Is it possible to turn off the camera’s IR illuminator so that an external IR illuminator can be used on its own? Advantages: greater night vision range if you use a more powerful external IR illuminator and less spiders and bugs will be attracted to the camera if the IR illuminator is mounted away from the camera.
It looks good. What's missing from most reviews is the ability to read and identify license plates on a moving vehicle. That's the one thing an officer needs (per our local cops). Without that information, tracking down an individual becomes a matter of personal recognition.
Your Synology reviews have me seriously considering them and swapping out some Hikvision and LTS systems because the smartphone app experiences are so bad. How does the Synology DS Cam smartphone app stack up with Ubiquiti? Ubiquiti has more stars in the app store, but your input would be way more valuable...
Unifi cameras are more like Apple products, they are good but lock you into their ecosystem. Synology has a much more flexible systemn and the mobile app works well.
Does its capabilities add to the Deep Learning Synology NVRs? Or don't? If I have a DVA1622 and already using face recognition task on a Reolink Doorbell, if I add the BC500 will the DVA1622 be then adding to the DVA1622 or will I be still hit the constraint of one face recognition at a time on one camera?
China firmware aside - I'm still happy with my hikvision cameras. Been using them a little over two years now. Isolated with no internet access. They perform quite well and are not very expensive.
Unfortunately I have had replaced two out of four of these due to image distortion and now I have a third one with a fogging lens. Off to try out the Amcrest ones now :(
As a long term ubiquity fanboy, I am starting to wish I wasn't locked in to Unifi protect ... Their stuff is nice but they're too much like Apple. Needs to be more open so I can play around with Synology stuff more.
I appreciate the camera reviews. Thank you.
Great video. Seems like both synology and unifi protect are making lots of changes. Would be great to see an updated comparison video.

I'm looking forward to learning about this Synology topic. CU in your past videos, lol.

Weird, we have not had any issues with them.
Weird these are hard to find
What Amcrest cameras are you using? They all look the same.

Will those work with my DS218+? I have upgraded also the ram to 8gb.

Any guesses if it's just rebranded. OEM such as hikvision or dahua with the synology logo
These are manufactured in Taiwan I think.
1/2.7 sensor and 2.8mm only?
going to be bad at night and bad at identifying people that are a few feet away (look up D.O.R.I.)
All rest of the world Meters, USA: feets, why dont you use "elbows" :D
What's your opinion on these cameras not being 4K resolution? Did you feel you missed anything visually that say, a 4K Amcrest would give you?
