    I am a 71 year old woman, with not much DIY experience, who has put up with my bedroom door not latching shut for over 10 years. I watched your video and successfully solved the problem in 15 mins. Thank you so much!

    Another beauty, Bill. I've previously put the catch plate in a vice and nibbled off some metal with a file but these options would have done the job.

    Additionally you can modify the striker plate with a rotary tool, or if you need the tiniest bit more clearance a file.

    Hey Bill, love your videos. Suggestion though, instead of using timber filler for the gap, use gloss finish . Generally get away with one coat of gloss enamel over the top instead of two coats. Cheers mate keep up the great videos

    I have this issue w a brand new prehung door. The installer said that was normal (to have to forcefully slam the door shut) but there is no way that is true. I might try this "slightly unscrew and chisel pound it" into submission tomorrow. Hopefully I won't make it worse.

    I wonder if doors shift a little season to season. Expanding in the heat of Summer and contracting during the cold Winter months.

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  8 месяцев назад +1

      They do shift a bit however if they are aligned correctly to begin with most of the time there won’t be any issues 👍

    I am a bit perplexed with the first option to fix the latching issue. Surely when you tighten the screws up again the strike plate will move back to the original position since it has countersunk holes for the countersink screw heads? Does that not happen and if now why not? Genuinely interested so I don't have to remove the strike plates any more and file the damn thing down for the latch to fit into the hole. *Thank you.* 👍👍

    • @jakeornot6306
      @jakeornot6306 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you for mentioning that issue. It seems my front door has only been pretending to close and lock - for months. (What a joke on me). Then, gusts of wind have opened it. Mine is a very old door in a very old frame. If you had not mentioned the countersink potential problem, I would have been wondering why the easy fix did not work, thinking it was my fault. Clearly, Bill is working with new. I suspect I will need a carpenter - if I can find one. Thank you.

    Hi i have a question about key not working in lock. The key on the outside is difficult to get into the lock and impossible to turn. However, from the inside the key goes in no problem and locks easily. Is there a fix for this please.

    What if the strike plate is too high? It looks like my door has sunk is there a renter friensly way to fix this without needing to deal with the landlord? Theyre the its your problem type. Even when its 100% their property and duty to fix stuff and if i did theyd charge me for it depsite the fact id be investing time money etc into their property.
