So, it was just announced that the DCU has finally found its new Superman in David Corenswet, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy. Corenswet has been one of the more popular fan picks for the man of steel, and is best known for his roles in Pearl, The Politician, and Hollywood. And Brosnahan is famous for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and House of Cards. I think that these picks are great, I’m really excited to see what they bring to their respective roles and how this movie can kickstart this new era of DC Films. Fancasting is something I have a complicated relationship with, and I have my own thoughts on what the new Superman Suit should look like.
But the thing that I'm the most excited about with his casting is that, for the first time in history, we have a Jewish Superman. Why is that a big deal? Let's talk about it.
With great power, there must also come great responsibility:

If Tom Holland as Lex Luthor, he can prove his superiority to Superman by doing a bunch of cool flips
This is my favorite comment so far
@@troyoboyo17 Why would Superman practice a HOMOPHOBIC RELIGION?. I'm a gay ex-christian, and I hate all abrahamic religion, and believe it to be a social evil that needs to be stopped, also, Superman is like a deity to me, he's sometimes all that stops me from killing myself, so of course I would hate to see him turned into a homophobic believer. I'm a mexican, in México, by the way. Mostly love your content, but it's mostly because you are one of the few fellow fans of Supes here in youtube.
He’s so good at math that he defeated Doctor Strange with geometry. He’s perfect for the role
Imagine him trying to do some ninja-kick stuff out of the Matrix
but instead he accidentally dislocates his spine.
Tom holland sucks.
I really do hope that Gunn goes for a timeless direction for his DC universe. Embrace the Art Deco City of Tomorrow look of Metropolis that acts as a hybrid of old meets new. Lexcorp pumping out vehicles inspired by the 1950s but of course modernized, Skyscrapers build in the style of Art Deco but with a flash of modern elements etc. It needs to be a massive contrast to Gotham City something we never got in the DCEU where they both ended up looking the same until The Flash shot it's scenes in Glasgow finally giving the city a Gothic look and feel. Same goes with fashion, tech etc. Why should people use products by Apple or Samsung give us Waynetech and Lexcorp devices stuff like this to add worldbuilding and show how massive these companies are in this universe and how much control Lex has over Metropolis. I never got why they try so hard to ground DC when there's so man aspects that branch it off from our own history decades before Superman and Batman show up.
Also as gun plans to make games set in this universe I'm pretty sure he knows that the settings showcases in the films and shows have to be amazing and translate one to one to a video game world. So if Metropolis and Gotham look boring and generic in the films then no one would want to explore that world in a game.
Please Gunn give us Art Deco Metropolis… I don’t think we’ve ever seen that in live action
I don’t really understand why the “city of tomorrow” wouldn’t look futuristic but, cool idea
You're right on the money. James Gunn has talked about the inherent otherworldly aspect of the DC universe compared to Marvel (which is as he put it is more 'our regular world with heroes dropped in'). The DCEU was really missing that key ingredient, it should feel like another world that is stylized but also incredibly vast, not every place should feel the same, Swamp Thing shouldn't have much in common with the visuals of Superman Legacy. I also hope they tell stories for the sake of telling good stories, personally I don't need a scene where every DC character shows up in one area to punch Darkseid ten years from now.
If they really nail the world and give it a distinct feel and style that can connect with audiences I think that will do a lot to keep them coming back despite how obscure some projects or characters may be.
@@connerkent9641 Because every city has a history so we will see the evolution of Metropolis throughout it's history in the form of different architectural designs throughout the city all inspired by the cities past. So for example Arkham Knight has a new Neo Gotham district being built in Gotham City that goes for a more modern glass Skyscraper look and feel but it still keeps gothic elements just modernized. Metropolis could have classic Art Deco designs built in the 1910s and onwards but also modern designs inspired by Art Deco to give it a timeless look and feel. Embrace the past and the future of the city. Pretty much the city never left the whole Art Deco feel and still remained in the DNA of new architectural designs, an evolution of Art Deco.
As far as the Superman costume goes I think the perfect balance is having it be made from the Kryptonian cloth he was swaddled in, but sewn together by Ma Kent.
That strikes the perfect balance between his Kryptonian heritage and his human upbringing.
