- SpaceX Starlink has reduced its guaranteed internet speeds and increased its guaranteed latency!
A few channel members have asked me if I still believe Starlink is a good value and today I answer that question and look deeper into the last year of Starlink Intenet Speeds, Latency, Service, and much more.
My feelings on Starlink have changed a bit over time!
I truly hope you enjoy the video and find value in it!

Hey man! Appreciate all you do! I gotta question for you so right now I'm in the best effort option. I'm debating if I should just wait and see if Starlink comes out with a new version dish for customers or if that won't be for a while and should I get it now. My official service date is Dec 30th 2023. In a debate about all of this and if it's worth getting or wait. I have no internet options available at all to me other then my cellphone no T-Mobile home internet or anything. Unfortunately It is the only option. So Starlink I'm wondering if it be a step up right now or just save my money and wait to get it.
I really don't want to rush if it's no better then my cellphone or if Starlink may drop a new dish version 3 satellite for customers. I've been without officially internet for a while now and it's be detrimental to my work but I'm debating if the wait maybe worth it more.
If you could share your thoughts I would appreciate it thank you in advance if you do respond 🙏

I really appreciate your videos! I have starlink residential. Even though they have dropped the numbers. It is way far better than Hughesnet!
I have been getting under 10mbs download during peak hours on standard plan in edmonton alberta. I have speed tests showing 7.5mbps. I switched back to radio internet.
New to your channel and new to Starlink. I live on a ranch (80 acres) split into 2 parcels with my brother. Our homes are about 200 feet apart and as of now, we both use the RV units because Starlink doesn't offer the home version at our residences. We have great speeds from the morning to around 2:30 PST and then the service is useless, especially for working from home.
My wife works from home, there is no other internet service besides Hughes for our rural area. I want to use 1 dish and have business speed internet no matter what time a day it is. If we share the business service, we only have to send the signal 150 feet to the other house. Keep in mind, we have two spouses and both work from home via the computer (my wife works with big files in a cloud server) and need fast internet.
Both RV units run $300 a month, business is $500. The extra $200 is well worth it if we can get the speeds I need. Any recommendations?
Keep up the great work, I just love the channel.
Rick
What Starlink has done is phenomenal. Growth has slowed speeds, but they have to grow revenue to succeed. I want them to succeed. Be patient.
1) It is only phenomenal if you live in the middle of nowhere where you don't even have reliable mobile phone service (3G would be enough speed for most people)
2) Still beta to skip out on all responsability or liabilities
3) They are just spamming the lower orbits foll of satelites and they will sooner or later burn and crash in the atmosphere/the Pacific. This will result in high maintenance costs.
It is dubiouse if this is sustainable with current user numbers.
4) The mayor feature of direct satelite to satelite communication is not yet implemented
Infrastructure all around the globe is getting better and every new mobile phone tower will reduce the number of potential customers.
I would be surprised if they still have this segment for non-business clients around in 5 years. By Musks statement in October 2021 (paraphrase): "If Starship does not fly every 2 weeks in 2022 SpaceX is gonna go bankrupt".
I don't like it, but I think its intentional, the more people subscribe to it the more demand there is for the FCC to allocate useable frequencies for them to use to improve service... being that Elon is who he is, this checks out to me. The FCC arguably has a very bad track record with allocating and managing our public frequencies fairly. Elon likes to piss off the big wigs in the gov and rubs some the wrong way, making asking nicely and playing fair harder to do.
Likewise! I too wish them all the success!! 🍵👍🏻
I've ben a Starlink customer for two years. I live in the high desert of Arizona three hours NE of Phoenix. I can confirm your report and my service matches your numbers exactly. However, I have no better option and Starlink is still superior to any other option in my area. Excellent review.
Many Starlink users do not have any other option or the only other option is Geo centric satellite service like ViaSat and HughesNet which are horrible.
You are the exact customer Starlink was designed for. Remote areas. With increased amount of users, speed should be expected to decrease slightly, though like cell phone internet, there will be increases with tech upgrades, like the new ones they just launched, and the even bigger ones they eventually intend to launch on Starship.
