With higher attack speeds, yoyos get a buff in their acceleration, velocity, and range. In older versions of Terraria, some yoyos could even glitch out if total attack speed was high enough, making them useless.
Every time I hear "older versions of Terraria" I think of 1.1, when yoyos didn't even exist. My first 1.4 experience was 1.4.2, so the Empress of Light was around, but on PS3 I still am on 1.3, before the Moon Lord existed.

They should have some sort of special effect for thr Starlight if you reach a high enough Melee Speed bonus with it, since it's basically the MUDAMUDAMUDA of swords XD
This is what i love about terraria and it's armour, accessories and weapons. you don't have to always go for a linear upgrade path, rather trying out some wacky combinations involving the maxing out of certain abilities. stuff like melee speed, movement speed, weapon class damage, defence, damage reduction, dodge chance, and regeneration. usually, I sacrifice one or two accessories for important mobility like wings but it's still not that far from maximum potential! and I can't lie, juggling enemies with a max melee speed build is certainly a satisfying experience!
You can also forgo all movement and defensive accessories for mounts that grant infinite flight like the witch's broom. I literally did that be slapping all the summoner damage I could to fight the daytime empress

My Celestial Starboard and Terraspark Boots are on my Warrior Loadout, because having a Rod of Harmony and Witch's Broomstick is a okay substitute that's justified by 10 minions and 4 Sentries with a 285% damage without food or potions.
I know it would be completely and utterly unbalanced, but i wish that attack speed buffs weren't for the most part completely excluded to melee weapons. I think it would be hilarious to see just how broken some weapons from the magic and ranged classes end up with a bunch of attack speed bonuses.
The funniest part is, the terra blade actually got nerfed, reducing its benefit from speed buffs by 25%, but its still insane! EDIT: It also seems the whip attack speed bonus was changed to only apply on whips in 1.4.4. The curse of still playing 1.4.3 tmod I guess haha!
The zenith does gain benefits from attack speed, it swings the "zenith" part of the zenith more. Though it just acts as a boring damage increase than the speedy zenith we all wanted it to be.
you can actually increase melee speed even more with "whip stacking" effects with the snapthorn, durendal and dark harvest to apply their buffs of jungle's fury for 20% more speed, durendal's blessing for 35% more speed and harvest time for 50% more melee speed for a big boy number of 105% more melee speed, incredible
It's very disappointing flairs and other MELEE weapons don't recieve the bonus. I was just waiting through the video to see if the Flairon would recieve a bonus to be let down. Great video keep it up!
I don’t see how speed for terrablade is better than dmg. Optimal you should have damage and speed the same. For example in accessory reforges you could have +28% damage or +28% speed which would both increase dps by 28% but having 12% speed AND 16% damage would give even more dps. The math would be: 1.12*1.16 ≈ 1.3 So now it’s +30% dps which isn’t much more but you also have to add armor and every speed or damage buff to the calculations and then you’ll realize that dps is the highest when speed% = damage%. When x + y = constant And x * y = highest achievable number, then x = y. Basically I’m saying that a cube has the highest volume/surface ratio. This sweet spot can of course alter considering the difference in all your enemies defense. Sadly now damage is actually better for terrablade since speed buffs only count 75% for the sword after the recent nerf. I personally don’t agree with the reasoning behind that nerf bc why should it’s dps not double with +100% attack speed? Like every other sword does in fact double true melee damage with double melee speed. They nerfed it bc of all these recent videos of the terrablade being fast. They completely forgot that every other sword in the game does the same for true melee damage. I mean of course the terrablade is going to be good when ultraboosting it into oblivion. Guess what. Damage% had actually even more efficiency in boosting dps. That’s no reason to only take 75% of melee damage. “Ohh wow i never thought that the wooden sword is double as good with double attack speed🤡🤡🤡 let’s nerf it” as much as i love the devs i gotta admit that they aren’t the smartest game designers. when you mentioned a rapid flairon it reminded me of the good old days on the xbox one where quickswapping while using the vortex beater would rapid fire any projectile weapon you switched to(it also ignored summon slots) meaning that you could kill moonlord in about two seconds by mixing it with the flairon
Personally I use a mix of Violent and Lucky modifiers on my accessories as my belief is that attack speed makes higher critical rate so much better. My accessories would be Warrior Emblem, Fire Gauntlet, Mechanical Glove, Celestial Shell, and Eye of the Golem. On expert and master I include the Destroyer Emblem and either the Avenger Emblem or the Power Glove. This was my setup before the Zenith came into the picture, and it has served me well as a boss destroyer. Full effectiveness comes from close range swinging with your blade rather than the projectile it might have

