      @Benson Terrance why are you talking about movies on a repair video? That’s why I don’t watch movies because they make you do weird stuff. I’ll never watch another movie again after seeing this behavior you are showing.

    Very nice and professional video. Very well done. I actually have this exact problem with 2 doors and have solved one of them with the bent hinge pin that you demonstrate. My other one is a solid steel door with roller bearing hinges (the metal front door of our house) that the former owner installed. Have been thinking about something along the lines of your first solution to create extra friction on that front door, but with the roller bearings I'm not sure there's any way to create enough friction on the planet to keep it from swinging wide open every time and hitting whatever is there. Even installed those stops to prevent crashing into furniture but problem is it still stays open. I have tried to replace the hinges with non-roller bearing ones but the screw hole pattern is always different and the door is metal and I just don't have the diy skills to drill holes in a metal door. Any ideas besides hiring a pro and spending big bucks? I just realized the roller bearing barrels are on the jamb and not the door. I guess I could try breaking apart a new hinge of the same height and color (oiled bronze, 4") but I almost think I tried that and I couldn't get the 2 hinge pieces together in any aesthetic way because the barrel openings are different on the roller bearing side. Any ideas at all? Would self-closing hinges be a possible answer? Do they even make them in an shape that doesn't scream industrial? Thanks so much. Only if you have time.

    Hey Paul. I'd love to get your hinge hack ideas on old painted kitchen cabinet doors that wont stay closed in the rent houses I work on. Constant headache. Can I Dremel the caps of this little hinges and do the wire or rod bend thing on these? Many have been painted many times!

    If you're lucky and the frame is plumb you just need to tighten the screws on both sides of the hinges. Nice tips Paul, I didn't know those.

    I really like your videos they have helped this DIYer many times. Can you do a video on how to fix the drywall around an outlet box that either was over cut or just broken away over the years so the outlet box does not float in the hole or if you need to put in an old work box? I have tried a few different ways and all are very time consuming ans only hold up for a few years at best with plugging and unplugging cords. Thanks for your consideration.

    Hi Paul,
    All our doors have hinges with finials top and bottom that screw on and off.
    Is there a pin inside that can be removed. I have removed pins from hinges like you have in your example.

    You might want to add that this tip won't work with spring assisted hinges (mostly seen on doors leading to the garage, because of toxic fumes from the garage). It would involve releasing the tension with the hex key (or whatever style they have).
    Thanks for the tips as usual.

      Good morning eightyproof, That is a great suggestion and I wish I would have seen your post prior to doing this video. Single action hinges are made for fire rated doors, they are very affordable and make a good option for doors that want to stay open. The problem with this door is that it wants to close by itself so I would need a double action hinge for this application. Double action hinges are made for commercial doors such as double bar doors or cafeteria doors, they are bulky and pricey.
      Thanks for the tip and have a good day!

    I always run into the "mouse and cookie" routine. While I'm doing this I may as well fix this, but if I do this I may as well do this, and because it would be silly while I'm doing this that I shouldn't just go ahead and do this. Now if I could just remember what it was that I was trying to fix originally.

    So, If the door are gone open or close, you could bow the middle hinge pen?
    I put some oil in the hinge, because he make a noise, but now he goes open.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, bending the pin will cause friction by tightening the joint. If it squeaks you can apply a small amount of silicone spray to it. It should still stay in place when open and will not make noise.
      Thanks!

      *Paul Ricalde* I will try.

    • @schildersbedrijfedens
      @schildersbedrijfedens 6 лет назад

      But if i wanne do the second option ( with the hamer) do i need to get out the hole Hinge, or is only get out the pin enough?

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  6 лет назад

      I only took the hinge off to show exactly how the pin comes out. You can pop the pin out easily in most cases. Good luck and let me know if you run into any problems.
      Thanks!

    I thought you were gonna use some shimes behind the top or bottom hinges to make the door hinges sit plumb in the not plumb frame.

    • @paulstoolbox
      @paulstoolbox  6 лет назад

      Hi Michael, I personally don't like to shim behind the hinge itself, it can cause the door to bind. Hinges are mortised in order to seat correctly in the frame, shimming them can cause more problems then they are worth. Plumbing the frame is easier that people think and I will be posting a video soon on that subject.
      Thanks Michael and have a good day!