My Starlink is currently going through Philippines Customs and I can hardly wait for it to arrive. I live out in the jungle of the Philippines and the best service available is cellular-based 4G, of which we are lucky to get 4Mb down and 1Mb up. It will probably be better, but if I get the minimum 50 Mb downlink I'll be ecstatic. Now that it's finally available here I will no longer be relegated to the information trolley system and can enjoy the information superhighway.
“ No better option “ ….seems to me that sums things up exactly.
I concur... Starlink is still by far the best option in the remote area where I live.
You didn't mention that even though the services offered went down, the price is going up. 🤦♀️
Like Elon Musk invented "over selling" that's just the way things go. I am still happy (comparatively) with the other options available in my area. 🌠💞🎉
It's really getting crazy with Starlink. My service gone to the 🚽. I thought it was something with the bad weather recently but I noticed my dish turned from North to now it's almost West.. I tried to make it go back North but remembered your video and just gave up. I am now experiencing lots of buffering 😢 and lots of 2Mbps all day. It does eventually jump back to 20-30 Mbps and honestly like you said ....its still a better option than Hughesnet my only other option.
On a bright note - today's launch contained approximately 30 mini gen 2 satellites
Loving starlink on my boat in mx
👍🏻🍵👍🏻🍵
Full time RVer here with Starlink RV, 58 this year and still working, often from the bunk house in our 5th wheel, converted to an office. Starlink still remains a valuable part of our internet triad. We supplement with T-Mobile 5G 100 GB and ATT 4G 100GB hotspots. We have been several months in the darker high use areas and it still works well for work VPN and Teams. Occasionally we get congestion in the evening streaming so I switch to a hotpot. I use a router oriented for RVers so it’s really easy to switch internet sources without having to change settings on individual devices. Also helps if Starlink gets affected by weather.
As it gets hot temperature wise, we are moving out west traveling among higher altitudes, also less congested. Starlink should most likely still be good….hopefully. Very much enjoy your videos.
Agree.
What I’ve been seeing is 7am-11pm it’s 50-120DL, 10-15UL and 11pm-7am it’s 240-340DL 50UL. Latency seems too be the same. 50-80ms. I think I’d get better speeds and ping if I wasn’t connected to Colorado ground station 550 miles away from me and I live in AZ. But right now I’m fine with it cause I literally live in the middle of knowhere and it’s been the best option since cellular broadband.
I got my Gen 1 dish on Dec 24, 2021. Download Speeds were consistent in the 750-800mb range and downloads were, again consistent in the 35-40mb range. This was Amazing! Now the download speeds are in the 250-280mb range and the upload is in the 30-45mb range. I just ran speed tests to verify this. I live in a very remote area, actually on an Island and internet options here are cell service at 40mb down and 10 up at $400/month or the just amazing Fiber option of 20mb down and 2-3mb up at $245/month, which only works if the weather is perfect. Starlink was created for people like me and has made a huge difference in our life. Gen 2 satellites launched today and I think service will be getting much better soon. Starlink is still an Excellent Value!!
Wow thanks for the real data and an honest review. Perhaps Starlink should watch your video.
That would be interesting.
Best summary available, excellent work!
Thank you Edward for being here.
It's good enough for me because there's no other alternative. Also, they screwed around with pricing. Some of us pay more, some less, for the same service, depending, apparently, on where you live.
Yes, get a call center. I agree.
👍🏻🍵
This is exactly for what we use Starlink...for a Backup ISP. We as a family are still working from home so we need redundancy. We also watching / streaming Live TV, so no Dish or Cable, so we are relying on internet for everything. In our case we have seen improvements. A tons of firmware update in the last year (every two weeks) and the speed around the same Download 150-250 / Upload 5-10.
Getting less for our money all the time. This is getting to be a problem.
Let me correct you: getting less for MORE money
We will see how it turns out.
@@OShackHennessy Today I heard Kamala Harris let us know inflation has been beaten by the administration. We should be thanking them
@@kamakaziozzie3038 muahahahhaa
@@kamakaziozzie3038 That's not what I saw. Interestingly different analysis. More rate hikes to come.