As for the question at the end for Flarion, 1.3 Console had an insane glitch with the Vortex Beater, by using the D-Pad quick select starting from VB to different Melee weapons, you could use them at super speed. You can look up 1.3 Console Vortex Beater glitch and find many examples Correction: This works with many weapons other than Melee
I actually challenged my self to spin two wheels, one for class, the other for stat to stick on. Which is funny cuz I got melee speed/mage on my first play I definitely recommend trying it. My best run is when I got movement speed/range, a very fun and challenging experience for those who doesn't like using mods like me.
I think a max knockback build with the Arkhalis would make the player nearly invincible against non projectile enemies, since that sword's speed is already absurdly ridiculous by default..
I used to build my melee dps with melee speed and critical rate over raw damage. Terra Blade was extremely fun to use it with. The old projectiles it fired before the melee overhaul being rather tame in terms of damage, but when I got close and use the blade itself the dps was bonkers. I love close range melee lmao
Sky Dragon's Fury's secondary attack is amazing with this. Also, since almost the entire build is pre-moon lord, you can absolutely shred pillars with terra blade and sly dragons fury combo

It does that by having all sides same long. This rule can also be applied to speed, damage and crit chance. Having all these three stats balanced in the sweet spot is the key to massive dps
Prior to 1.4 Fetid Baghnakhs could be pushed to the speed of 60 attacks/sec. It's literally EVERY frame. Character using it doesn't even swing but just holds the sprite above the head :). Used to farm Golem with friend using this tool of annihilation. Boxed in 10x10 cage, stabilized by double hook at the Golem's head (it had to be all the gloves accessories, no shield to negate knockback), winning DPS race with the boss. My buddy was like "Hey, I can't keep up with you throwing new power cells!" Claws go BRRRRRRRR

My friend played this last year in our annual terraria playtrough. He did some good dps but was really squishy so my mobile mage build had to carry us when killing the moonlord.
My current set is solar with valhalla legs, berserker glove, hero shield, frozen shield, ankh shield, worm scarf and brain of confusion, all on warden, using betsy sword(still struggling with getting the meowmere and, for some reason, the horseman blade)

I love playing a high-defense summoner with magic and ranged to actively partake in combat. DPS ends up kinda mid but i can take the heat since I'm often solo.
Meelee Speed can even increase Whip Speed, but it's impractical as a Warrior and a Summoner focuses on Damage more, as Minions and Sentries are not affected by Speed Modifiers.
i could be wrong but with high attack speed on the zenith, it just makes it more common to see a zenith than the other swords. i don't know if the zenith peojectile does more damage then the rest of the swords it usually fires out.

I've tested to maximize melee speed on the terrablade before the 1.4.4 update and that was my favorite weapon. The old projectile animation was so satisfying even if the new one is cool too. Not hard tested yet but my first impression with this build 100% (6x4%=+24% bonus) melee speed boost "from the accessories random modifiers" is not the better damage deal. It's better i guess to find a compromise with the criticals damages bonus at a certain point.

My current set is solar with valhalla legs, berserker glove, hero shield, frozen shield, ankh shield, worm scarf and brain of confusion, all on warden, using betsy sword(still struggling with getting the meowmere and, for some reason, the horseman blade)
So this is why Calamity is nerfing all melee speed bonuses in their upcoming update...

I love playing a high-defense summoner with magic and ranged to actively partake in combat. DPS ends up kinda mid but i can take the heat since I'm often solo.
So if it is ridiculous as it looks then you can get the full insane attack speed alongside the terrablade. sounds fantastic.
Meelee Speed can even increase Whip Speed, but it's impractical as a Warrior and a Summoner focuses on Damage more, as Minions and Sentries are not affected by Speed Modifiers.

i could be wrong but with high attack speed on the zenith, it just makes it more common to see a zenith than the other swords. i don't know if the zenith peojectile does more damage then the rest of the swords it usually fires out.
The starlight must be an absolutely insane weapon with this attack speed
Sadly not😢 but don’t be fooled. Speed is still as good as damage. Damage often even better. Can show the math behind it if you want

@@peterpumpkineater6928 It's a trait that somes lances have since 1.4.4, they now have an aura which become bigger with more attack speed

@@peterpumpkineater6928 ah and when I mean lances, I meant spears. So examples are the Dark Lance or Gungnir, they both have a kind of aura of shockwave at the end (that's how the wiki says it) which scale with attack speed

I've tested to maximize melee speed on the terrablade before the 1.4.4 update and that was my favorite weapon. The old projectile animation was so satisfying even if the new one is cool too.
Not hard tested yet but my first impression with this build 100% (6x4%=+24% bonus) melee speed boost "from the accessories random modifiers" is not the better damage deal. It's better i guess to find a compromise with the criticals damages bonus at a certain point.
I did this in legendary mode but quickly realized that things like the flying dragon and daybreak are nearly unaffected by it.
Well daybreak is not unaffected. It’s just not the effect you wanted to occur. Daybreaks projectiles gain velocity with melee speed.
i played a multiplayer run where i was a glass cannon ranger and my partner was a melee tank and it was the best
I love being a glass cannon summoner
I enjoy nuking players on servers with a max melee speed flower pow, it’s such a fun gimmick
You could also be an invincibility glitch abusing summoner
