What I love about the Blink 182 reunion single is it actually addresses everything and has all of them holding up their hands about how we can drift as friends.
It’s real life, it’s mature, and it’s absolutely heart-wrenchingly beautiful.
It hit me straight in the feels as soon as I heard it- tears in my eyes as I type this. Gorgeous track and so great to see the boys together and Mark back to better health :)

I was really impressed by the new Blink song. Blink 182 are great artists and always have been. Their problem is that they started out doing a lot of comedy so most critics refuse to take them seriously, but Travis is a top level drummer and Tom and Mark are extremely good melody writers. Blink have dozens of catchy songs. At a certain point their talent just cannot be denied.

It's really interesting how they're calling back so heavily to their biggest emotional songs in Adam's Song, Stay Together for the Kids, Always, and Miss you, but not rehashing them. In particular miss you, you could sing a parts of that song to the instrumentals in this and it would be fairly close. However this is more evolving those sounds and feelings in a way that feels....very genuine. And shows that they've finally gotten to where Tom wanted them to go when he made Angels and Airwaves. A lot of their songs can sort of be about whomever you want, especially the love songs. They're often non specific, this is highly specific to each member of the band. Almost like you're intruding on something a little bit, they opened their hearts to each other and we are almost accidentally seeing it. Also very much had a feel like...Wiz Khalifa's song with Charlie Puth "See You Again", that they didn't want one of them to be gone and the remaining members have to make that song for their lost friend.

I’ve been wondering , do you find the analysis you do of various music helpful or a hindrance to your original music and song writing. since on one hand it provides a wide and different perspective, but its possible it can also fixate you on what you heard and go beyond an influence and affect your originality.

They sound healthier. It's missing a lot of pomp that they usually have, but you can tell just how much they've grown. Like no real big dynamic changes, a simpler drum beat introduced half way through; there's not even that bite in the vocals that songs like "I miss you" had. Yet starting early with a keyboard part (in an opposite fashion to Adam's song,) a recontextualized "I miss you" (maybe even a callback to Where are you as well?,) and the lyrics really make for a memorial for the time they missed apart. The video itself feels like their own personal "Hurt," with the obvious callbacks.
With time brings understanding it seems. And I'm here for it.

I'll be honest, I didn't really listent to Blink after their first comeback, I've heard the occasional song but I guess I moved on, but put Take Off Your Pants and Jacket on, or anything I grew up with at school and i'm 14 again. This song had me in tears so I guess they mean more to me than i realised.

I would love to see your reaction to Kvelertak´s latest single "Endling" from their new album with the same name of the song (it means "the ending" in Norwegian). I saw them live just a couple of days ago and they´re absolutely fantastic! I hope that you also give their album a listen! A big hug from Norway, keep being awesome!

Justin, mate, I was waiting to hear your thoughts on the VERY heavy (and unnecessary) use of autotune on Tom and Mark's voice tracks. I particularly think it doesn't sound great especially when they harmonise towards the end and would be better without it. What are your opinions on the autotune?

I'm actually a bit surprised you didn't address the elephant in the room? I mean, it's a great song but the way it's mixed is ridiculous. The auto-tune they are using on the vocals is off the charts. In the chorus it even malfunctions like it did in "life after love - Cher". I just wonder why they didn't try and level it out or something instead of boosting it.

I love me a little ghost notey brush work. 🤣 Yes, I definitely here some little layers going on in there. F# Droning no doubt. Very tasty voicings indeed. Is it me or is their a lot of auto tune going on in here? Either that or there's so many vocal stacks it sounds like natural chorusing or rubbing. Works either way no doubt. Weird to think I played with these guys back in the 90's. Nice to know some SD bands made it.

If you study the guitarists (tom delonge) playing among all of his songs, he likes to use variations of power chords. This song feels like something written by tom for the guitarists out there that started play or are inspired by blink.

Justin, Blink 182 released albums in 2016 and 2019 without Tom Delonge. 2012 was the last time Tom was in a Blink 182 record. Matt Skiba (of Alkaline Trio fame) was part of Blink 182 for this time.

I'm what I call a "Punk light" fan so Offspring, Sum41, Blink182, etc. have been music I've been listening too for many years.. However, I prefer the genre to be performed by young people, it just seems more correct with the high energy and FU attitude.. I still listen to the music today, now that I'm older and I enjoy the nostalgic feeling about punk music.. Reminds me of careless times. I think I would have wished bands like Sum41 and Blink182 would have reinvented themselves bit more than just these "punk light" songs they've always been known for. I find it to be out of place, honestly.. But that just me, I guess.
