To note: 1:45 fire in zero gravity behaves like plasma.
That thing which happened to Naomi's control panel at the start of the episode was just a fire. That's what fire looks like in zero-G. She put it out by evacuating all the air in the shuttle
In zero G, fire is mostly spherical and behaves a lot like water.
Prob because it's just burning gas xD
Ah one of my favourite episodes hearing two opinions of what the identity a belter has to take for them to be accepted by the inners. what great conversation between Ashford and Drummer. God the dialogue in this show, it is so good. Cant wait for the next 2 episodes.
Cara Gee sends it in that conversation
"If this is another one of your teaching lessons, I prefer to bleed out".
@@billross7245 one of the best lines on the whole show lol
The song Ashford and Camina sing together while stuck is called “The ballad of Captain Kidd”
1:26 that's what flames look like in zero-g; flames have their teardrop shape thanks to gravity. Without it, it just becomes a sphere and billows outwards.
It’s lit
In the books, you learn the Rev. Dr. Anna spent a few years as a missionary, on Ceres.
Everybody who works with Belters has to learn to work in space.
All the painkillers she took were also messing with her judgement. :)
Watch that exploding star sequence, more slowly.
Also, fire makes those globe shapes, in Zero-G.
Some astronauts who viewed that sequence said the show got it, exactly right.
Next episode is pretty awesome.:)
also iirc in the books they say she had just came from Europa? (the moon)
@@sparrowlt yeah she did, she ran a small church there or something
Re: Dead Martian from last episode. The generally accepted term is "human spackle".
10:20 She's slingshotting around The Station to get to the Roci faster; like the Belter who opened the Ring was doing. She knows she won't break the speed limit herself with the momentum of its gravitational pull. It was faster than going in a straight line and she wouldn't run out of air.
Edit: 7:08 You can see her plot the course on the computer right before Anna finds her at the airlock.
Spin da Drum. Belters to the rescue.
The one time belters do literally anything positive in this show. Not bad.
@@CaptainNuclear235 Fred Johnson and his stolen nukes disagree. So do those belters who helped Miller redirect Julie away from Earth. The do-gooders and willing casualties in the Weeping Somnambulist also disagree. And so on and so on.
@@AngeloBarovierSD A) Fred was an earther that threw in with the belters. He had great intentions.
(FAT SPOILERS STOP READING ETCETC)
So ignoring the fact he stole nukes and kept a sample of the PM (Despite repeated warnings by the human races foremost expert), he was then shot by "true belters" (the inaros) for trying to make their lives better.
And that's really the rub isn't it? Every time an individual or group gains power within the belters , the other ones kill them. The OPA and Dawes were the big bad early seasons, now inaros claims to speak for the belters and disavows the OPA.
I don't rememeber any belters helping miller, I'm pretty sure eros was dead by the time he got on.
But hey, one single ship tried to do some good once. So.
Over and over, the belters have murdered, pirated, and been general dicks. The very first thing that happens in S4 when the earthers were coming was they attempted to kill the entire shuttle of people. Scientists and regular people.
The inaros stage the most brutal terrorist attacks in human history and proclaim belters own the entire universe outside of mars. Despite the fact belters are too pathetically weak to live on planets. They would have to become inners to colonise.
And on top of that, Inaros free navy and his grand plans consist of stolen and bought martian tech, a couple of stealth asteroids, and using people as human shields. Belters have no art, no science, no military, industry, central government, laws. They are not a nation, they are just pirates and miners.
Belters can go fuck themselves. Mostly. I do like a few of them. The good samaritans.
And I do disagree with how little was provided by earth and mars. Doesn't mean you should lob meteors at the birthplace of humanity.
@@CaptainNuclear235 Um, hard disagree about Johnson. He was a former Earther turned Belter, even if some Belters didn't fully accept him.
Moreover, time after time people who were Belters did good things on this show and I, for one, do not see anyone on this show as merely their background. There is no "the Belters", "Earthers", or "Martian" homogeny.
I don't judge a person based on their culture or upbringing. There are several words for doing that and I don't want be the definition of any of them. Nor will I punish them collectively by denigrating them (fictional or real) for any aspects I dislike. Especially if they come from someplace where surviving is a struggle.
Holding your preconceived collective notions against against people is the source of so much unnecessary conflict.
To me, that's kind of the point of the show.
YMMV.
@@AngeloBarovierSD I have no idea what YMMV means. I would also like to clarify that I dislike them from a....aprreciative point. like, they are human and realistic and that's why I dislike them. The writing is incredible. I do not hold any such notions in real life of course, but the belters in the show are utter dicks.
"Professional victims and martyrs." As murty put it.
Yes, murty was a complete corporate cockbag, but those belters did start it, and ran the blockade illegally.