Starlink should have 100% limited giving the service to areas that don't have cable/fiber available until they could continue to service everyone at the same as the starting levels.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Jon for your support and most of all kindness.. Truly is appreciate by me! Many blessings!
I had century link with a download speed of 8.7 Mbps and upload of 0.7 Mbps. Of course, Sterling is much better, but a huge cost difference. I would hate to do it, but if it goes much higher and cost, I would suffer and go back to CenturyLink.
Proximity to ground stations is irrelevant. What matters is how close your servers are to the ground stations. Whoops, as long as the satellites are using the laser links.
Recomnend adding another column for monthly cost rates.
Great point.
I buy 18 eggs instead of a dozen. Sounds like alot of scrambled eggs in April.
🥚
70.4 down, 8.37 up, 31ms right now. Better than what I had, but not what I started with. Not a happy camper with that or the price increases.
👍🏻🍵👍🏻🍵
3rd. Test 11 mbps to 5.7 up
They did indeed oversell the service. Now they are slicing that "pie" in smaller and smaller pieces. But I still need it as a backup and so I can always work when I adventure to remote places. And yes, a call center is needed. Great work on this one!
Well that’s gone though: portability is no more.
@@supermovieron True. I will have to go to the RV service as I don't want to give up traveling while I run my business. My digital work does not require heavy downloads or uploads. So even if it is throttled down, its good enough for the work I do.
My other option is T-Mobile but only 1 tower and it drops randomly for an hour or a couple of days. I'll stick with SL.
Tried it for about 6 months and dumped it after hearing this recent news, not mentioning the issues with the wire and horrible CS response times. Im a full time Rv'r and 99.9 recent of the places we go have 5G or 4G coverage with my T-mobile. Instead of getting raped again on sending it back for $250, I was able to get what I paid for it and transferred my serviced to someone I met at the RV park (which always has people there frustrated with the parks Wifi). Just my 2cents worth on my opinion.
Many starlink users will remove motors from their antennas in order to install that on a flat surface in RV or some another vehicle.... That won't improve starlink network load balancing and surely also means higher service costs for all. Starlink has its own, but much more expensive antennas for flat mounting.
Good point but they will have to pay for RV service once they use it on the go.
I checked my internet speed from the star-link app and as of last night at 8pm MST 1.7 down .8 up 47 latency. That is what I had with Century-link. I do not think I will be recommending star-link until if ever it gets fixed.
1.7Mbps download speed ??? Never heard of that before. Ouch.
Ordered starlink about a year ago with speeds around 300 down here in the Sierra Nevada mountains as only Hughes net and limited hotspot access available, and was pretty happy. Since December it’s been just awful with long outages during snow storms and speeds below 50 down. T-Mobile got unlimited 5g home internet in My area and I went and got it as a trial while starlink was down. It’s been 100 down 30+ up all day everyday no outages and no issues for $50 a month. I’m currently paying for both and keeping my fingers crossed for the V2 sats but pretty close to ditching it altogether if T-Mobile stays this reliable.
My speeds in February 2023 in North Central WA (I'm getting these fairly consistently): 100-150 down, 2-6 up, latency 20-30. These speeds are morning through late afternoon/early evening and then from late night until morning. During evening hours I can see as low as 25-50 down, 1-2 up, 25-35 latency Note: I can still occasionally get 175 down, 10 up and 18 latency. I'm remote rural, so there is not a better option.
Ouch. Times of congestion really hurt performance for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I just installed my Starlink v2 dish yesterday. I am very impressed thus far. I have my Orbi mesh network in AP mode connected via ethernet to the ethernet cable accessory and still have my Starlink router serving as the mothership. Here is what I received a few minutes ago (12 noon CST 2/28/23).
Wifi: 428 Mbps. Starlink: 220 Mbps. Loving my Starlink service so far.
Congrats!!!!
Spot-on analysis, Joe. Sadly, Starlink is still the only viable option at my rural property.
