You should’ve tried the USB-C to Lightning cable, because the switch thinks that since it’s to USB-A it thinks it’s from a wall outlet, so it tried to charge itself.
To connect a Nintendo switch joy con to an iPhone/iPad u need to hold the sync button on the joy con then on ur iPad or iPhone go to settings and go to Bluetooth turn it on and then u will see the joy con. Press it and then it wotks
Whereas the Switch is a gaming console, the Apple devices are full on computers. Basically it’s drawing power from them because it recognizes them as a power source, thus gaming consoles are lower on the totem pole than them, obviously.

If you use a male usb c to female usb a (instead of male to male as shown in the video) for the switch then plug a regular usb to lightning into the female end and then lightning into an iPhone it will charge the phone using battery life from the switch. That was probably super confusing.

Why didn't you use the Lightning to USB C cable? The adapter you used it just for importing photos from an SD card.

So I tested it myself with an apple usb c to lightning cable it charges my iPhone 11 Pro Max on ios 14.2 as long as the screen for the switch is on.