Kryptonian born, human made ❤
WITH the trunks, of course
that’s how i know his suit origin!!! exactlyyyyy
@@realchezboi It's the way to go! I'm pretty sure that's what they did in Superman: Man of Tomorrow, that recent animated movie with the horrendous parasite design
@@realchezboi yeah. This was the suit's origin in Secret Origins by Geoff Johns.
Love the idea but not the trunks. No offense to those who like it but i think undies out gave him a perverted look.
I cant wait to see how Superman Legacy looks visually. The Suicide Squad looks beautiful so im excited to see the costumes, the backgrounds, the sets, the color grading, etc
There actually were some hints from the studio exec. about going old school with an old logo being posted. I'll see if I can find the link
ruclips.net/video/oD_EysXU6sY/видео.html
hope it's vibrant and colorful. man of steel was so dreadful lol
I also am very happy they announced the Clark and Lois casting at the same time, it makes it seems like they're really gonna empathize the relationship between them
As an east coast Jewish boi, it’s very nice to see one of us playing a character that was invented by two east coast Jews. Superman is supposed to be the best mensch, and I really think that casting someone who is probably what the creators envisioned is dope.
Edit: hahaha I’m so happy you mentioned this!!!
I agree so don't get me wrong here, but I've always wondered why Siegel and shuster had baby Kal-El crash-land in the Bible belt. It may not be overtly stated, but it's implied that the Kent family is Christian. Or maybe I am way off base here?
@@JB-1138 The Kents weren’t actually a part of Superman’s origin story in the original Action Comics 1, he was an orphan in an orphanage, so the Kansas element is an afterthought, although I think that came about when Siegel and Shuster were making Superman.
@@RiptidePen the Kents were the people actually the one who brought him to the orphanage but then they adopted him
@@JB-1138it’s a good question, it might be part of the “assimilation” allegory with Clark. Like being a Jewish person in the Bible Belt forces you to hide yourself? I’m not sure though that’s just speculation, in my research I didn’t see Shuster and Siegel mention that
@concert4aliens274 bruh you can still be Jewish and still give the greatest superman performance ever on screen
My only hope is that they keep Sasha Calle as supergirl she was great and didn’t get the chance to really shine. She could still be an awesome super girl.
Her character seems much better suited for power girl and even her costume wouldn’t be a bad design in white of course
after basically being forced to carry the flash's entire promotion campaign for reasons entirely out of her control if WB goes to someone else for the role going forward I'll be genuinely upset
Her age might be a problem. But even if they recast Supergirl, Calle can still get other roles in the DCU.
@@creed8712yo dis tru
@@creed8712her as power girl is a great idea, a way around any potential age issues as well
Also other point, I hope Gunn can make metropolis look futuristic in a sense like in the animated series and comics. So that we can see the difference between that , Gotham, star and central city. Let metropolis be it’s own character like Matt reeves did for the batman.
I think the trunks are fine as long as they are cut to thigh length. The tightie whitey design is outdated. But I agree that the suit should feel more like Raimi’s Spider-Man suit - a tangible earthbound fabric as opposed to some alien shit.
It’s looks weird when it’s down to the thigh it just doesn’t really look right
Just give him the christopher reeve style and let it go from there
thigh length would look horrible 🤡
I'm so hyped for David Corenswet. I have seen some of his previous acting and i'm sure he can prefectly nail the optimistic and joyful nature super-man needs. And oh boy am I hype that James Gunn is making it after watching guardian of the galaxy 3.
Blah you are full of crap it would be better to see purple kryptonite and gay superman right....this is real world no unicorns farting rainbows
When it comes to your comment on the design, I think Nando V Movies put it best when he compared Superman's trunks to the Brown M&Ms for Van Halen venues. For anyone unfamiliar, Van Halen would have super elaborate stage setups that required a lot of attention to detail, so to make sure that the venues that they were performing at read the whole contract, they always requested a bowl of M&Ms backstage with all the brown ones removed. If they either didn't have the candy backstage or the brown ones were still in the bowl, they wouldn't perform because they knew the venue wasn't following their contract. I think a similar thing works for Superman's trunks. If you feel the need to remove them for being too campy or silly or not serious or cool enough, then you probably are going to think of a lot of things regarding Superman that way, and maybe you shouldn't be in charge of the character.