Take care and God Bless.
Many blessings to you and your family.
I just ran test on rv. 58 mbps down 12 up. Next test 21mbps 11 up
No bad but the 11/5.7 was not good.
Thank you for posting the continuing Starlink info and updates. It is very helpful.
You got it!!
Yep. I’ve been saying it for a while. Speed is going down and price is going up. Which all in all, with all the work that they’re doing to put satellites in space, could be understandable. But the idea was that it was going to make things better than what we used to have to deal with, with Cable Internet companies. Unfortunately, now they’re slower than cable internet, and much more expensive so unless you’re planning on using this on your boat or in your RV, there’s really no advantage.
100% agree bro
I have been frustrated cuz it’s currently my only option but I also really believe in SpaceX & Elon in general. But I’m confident that things will get better as these 4 trains of gen 2 satellites come into operation 🤞🤞
For me, when I have the option of wired internet in a few years, he better have it working like a top for me to still believe 😔
I completely understand. Wired Internet is always the best. If fiber available, you should go fiber.
Yea it's just hard for people to handle getting worse stuff/situations. No one likes getting a pay cut (unless it means no job at all), don't like it when their stocks/investments drop, no one likes inflation because it devaluates their dollars, and people certainly don't want worse internet then they had before..
@@jcristina just watched the launch of the first 20+ gen 2 satellites, I thought the previous ones were but I guess not.
So there is 150-200 new gen 1 satellites getting into orbit & now these 👀👍👍
A factor may be that early on when subscribers were getting 300 down ( over deliver) it was assumed this would continue to be the speed they received.
Just finished this video and i was perusing the Specs page and found this little nugget of Gold. Looks like when on Basic Access we can expect between 5-20 mbps.
Absolutely.
I just hope residential doesn't wind up like best effort but still better g than Viasat on a bad day
Likewise. Richard
@JCristina just sent up some of the 2.0 I think at 615 the ones that were suppose to go.up on starship
I'm in Montana and still at 240mbps
Sweet
I got starlink as revenge against my current provider, my current provider charges late fees even though I have autopay on, shuts off internet if for some reason payment doesn't go through and it's Their fault, and they're Jenks to us because their "the only option and they know it" and it pisses me off. My starlink came in a week ago. And my roof mount comes in a few days. Once we have it working for a few days I plan to cancel our TDS internet because of how much they have angered me. I'm so happy Starlink exists.
😂💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
When I am at my home address, I get 150-200 but now I am working away from home so with portability it’s terrible
Yep. Their numbers don’t lie. Thanks Corden.
Just checked at 2050 and an hour outside of Dallas, TX, I'm getting 28MB down and 5 MB up with 56 ms latency. In 60 days Frontier will start offering fiber in my area at 1GB for $70 a month, no caps, no throttling. Then it's adios Starlink.
Lucky!!!!
Starlink is not design for people access to fiber. Elon has said that from the start. Starlink is a great product and I will drop it as soon as fiber is available to my house.
Thank You!
Thanks you Joe.
Wait, they slowed speeds AND guaranteed MORE latency?
Is that a 1-2 punch for the rubes or a slip of the pen?
Great job, very clear info. And by the way, thank you for your service 🙏
Thank you Mark for being here.
Would be nice to see a chart showing any/all other comparable services comparing price vs. bandwidth…..my guesstimate is that it would show Starlink is still by far the better value
hands down
@@jcristina …and of course I typed that in before watching the entire video where you make that abundantly clear 👍
Just tested using Starlink’s speed test and got 167 down and 13 up at 8:15am. Not too shabby.
Fantastic!!!!
Man it’s still better than Viasat! 😂 I’m just going have to keep paying cause ain’t no way I’m putting my family back through THOSE speeds!
Yes. 😂
Hi!, in Valencia (Spain) I have a download speed of 400mb and an upload speed of 40mb. I don't understand why in the USA you have those speeds
Because the people here have drank the cool-aide and believe the propaganda regarding how amazing the internet is in the USA when it’s simply is not. Have to be honestly Jorge.
