Question for y'all: if you live in a 10rd state, is it worth getting a 2011 or just sticking with a 9mm 1911? Are 2011s more modern and better? Or can you get a good 10 rd 9mm 1911 for cheaper?
You might as well stick with a 1911 that can use 9-10 rounds, a 1911 is the 10 round state compliant 2011, it would be redundant to modify the magazine to hold 10 instead of 17-20, since it already exists. Define Modern and Better? Its already extremely accurate and still has the best trigger even after 100 years later. The 10 round state you live in is the biggest issue you have with acquiring "Better" guns, better meaning more of the same.
Good question. Definitely not worth getting a 2011 if you can only use 10rd mags. Check out the Springfield Ronin. They chamber it in 9mm, 45 and 10mm I believe. Rock Island armory is good too.

The V3 Staccatos have external extractors, aluminum trigger shoe, and I just checked my compact grip C with a 17 round mag, it won’t over-insert. The grip is thinner and with my med-large hands I can reach the mag release without fully rotating the pistol in my hand. Downside is there aren’t 20/21 round mags far less 26/27 rounders for them yet and there are new mags which are 9mm specific (which is a plus but then you have to buy all new mags). They stop at the 4” C with full size grip for now but rumor is they’ll be changing the other models to V3 as they go. It’ll be interesting to see if the rest of the market changes to match or stays with the old designs. This pistol looks good, I don’t like any MIM parts but it is what it is. If I was in the market, I’d see how their reputation goes on this platform and would definitely consider it, they haven’t had the greatest name in 1911 over the years, hoping they do well with the 2011, more options are a good thing.

That gun look like a a brand new mansion that you've been putting your eyes on for years I like that motherfuking that color that rose gold that's off the chain bro
Am I seeing a proprietary main spring housing? That’s a turn off for me for some reason, even more so than the external extractor. It’ll be nice to learn whether a “standard” 2011 grip can be fitted and function with a standard MSH. A pinned grip safety is a must for me on a comp 2011. However, one would lose that beautiful magwell. I do have to say that this gun is one of the better ones out there in terms of aesthetics.
All 2011 grips have proprietary mainspring housings - basically - you can fit other ones but they don’t match the grip - the MSH comes with any grip you buy
Fair enough, I haven’t swapped out the grip on my Prodigy so I did not realize this. Even so, at least EGW makes a MSH for the Prodigy grip, which I have installed (and pinned for the grip safety). It would be great to know whether the $50 Prodigy grip fits this Kimber. That would also potentially allow for the use of MBX mags. For all the Prodigy’s faults, the one thing SA got right was making it compatible with normal 2011 mags and parts (mostly).
Ok I realize now my mistake. In your video it looked as if the whole checkered area of the backstrap was the mainspring housing. Looking at the detailed photos of the gun on Kimber’s site I can see that the actual MSH is essentially standard size.
I am disappointed that it is not ported or comped. Every new gun seems to be. Can the trigger shoe be replaced with a shorter one for us with smaller hands. Except for the above mentioned, I like it .
External extractor, no overinsertion, reset kicks back nicely and balanced.

Pinning the grip safety is very easy. Just drill the msh use a small roll pin to hold it in place
Ok I realize now my mistake. In your video it looked as if the whole checkered area of the backstrap was the mainspring housing. Looking at the detailed photos of the gun on Kimber’s site I can see that the actual MSH is essentially standard size.
Ive been itching to buy a .45 ds and guess im gonna be getting my 2nd kimber. I’ll watch some more videos but im pretty much sold.
I am disappointed that it is not ported or comped. Every new gun seems to be.
Can the trigger shoe be replaced with a shorter one for us with smaller hands. Except for the above mentioned, I like it .
also thr HAYES will allow placing mags into the magwell in twisted manner without problems.
Takes 2011 triggers so go nuts
Dad joke: Why do sharks live in salt water? Because pepper water makes them sneeze. Thank you for your time. lol
So other than the magwell / color and slide cuts what’s the difference between these 2? Large price difference if they shoot the same
Magwell, color, irons
I wonder if the 45 is compatible with the mbx 2011 45 mags. Would really help the capacity.
Doesn’t accept MBX tubes
not for carry, no comp. What were they thinking?
Needs a threaded barrels to top it all off
Awesome review, definitely got me interested 💪😎👍
Is it Reliable?
Great another Kimber I want... probably be the KDS9C first.
I may have to replace my CDP II for this....
Any chance you will
Make a rebuttal video to Lucas B. Recent video on Staccato?
No because I don’t want to watch Lucas Botkin talk for 54 minutes
How does the size of the 45 compare to the 9mm, are the grip width the same like the website says, is the LOP on the trigger the same?
yes - the 2011 is built off the dimension of a 1911 magazine - basically - front to back. They are the same in hand - identically so.
I have Medium sized hands. Is this gun too big for me to comfortably handle?
Can't use mbx magazine?
