Colter Wall I Never Go Around Mirrors

- We met up with Colter at his home in Saskatchewan, fresh off a few long days of riding the big fall round up. Heavy rain blew in and confined us to the horse barn where quickly a impromptu jam session broke out. Sitting atop old feed buckets, saddle stands and an old buckboard seat we gathered around. Songs old and brand new rang out through that barn while the rain soaked the parched prairie outside.
Heres a cover of an old Lefty Frizzel song, featuring neighbor rancher Craig Dumontel on the mandolin.
This video was recorded with permission from the artist.
His voice is aging like fine whiskey
I agree! I missed his younger raspy tone for a while, but I think this one sounds so much more mature. He was always good but has gotten so much better the last several years.
Woah
Love it!! Ready to see him live again. He needs to do an old country album.
@@daniellebishop3362 what would be your top songs he should sing?
@@pyrocoyote1that's a hard and easy question at the same time.
There’s honestly no one else like him.
He's absolutely one of a kind
The Kentucky poet used to be, until they sissified him once he signed.
Oh man it's been awhile since I've seen something new from Colter. Dude's really turned into a cowboy, reminds me of my great papa who drove and hauled cattle for a living. Tougher than all hell with a deep ass laugh like that. He's 91 and just last year finally had to call it quits due to cancer
He’s a cowboy first singer second!
He's always been a cowboy.
@@isaacbates6563 No he hasn't, go back to the old days when sleeping on the blacktop came out. He was just a kid back then. Compare then to now. Back then he was a young premiers son. A cowboy is someone who works a ranch for a living.
@@christoforos4126 He was a ranch hand back then.
@@5koby4 point me in the direction of that info so that I may rid of my current notion. I'm aware his cousin got him a job at a feed farm but the man was a city boy. I've been a ranch hand here and there and I know that doesn't make me cowboy. Hence my original comment "dude's really turned into a cowboy."
At home with a neighbor is where it’s at for this fella.
It's 🇨🇦 so that would be neighbour with a U

Colter Wall is most definitely a living country legend!
My absolute favourite singer.
Great to see all the love for Keith Whitley tunes these days
Lefty frizzel tune
Lefty
Haggard second
Colter Wall is truly a gem. He’s not from our time.
Please make a sat night "QUICK PICK" barn sessions of this stuff right here! 2 hours worth! Raw...just wingin it....with bad jokes, some old stories and lots and lots of this!! ❤🙏🙏❤
How fucked up is it that a Canadian is far more country than anything in Nashville, the supposed capital of country music. He's a rare treasure and I'm glad he's keeping the real, working man's country alive
cause he is real country. he lives on a ranch not in a high rise
Nashville is just another Hollywood.
Canada has a rich history of cowboys. Nashville does not. Nashville is basically Hollywood for Country music. Colter doesn’t have any desire to be in Nashville. He’s a cowboy.
Zack top is great to😊
@@moto_45__ Damn straight, ranch work is rough stuff. It'll make you tough
Tremendous. Those of us who appreciate real authentic music in the west are hungry for tunes like these. Played in barns. Played with ranchers from down the road. Played atop old feed buckets. Thank you.
Baby wake up, new colter wall video on Dusty Vaquero just dropped
Colter Wall doing Keith Whitley doing Lefty Frizell - love it 💙
Dont forget Guy Clark
This man is forever my favorite
Es mi artista favorito, su voz es asombrosa, me encanta. Saludos desde México 🇲🇽
HOT DAMN COLTER WALL
Singing some of colters songs around the campfire tonight.
Man this was amazing, his voice is perfectly suited to this song.
I've heard Lefty Frizzell, Whiter Schaefer, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Gene Watson, Keith Whitley, Mark Chesnutt, Daryle Singletary, Sturgill Simpson, and Creed Fisher sing this song and this is one of the absolute best I've ever heard.
I have probably heard every studio recording of it, and this is definitely one of the best, Merle had the potential to record an unbeatable version but chose to be a bit reserved which held it back a notch.
I'm not sure if there's really anybody out there today who can really put the feeling into a song and sing it like they've lived it as well as Colter wall can.
Sturgill's version is second only to this one, IMO.
@@robertbenedict5648 nah, it's pretty good but in my opinion it's 3rd to the cover recorded by Mark Chesnutt.