Yeah! JC. By the way.... the policy of Star Link about prices and speeds in Europe is diferent from USA and, at least for me, is very courious .... maybe in Spain only me and 3 or 4 more "cats" are using Starlink and this is why our speeds are great...
I'm pissed off I went to bat for him on the FCC deal then get threatened with increases. I figure my time is worth something.
Point well received.
Just remember that the ground stations use the big tier 1 IP carriers like Vz, ATT, Lumen etc.
I actually had an order for Starlink, as I had slow DSL, and that was my only option. By the time I was able to order my Starlink equipment, other options had opened up, from fiber to the home, Vz 5G home and then a local WISP's coverage. I ended up with fiber as my primary connection and then also have the VZ 5G @ home for the backup. With automatic fail-over between the two it works very well, even during a switch. The only thing that happens is the VPNs will disconnect as the source IP changes with the other carrier.
I am hopeful that they (Starlink) will succeed, however there is going to be some pretty big losses until they can turn it around. Having the rockets that put the sats up is a massive advantage over any other player in that space. By the end of the year with C-band 5G ramping up to the max, that will be a big boom to local 5G based systems as well. I would expect to see many new rural areas being covered by that as well, vs the big urban areas from all the carriers, however to deploy all the cell sites takes a lot of capital and time.. 🤠👍
If my Starlink service keeps getting worse and worse, it’ll be worse than my ViaSet and if that point, I will probably just cancel it
I will still take it over Viasat. Due to viasat having terrible data plans that I would exceed in a week or 2 just with regular use.
I don’t think it will ever get there but time will tell of course, Chip
I'll only sticking with StarLink hoping that they speeds start getting better. I have never gotten the latency that you talk about J. The lowest I ever see is 59 and the highest are 80. Thanks for all of your hard work and sharing it with us. Your the man when it comes to StarLink.
What also changed was Ukraine
They launched 21 gen2 new satellites yesterday
👍🏻🍵
You are 100% right period!!!
Thanks for being here!! 👍🏻👍🏻
My gripe is Starlink raised my charge to 120$ because I am in a 'congested' area and they will pay me 250$ for return of my working equipment if I choose to cancel. I live on a mountain top 20 miles away from any city with more than 10k people. And yes the service has degraded by almost 50% in the last year.
Yep. Math does not work.
Just ran the speed test @ 22:30 hrs 03-01-2023 Download 11 Mbps Upload 9.1 Mbps Latency 31 Ms. Starting my 4th month of service and now paying $120.00. Lets say not a happy customer, my old provider was faster and cheaper…..! Would I do it again, Nope!!!
Ouch!
I'm in Africa and using RV service. I use to get 280 mbps.
Now I just get between 150-190 mbps.
Don't know if that's bad.
For USA speeds. That is very fast in Africa using an RV plan.
Starlink beats the crap out of the copper-based DSL we get here at 9 down and .8 up. If you live in the big city, stay away and leave the resources for those of us out of town with no options that cost as much or more than Starlink.
Likewise. That’s thin copper. FAT copper no, not yet.
The speeds are dropping at peak times drastically. The system is being oversold! They need to meter the number of new connections in relation to the number of new satellites put into operation. Some areas apparently need to be shut off for new service for a while.
I think it would be interesting to see what service other people are getting. I received my Starlink around the same time as you, but have never had the speeds you do, always much lower. Maybe 3 more polls on what people are getting: Latency, Up, and Down.
I have no idea how that would work out. My speeds are not consistent at all. I might get 40 to 80 upload on a speed test, turn around and run it again within seconds and then get maybe 20 upload speed. A third test right behind that might get me 120 on upload. It’s crazy all over the place. I do have a Starlink map up in my browser that actually shows me the satellites and number of satellites I’m connected to at any moment. They fly by so fast that at any given moment I’m connected to up to 6 or as few as two.
@@stacyakin Yes, it can be all over the place, but it only has to be approx. Based on my experience and looking at the Network Statistics on the app, I know that mine is usually around 30-40 Mbps down and 10-15 Mbps up with a latency of 30-40 ms.
