadside. Do you think if you inform some authority about the flag that they will come and rescue the whole place? awesome video .. take care.

    I appreciate the video its 14+ mins. long and you spend 5 mins. enthralled by a dusty ass mattress much more interesting things like the organ the flag and all the other antiques you spend a few seconds on and then you go back to that dusty ass mattress I was just rooting for Freddy Kruger to reach out and touch you have a good day.

    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physharmonica
    I learned to play accordion and organ as a child so this caught my eye immediately. Its manufactured in Germany which is in keeping with what you discovered about this fellow. Physharmonica.

    The "foot powered organ" is called a Melodeon which is a precursor version of the later upright pump organs. It is a empire style case from the looks of the legs.The right pedal pumps the air bellows, and the left one was the swell to open the reeds inside. It is not from the 1920's but in fact probably pre Civil War era. Which would be from the 1840's to the 1860's. Need to know more just ask :) Oh. Here is an example of a playable melodeon. Link:

      Its plain and that would explain the lack of ornaments . Pre Victorian maybe . I think your right .It has probably been in that house all its life . There is a mug in that room on a shelf with political figures in full military regalia that looks around 1830s or 40s . Its over the Satsuma vase in a different vyd. Thaks for the info . The pedals do have a very old styled look .

    you'd have to count the stars to see how old the flag actually is. If it was 150 years old, it would be really falling apart or full of moth holes. The Simmons Beauty Rest Mattress says it cost $39.99. Maybe from the 40's or 50's??? Heck i still have my wonderful Spring Air Mattress from the very early 1960's and i love it!

    • @AbandonedNorthJersey
      @AbandonedNorthJersey  7 лет назад +2

      I did and thats why I know how old it is .It is not 150 years old it is from 1880s as it was most likely stored somewhere dry and free of moisture as the place was officially left to rot only 10 years ago and the upper floors have not been slept in since the early 1950s .What about all the upholstered chairs ? They do not have holes in them either .I would date the mattress to around 1925-35 .They where built to last .Thank you for watchin