Based Nando once again, I really like that
I agree, you can almost always make an actor look like the comic book character. But you can't change the actor's performance range.
Facts
Whenever people start talking about fan casting, my take is almost always the same: get an unknown. Both because it’s nice to use the notoriety of these iconic characters to showcase new talent, but also it just makes it that much easier to see these actors as the characters rather than a big name actor giving their take on a character. It’s hard to separate Reeves from Superman or Jackman from Wolverine because the general public was introduced to them through these iconic roles that they nailed.
This film should go super hard with depicting Superman as a Mosaic figure. I want Clark to part an ocean with his super breath
That would be amazing, but I prefer the Messiah approach, but they could mix it up uk.
Or we could have him as what he is, a guy trying to do what he thinks is right
@@liammaldonado5610amen! Superman is more interesting when he’s more of a guy than a god, I don’t like it when they treat him like Jesus. Moses would work for me tho because it’s not holding him up to this perfect image
@@liammaldonado5610Or we could have him as both, which is really what he is. You silly goose.
absolutely not
Personally I don’t want either the Christ or Moses allegory for the character. I always preferred when they just said Superman is just a good guy with powers, who happens to be an alien. He shouldn’t be a god or savior to humanity, he should just be a good guy trying to do the right thing.
i heard that bryan cranston went on a podcast saying that people were fan casting him as luthor because he "had a bald head"
I’m happy that superman is being played by a Jewish actor and David is an amazing actor imo. I think I’m feeling the same hype I was for the batman and I was too hyped for that movie 😂😂
I keep hearing how he looks like Cavill, and he kinda does in the facial structure, but what I've also noticed that no one mentions is how he also kinda has Christopher Reeve's hair, spit curl and all! That's what excites me!
David Corenswet has been my number one pick to play Superman for a very long time and to finally see him get the role alongside Rachel Brosenahan who is a superb casting choice to play Lois, this just feels like a *dream come true* 🤩😁
Here's some of my fan castings for other Superman characters:
Wyatt Oleff as Jimmy Olsen
Bruce Campbell as Perry White
Nathan Fillion as Steve Lombard
Sam Weaving as Cat Grant
Lenny James as Ron Troupe
Alexander Skarsgård or Nicholas Holt as Lex Luthor
Pom Klementieff as Mercy Graves
Sam Worthington as Metallo
Tony Todd as Parasite
Ralph Fiennes as Brainiac
Martin Short as Mr Myxzptlk
David Dawson or Will Poulter as Manchester Black
Toby Jones as Toyman
Christopher Judge as Darkseid
Nando V Movies is always so good at fancasting and all of his videos go so in depth and it's very fun
I don’t like all his fancasts but he still is really good about explaining his reasons and just makes really good videos
For example some of his X-Men fancast I’m not fond of but I really like his Wolverine fancast and the video he made
@@JOVONO Yeah, he's not perfect but I think some fancasts are spot on, and I agree he's very good about explaining reasoning behind stuff
Even though I still feel the wounds of my favorite Superman, Henry Cavill being taken out (and being the first thing James Gunn did in his reign as the president of DC), I think David Corenswet will blow us out of the water and potentially be the most ideal looking Superman yet. It’s time we had a hero that makes us become better people.
Personally I think Corenswet looks more like Tom Welling than Henry Cavill
Bald Tom Holland is an image I will never forget.
Okay, here’s a hot take. Superman needs his own Spider-Man No Way Home. I don’t mean multiverse stuff, but more putting him in a situation where he can rehabilitate and help all his enemies. Superman has a long line of history of believing in second chances, so to see him try to help those who has done so much wrong to him would feel so rewarding in my opinion.
Charlie Hunnam would be a great green arrow though, he’s can be charismatic & can really nail the serious and emotional scenes. Watch Sons of Anarchy, it’s a really great show.