Varies from 100-200 Down to 7-13 up
You didn't mention on that Nov/Dec slide that they also MOVED RV service which I have from 50-200 to the same as Best Effort. You did mention they were lumped together, but didn't mention the effect. You didn't even MENTION the companion price increases?? You should have had the COST of all the services on those charts because they have been continually lowering speeds and latency, while continually raising prices.
Thank you. More changes just came.
I have a question...;
does Teslas use Starlink to connect their cars; and if so, how does that effect the rest of us Stralink users?...
I have never seen fast speeds like you get.
😞
Thank again for your videos I learn a lot. and yes, my speed is down but I have no other choice. That’s all I can get is starlink
Still a fantastic service.
For those of us who are in rural remote areas with zero local providers, Starlink is STILL the best bang for the buck.
Likewise.
Unbelieve that people complain about something as good as Starlink. Without Starlink my download speed would be 3m down. Anything better than that is a win. So they are a huge win for me.
This was never intended for people that have access to alternatives. Hopefull Spacex will take it away from people that don't need it and expand it to the people that actually deserve it.
You didn’t say anything about the price going up
These are all 'best effort' service - the economics of residential / satellite Internet access by definition requires over-subscription rates.
Truly everything is overbooked. Doctor, dinner, etc.
We need technical support! Haha great video once again 😁 My current speeds, (from KY) Ping:88 Down:162 Up:10.4 Honestly quite pricey PLUS the new service increase, but the only best option in rural areas 😕 No trashy HughesNet for me!
🤦🏻♂️😂🍵👍🏻🍵🍵
Good analysis. Not what I wanted to hear as you stated but I’m one of those people who have no other option at the present time. Like some of your other viewers if I do have other options in the future, he better have it fixed by then or I may be forced to go another route. Still grateful at the moment and I do hope it gets fixed. Lastly, yes, yes, yes, Starlink must improve customer service!! A call center is a must!!👍
Likewise and agree!
My speeds are good. But lentency is way high. Up too 100. And alot of pocket loss. Price is the same about 50 bucks. Something ive haddent seen for a while and is doing again is . Dish losses connectivitie and i get red light. Over all service is decreasing . Shoutout to every one from tijuana México. JJ.
😔
RV rarely hit 5 mbps for me so I dropped it.
Ouch.
I think your analysis is spot on. I live in rural Wisconsin... near south east part. We can get phone internet where max download is 10 mbps. 710 kbps for uploads. Yeah it sucks. So starlink was a God send. I get around 45-138 download during the daytime and maybe 28 at Night. Very drastic decilnes. But I am still happy so far because the alternative is so terrible. Thank you for doing your podcasts.... they are very informative.
Got an email the other day and they are raising the price yet again. Now it's going to be $120 a month. Verizon lte home internet just became available in my area so I might do a trial run with it to see if it'll work for my needs.
My speeds with starlink are all over the place. Still MUCH better than viasat, but I don't know if it's worth $120 a month when the verizon is $25
Yep
Thanks for the update
I'm riding it through hoping for improvement. The only chose I have except for Hughes or Vista satellite. Have no cell service in my area. Starlink has been a blessing but at times its slow 🐌 but better then nothing.
Really enjoy your videos it keeps me update and your channel is better does not seem you are doing for just the clicks keep up the great job.
Thank you for hanging out here and adding to the conversation.
I agree what a disappointment starlink has been. I am getting billed more because I am in the initial target area: rural America. My speed have been going down for more money. I would not recommend this to anyone!
This whole area is 1800 people most on food stamps. So I doubt they have starlink. My closest neighbor is 150 acres away.
🤦🏻♂️
I'm going to be patient. I'm one of the groups our only choices are starlink vs Hughesnet and Viasat. I agree with putting together a customer support team.
I am a full time RVr and mostly boondocks in area where cell service is spotty. Starlink has been good for me. However this price increase will be the last on I will tolerate. Anything higher and i
Will be forced to pull the plug.
They won't do cap as a result speeds will take hits and probably price hike
Good point.