In order
Colter wall
Mark Chesnutt
Sturgill Simpson
Lefty Frizzell
Keith Whitley
Merle Haggard
George Jones
Whitey ( Sanger D ) Shafer
Creed Fisher
Gene Watson
Daryle Singletary
Keep in mind guys....these ole boys here are just goofing around out in the barn. If this was polished and done in a recording studio, it woukd certainly be up near the top of that list. @robertbenedict5648
@@Freethoughtman Oh, it's at the top of my list, you don't need a recording studio to make good music, and this is a great example of it. I would rather listen to this raw uncut version then a polished turd from Nashville. This is the best version of this song
@robertbenedict5648 lol...well said....when you're good, you don't need a recording studio, that is....that's why so many main stream artists are really not all that good at all....there are many of those polished turds on the radio.
This man has got some strong roots.
I'm seeing him in December and I really hope he plays this for us. I just love Colters voice
I don't know if I'll ever decide if I like Colter's refined sound more than his early outlaw-ish tone when he was just getting started, but this was mighty fine!
That mustache is looking glorious, too! I'd love to meet this ol boy one day for he's the namesake of my 2yr old son.
Epic! Love from New Zealand 🔥🔥
Them boys gotta it made!!!! Sitting in a barn hallway , away from the crazies of the world not worrying about politics, or the likes just having a big time !
I reckon if Jesus plays music, this is what it sounds like. Amazing.
we need another show Colter
That's what we are all here for. Pure poetic of the western brought in the finest of forms, thank you Colter ❤
That's punchy as it gets right there men !!!!!!!🥃🍻
❤️🔥I can’t stand to see me without you by my side
The color is absolutely stunning
Going to see him in two days. Can’t wait!
Mr Colter Wall’s music is magical and helped me through some hard times. So grateful for his knowledge, talent, integrity and loyalty to his art form. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏽
This guy is just phenomenal
Having a laugh with a buddy and picking out a classic out in the barn...the little things that enrich life. Great job !
Thought most of country left for decades, but there is now an embarrassment of riches on YT! 👍🙏😎
New Colter cover?! That makes my day
Hands down the best artist I have came across in a long many a year !
Thank you young man. My 30 year old son and I can enjoy music, together. We decided that if we had a jukebox in the barn, you'd make the list.
jmp
Pure like always…
Craig’s not giving himself enough credit! Good stuff boys
What an amazing atmosphere and straight fun with the buddies. Cheers to you Colter and Craig Dumontel and the Dusty Vaquero team.
Great song, awesome rendition! Whitley would certainly tip his hat to this!!!
Get this man in the country music hall of fame…🔥
He's only 29 years old now but maybe in time.
Good lord, this is amazing. Helluva job J.B.!
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
My favorite country singer
Proper cowboy country
🤘🏼
Great cover, nice to see him picking a dread too
Absolutely amazing as usual!!
Goddamn Colter, this is like a good whiskey
A living legend.
Amazing!!!!!
This is amazing
Dang that was good!
Beautifully Done Fellas
hell yeah Colter, you rock
I came here from Instagram and I love it!!
Really like this guy. this is great. I do search for others like him. Did find one. Try Erik Shicotte.
The ending shot could be an ad for PBR
Perfect.
Little bit of Lefty coming out of Colter there in the beginning.
Well, slap my 102yr old Grandma. This is sorrowful and fine. Love this song.
You Sir should play the Grand ol Opry’
❤️
Hell yeah!
Hanging out with the neighbors in our barn never sounds that good 🤔
0:22 is great wtf 😂
Having some fun with his buddy....trying not to laugh😂
Siiiiick
wow
Is there any way you can upload this to spotify?
Lefty Frizell original also done by Keith Whitley.
The more Colt stays on his ranch the more he turns into Sam Elliott 😂
What is his hat shape?
👏
How come Colter never sings Kate McCannon anymore???
Could clean up with that Keith Whitley accent 🖼️
Thought this was merle haggard's song
He does a ton of covers and rips most of his riffs (and vocals) off old songs…listen to sleeping on the blacktop then go listen to the original and better version “nothin” by Townes van Zandt
Blue ribbon is one of the worst beers. I would never have that in my photo.
I really wish Colter would use his real singing voice rather than this awkward fake baritone thing that he does. Great song though - Frizzell and Whitley did an amazing job on it!
That is one of the dumbest comments ever. He must be lip syncing this and his girlfriend is actually singing in the background.
its so cursed hearing him play standard tuning lmao
Meh, Keith Whitley did it WAY better😒