Corenswet was also my champion for a while, especially when he himself mentioned wanting to play Superman years ago. When I saw him in Hollywood years ago I thought he'd be a good Clark Kent and I feel so validated now
I'm VERY excited for David Corenswet's take on the Man of Steel too. There were too many fancasts of him wearing the suit and I definitely think that he looks perfect in the suit and the role. I can't wait for both your prewrite of the film, and James Gunn's Superman: Legacy.
I disagree about not seeing characters look like they stepped off the page. That's the point! They have that iconic look that fans have gotten attached to & to see someone playing a well-known character & barely or not even resembling them at all creates a discrepancy.
Corenswet looks like Kal-El/Clark in terms of physicality. He will easily match the iconic look. It will be page-to-screen for both Corenswet & Brosnahan. It won't be jarring like Jimmy Olsen in the Arrowverse Supergirl. That dude could have been John Henry Irons/Steel, though Wole Parks is killing it in S&L. Bald & jacked with a deep, commanding voice is NOT Jimmy Olsen.
Oh & I imagine Gunn's going to add the trunks, but I think Cavill & Hoechlin have proven that the trunks aren't necessary.
I love and agree on your take on fan casting so much! Great video
4:20 the fact that he predicted the Guy Gardner casting
Was waiting for this video. Troyoboyo knows the videos I need, man never fails.
This man always out here making banger videos
Ur too good to me sting ❤️🥺
@@troyoboyo17 welcome Troy
Just having a Jewish actor playing such a beautiful and joyful character like Superman is amazing for us, so excited to see what David brings to the role and I'm sure he will make us all proud.
Okay, hear me out...
Leslie Odom Jr. as Lex Luthor
YES
both were my top picks from day 1 so i am ecstatic.
i can't help myself from being filled with hope for the future of the DCEU. after the new suicide squad film, i trust gunn to stay true to superman as a character and figure.
that aside, i think casting david corenswet was a fantastic choice. i've seen all of his work and believe he could portray both superman's and clark's demeanor perfectly.
here's hoping!
I was flattered that they announced this new Superman on my birthday
i honestly thought you had at the very least 500k subs. you definetly deserve that!
I am so happy with the Corenswet casting. A personal and internet fandom fancasting that actually came true. IN terms of what movie we might get, I like to reference the recent Superman: Man of Tomorrow. It's literally a Superman: Year Two. Not an origin story per se but early enough in Supes career to have major growing pains.
I'm so happy someone finally mentioned this, Superman being played by a Jewish actor is a huge deal and more people should be talking about it more!
Good for you bringing up the Jewish thing! I’m Jewish and I knew about the creation of the character but I didn’t know David C’s Jewish. Neat!
Ok your fancast was ok???? But hear me out my fancast for Batman being Chris Pratt it just works in every way that I won’t explain
Tom Holland to be cast as midnighter and Apollo nobody can know coz midnighter wears a mask 😮
Superman's alienation to the people on Earth was to signify Jewish Americans. I think that is something they could deal with. Krypton Remembrance Day was also to signify The Holocaust Remembrance Day.
That Superman picture on the right is comedy gold.
You nailed everything I LOVE about Superman
Honestly I am not into the whole fancast thing but I will say that despite not knowing anything about David Corenswet, I think that he is an interesting choice. It's kinda cool to have a cast of unknown actors in a blockbuster cause it adds unique flavor to the film rather than casting the most popular/sexiest people.
The thing I’m not looking forward to is Batman being way older than Superman again and them starting off with Damien Wayne in Brave and the Bold
I think most people want a proper depiction of Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin
Also I hope now they recast the Flash and get rid of that creep Ezra Miller
I’m sooooo excited for the new Superman movie 😍
David Corenswet looks more like young Brendan Fraser than Henry Cavill to me.
Wait holy shit true
Fuck a late 90s Superman movie with Brendan Fraser and Courtney Cox would have been fucking perfect
@@troyoboyo17 Hoping the rumor that Fraser is in talks for Pa Kent is true at least.
As for other roles in the DCU and who could play them my hope is that they incorporate characters of different age ranges, really build out that sense of a pre-established world by not having everyone be starting out their superhero careers or all in their 30's.