So I called Starling and asked about their speed guarantee. I talked to someone who identified himself as agent Maxwell Smart:
Me: exactly how much speed am I promised Max?
Maxwell: You'll be guaranteed 50-250mbps!
Me: I don't believe you.
Max: Would you believe 20-100mbps?
Me : No.
Max: Would you believe faster than a Commodore 64 with a 300 baud modem?
Me: I'm getting 5-35
Max: Missed it by that much..,
My best effort can definitely go over 100 at times. So these times are approximate and , in my case, are on the low side.
Yep!!
Very balanced analysis of the current state of Stalink service. They are desperate to recoup the running costs and the future expansion costs. Starlink was born on very low interest investor money sloshing about pre 2020 and also relies on the Space X cheaper rocket launches. However now it's a different story with investment, extra borrowing comes with higher cost and eventually they need to make Starlink pay for itself. Hence all these different plans, raising prices, reducing data speeds. I agree that it will get a bit worse until they manage to put enough satellites up to cover the extra customers. In the long run, who knows, LEO satellite systems need constant replenishing, so costs are always going to be higher than a terrestrial service. The other satellite operators are also upping their game, not clear who will win eventually.
Absolutely. The space is getting interesting.
YES! For the Love of all that’s Holy- get a Call Center! Where they speak English as a first language.
That’s more important that ANY of the other Starlink shortcomings- IMO 🙏
As a side note. Can Tesla please do the same thing?
I love my home solar/Powerwall! but would appreciate to be able to talk to someone when I have an issue
Great point. Communication is mission critical.
It's called growing pain. It still fits my needs, and I am optimistic about the future. They do need a help desk starting with English because it is the international business language, and many countries are proficient with English. Good English skills without a heavy accent would be nice to start with. They could evolve to other popular languages as necessary. However, every language would be a real challenge.
I did not say English to start. I said that if the customer service was in Dubai, they should speak the language. If the customer service is in English they should speak English if the customer service is in Spanish they should speak Spanish so that the customer can feel comfortable with customer support, unlike many other companies.
@@jcristina I basically agree, but most companies farm out that service to India, Mexico, and other countries to cut costs while English is the preferred language. It is interesting that Starlink does very little if any marketing and that alone cuts cost significantly. I think it is a real child of the Internet and I am not aware of their website for signing up and FAQ's in any language but English.
Joesph, when you quote your network speeds, are these with VPN on or off?
Off.
best effort is below 5Mb/s every evening between 8-9p
Wow I got on this early!
🍵🍵
Outstanding analysis and presentation as usual! I feel like a dummy and lesson learned.. save your stats and data! You can always purge a year or more down the road but cannot capture what has passed in time for doing this kind of analysis and ‘trust but verify’ . TY again!
Well said!👍🏻🍵👍🏻🍵
my service goes through chicago but newer stations are closer to me? how does one change the base station location used
?
A year ago you could but now. No go!
My property in middle-of-nowhere with RV services is still better and cheaper than other options available (for the bandwidth). Still getting up to 100mb down, which is good for doing remote work. My cell is not yet available for residential, but the next cell North of me IS available and many people are switching over from localized land-line services or even the WiMAX/MIMO/OTA options available that are way more expensive for the bandwidth and requires line-of-sight through the trees.
So glad to hear you’re still getting 100+ speeds.
is the us gov paying for Ukrainian use of starlink ?? are are the users subsidizing that use ??
The "guarantee" means SQUAT. I live in central FL on a farm and have had it for a year. RARELY ever got above 30M. According to your spec, I should have at least got 50M.... BS.
Optimistically. The Starship test is as soon as next month so hopefully this helps with satellite launches. If they up the ground station counts again, speeds can go back up. Pessimistically, the service has gotten worse and will probably be worse by the time its even available to me.
You may be right on both fronts, Dustin.
Unfortunately, the only option for my internet connectivity to resemble anything approaching normal is Starlink. So I have to deal.
It’s still awesome.
So it's kind of like when at&t promised 5 cents a minute 🤣
😂