Characters like Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen would work great with slightly older actors, closer to middle age or maybe even a bit older. I know I'd sure like to see Hal with the white hairstreaks but more importantly seeing as he's going to be in a series with John Stewart, that more experienced aspect and potential interplay could be fun. I think that could also really work for Oliver since on top of he and Hal being friends we've had a lot of younger live-action iterations of Green Arrow already, and with takes like the DCAU I feel like he works really well as a character who's been through a lot and and all those unspoken past experiences reinforce why he's so dead-set in his beliefs.
Barry Allen could maybe go that slightly older direction, but I think the smart thing for having a lasting franchise would be to pull an MCU Captain America and build out the Flash legacy over time. Have Barry already as the Flash for a few films, flesh out his world and build up Wally as a side character alongside him, then later on have Wally take the mantle.
I get some people wanting Wally to be the Flash for the new DCU and I'm not against that, I just think maybe it makes more sense if they want it to last to give Barry Allen a few outings first then they can always have Wally take over later. It would also be fun to maybe see Barry retire rather than vanish or die, maybe have him with Iris helping to raise their kids since the show never went into that. We've seen the whole 'new hero trying to live up to the recently dead hero/mentor' story a few times in comic book films already, but we've not seen as much involving retired or part-time superheroes with now matured sidekicks, I think that would be a fun angle to explore.
Something I’ve been loving recently is the new Superman animated series and something I think could be carried over is the suit. If the red bandanna for Raph in the live action TMNT carried over to the animated show and movie coming up than that banger suit should come along with it. Also it gots the trunks and also it’s really detailed and modern
I definitely get what you’re saying when you say that you’re happy that they casted a Jewish actor for this role, but at the same time I don’t think it matters. The charter has changed and evolved so much since his creation that he isn’t just the one version of Superman that he was a the start. Especially since (to my knowledge) there hasn’t been any content we’re Superman himself has been portrayed as Jewish.
I am watching Hollywood, and wow, what a show and everyone is very good in the show but david corenswet he is the best part about this show his performance is so great I can't wait to see him as superman
The desktop for that monitor in the background broke me.
At the end of the day i just want a good Superman movie
imagine if this time they got the real mark zuckerberg to play luthor.
tbh mark zuckerberg can play brainiac if he wants to
I cant wait

Thanks for your openness talking about some of the themes that have made superman the character he is. It's uncommon to see people talk about faith related connections without being derogatory, and mocking religious matters. Thanks for the objectivity. Just wanted to make a note as a Christian, I don't think in recent media Superman has been painted in this light, if anything, a genuine Christian I think would view him as an anti-Christ figure, a human/or alien worshiped. At least that is how he was depicted in Man of Steel. I think the Jewish connections and depictions actually tie way more to the lead up to the one true Messiah/Christ! In the story of Moses you mentioned, he was sent by God to save his people. He wasn't the GOD of the story (essentially he was the one who "saved them", not "SAVED them" if that makes sense), he was the simple man doing the right thing, doing what God made him for, whereas the new depictions of superman seem to make superman the god, by striping the original faith values from the universe and character and having him be the one that rises up and "SAVES" (not "saves") humanity as if he was meant to be their god, at least it doesn't seem Superman would view himself that way.
Wanted to say thanks again for the video and wanted to share a different perspective, mainly to sum it up: the more modern superman depictions have been morally gray alien dude is worshiped as a god, as opposed to Superman in his original character, is a simple man trying to do the right thing, and isn't about an alien man transcending humanity to be a god. Thoughts?
Did someone say ENGAGEMENT?
He looks like Superman and that’s all I need
Loving the hair my man
Excited to see what they do with Superman!! My initial casting was David Wolk which also could've been the first Jewish casting for Superman.
I'm just hoping they actually cast a red haired actor to play Jimmy Olsen, or have the actor they cast dye their hair.
My casting for Jimmy Olsen is *Wyatt Oleff* who I believe was born as a red head and actually worked with James Gunn before playing Young Peter Quill in the GOTG movies, and has played Stanley in the IT movies. He also starred in the Netflix show I Am Not Okay With This (2020) where he really give off Jimmy's dorkiness and personality.
He's also currently 20 years old
I hope Superman is good because we need a good dcu
"L.L? That could easily be Lois Lane"
"Lana. Lang."
Superman For All Seasons is a banger
I want the black, red, gold symbol in the film and by the end of the film, him wearing the classic one
I am very hyped for this movie hearing that James gun is in charge gives me that same level of hype that I got from the guardians movies one character I really want to see in this movie in just a cameo is Batman I want their friendship to be established they are best friends in the comics brothers even I am tired of seeing a Batman v superman I want the best friends the worlds finest
Love every opening 'ah'
Keep it up Troy
Also should cast Ed O'Neill as either Bibbo Bibbowski or Perry White

I have no idea if you'd be into this, but I'd love a video on the speed racer show from the 90s
The Ms Marvel show portrayed her heritage a lot so doing the same with Superman isn’t out of the question
i really do hope that we have a return of the hopeful rolemodel superman, a true paragon
i think the new 52 suit with the trunks would be a good choice imo, like the fortnite skin.
I’m not huge on the collar of the New 52 suit but the Fortnite model is a banger
Actually just make the fortnite model the main character scrap Corenswet
@@troyoboyo17 everyone has their prefernces, and i know its not the internets favorite era of DC but new 52 is what brought me into comics when it launched when i was in high school. im fine with either armor or cloth material, however if they go armor i hope it doesnt look plasticy and if they go cloth that they dont do what the superman and lois show does where his muscles are a different shade of blue to the rest of the suit so you know they exist.
THANK YOU, they NEED to have Superman wear trunks again
I honestly feel that this narrative that Superman is boring, old fashioned and isn't relevant in the modern age is directly tied to his red trunks being removed.
I'm fully on board with David as Clark, and this video only cemented my on-board-ness. as for others i'd like to see in the movie, i'd really like for Parasite to be the main villain but it's looking like it might be The Authority, based on the recent Grant Morrison one where Manchester Black is a member, so i'm predicting it's gonna be loosely based on "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, And The American Way?" which also makes me quite excited.
i know they said it's gonna be based on All Star but i think its likely gonna be a mix of the two, i doubt they're gonna adapt the actual plot of all star and just use the tone and moode as a blueprint, and also use it to pad out a shorter story like What's So Funny.
All I need from this movie now, is the trunks. I hate Superman's look without it, it just looks wrong, like there is too much blue, and not enough red in the suit.
As someone who picked up the current comic on superman, you don't even notice the trunks half the time. I only ever look at the logo anyways.
I think they should give Superman modern underwear or wtv. Like the suit is modern but it has those trunks that are apart of the suit
6:56 If they wanted to have Henry come back for a cameo they could have him play Jor-El (Clark's biological dad)
Happy Birthday David! (I’m writing this on the 7th)
The bomb’s payload is exposed. I can use the power winch to trigger a controlled explosion.
I’m proud of you dick.

Charlie Hunnam would be an amazing Green Arrow dude. He's played a bunch of roles that have aspects of Oliver Queen, and meshing them together would be a really smart choice. Examples: King Arthur (playing an established and popular character), The Lost City of Z and Papillion (survival and the toll it takes on mind and body), and Triple Frontier for the action (though he's done a lot of action in other works). I also have no doubt he could play the douchey billionaire playboy as well as the hardened vigilante who disarms situations with humor. Hell, if they ONLY did Green Arrow Year One by Andy Diggle and Jock it would be super good, Jock even drew Oliver like Charlie, much how Bryan Hitch drew Nick Fury as Samuel L. Jackson in Ultimates.
He confirmed he was offered the role but sadly turned it down cause he didn’t know anything about the character
@@WhiteHeavenRuckus99 I knowwww that's why it pains me so much! I feel like if he read Year One he would feel a bit differently.
I’ve always been a fan of fancasting, and I wholeheartedly agree with your take of how boring a lot of them feel. 90% are based solely off of looks and keep as close as possible to the comic designs which is just boring some times. Especially with female characters too, people will just see a hot woman with the right hair color and pick her. It’s just lazy
Bro your takes are awesome. Not only are they informative ( the Superman/Jewish origins)
They also have me thinking of stuff In new ways!
I’m so hyped for David Corenswet I absolutely loved him in Pearl his performance was amazing