Ha, the one little bit of info they missed (but it was just briefly mentioned thus far) is that all ships have now been attracted to the nucleus and are now in regular orbit around it. Knowing that would have helped them understand some things in their conversation about the journeys between the ships.
I think they did know - well Rick did anyway. He mentioned everything was getting pulled to the centre at about the 24-25 minute mark.
Jesus.
Book Anna takes military grade, uh, stimulants, and in one of the most fantastic chapters ever, just can't stop doing random things and helping people for the next while.
I love how accurately they show how life in space would be
The book has much more believable reason for Anna getting up the nerve to put on a space suit and go after Clarissa. She had a little help from some friends in the form of painkillers and amphetamines. It's funny when the effects start to wear off in the middle of her trip over to the Roci and wonders what the hell she's doing.
Dont be mad at Peaches!
Don’t worry they’re gonna love her in the end
I absolutely love this episode. That spin the drum scene was epic. Leviathan Wales!!
This is the episode I really came to support and accept Ashford and his relationship with Drummer.
That fire scene is 100% accurate. The writers did a video ( I don’t recall where) about getting that effect perfectly right. Another example of why this show is so damned good.
Next week:
"It doesn't care about us, any more that we care about ant hills we pave over."
So true though
The sphere station is 5km diameter, the behemoth is about 2km length
kinda wish they had done it like the book where it was quite much bigger..
@@sparrowlt where does it say that?
@@moproodu oh wait.. i think its 5kms in the books too.. i think i messed up .. because my mind seemed to renember a size like several hundred kms..but yes the book says 5kms... i think im losing my memory (and mind)
@@sparrowlt you're thinking of the ring itself
One of my highlights for this entire arc is just the situation between Drummer and Ashford. They really elevated Ashford from "I'm not entirely sure if I'm behind you" to "oh this guy is an awesome character confirmed" in my eyes within a single episode, he's so good.
Also their shared violent disgust towards Clarissa is just making future episodes better since they're not even wrong in feeling this way As Of Now so I can't wait to hear their thoughts on her later.
This is one thing the show has done really well. I felt next to nothing for Ashford in the book but i do in the show
I love the way that they keep Ashford's motivations close to their chest throughout the first half, constantly forcing you to assess exactly whether he means what he says or is just playing to the gallery, then you get this sequence, then you get... well... what comes next. It's a great illustration of shades of grey, with Drummer having the same basic end goals as both Drummer and other characters, they just have differing opinions on what they have to do to get there. In some instances, we'll never truly know who is ultimately right (and can see the truth in both perspectives) and in others we can see it, but only with outside knowledge or hindsight. Just a great character in general to act as a foil to others on the show.
One of my favorite episodes. I love so much of it; it paid off so many long term plot threads and started getting everyone together.
IT'S HERE, SPIN THE DRUM!!!
Chapeau Aaron, good explanation what that fire explosion on Naomis shuttle was.
"Hopefully she has internal bleeding"😂 ikr
thanks guys, appreciate the time you take with this, and your quirks :)
peace
Great reaction guys!
"holden, what did you see?"
"The reapers are coming uuh i mean protomolecule or something"
Fun fact: the entirety of the plot about the Reapers and why they're doing what they do was 100% plagiarized from the Revelation Space book series by Alastair Reynolds, right down to them being "benevolent". They just changed the name from Inhibitors to Reapers
@@17thknight called it.
@@17thknight Are they good books?
man, i started playing mass effect for the first time, the similarities are uncanny
You guys are gonna love season 4
With a diameter of 960 meters the most external points of the drum must have been moving at around 40 meters per second
For how much G? I think in the books they are usually work with 0.3 G.
@@Deckaio 9.81/3 m/s^2 or 1/3 G. Because that is what the guy in the show said after spinning up the drum.
TV series Ashford is more likeable than book Ashford. I'm relistening and am on this part of Abaddon's Gate, after de Baca "Bull" gets the drum spinning and what follows. I wish they didn't write down Bull's involvement in the story so much.
yeah .. i wish they had writen him and not given so many roles to Drummer and even Ashford (TV Ashford has a bit of Bull too) .. but at least TV show gets Bull later and now if they keep him they are free to use him more in S6
@@sparrowlt Fair enough if they do. Plus there's also the whole situation with the guy that plays Alex and how they're going to play it moving forward.
P.S. Waiting patiently for Leviathan Falls and the audio book to release.
Hey Blindwave, do you guys realize that the guy turned into the floor tile is the actor playing Shang Chi in Marvels film
Camina Drummer is the best and this episode proves it.
In the book Anna was pretty high on pain meds so her taking the vacsuit and following Melba is partially explained by that
Drummer da real MVP! 💪
Season three is so epic
Fire in zero G is a bit of a horrifying thought. With gravity, at least you can sort of figure out where it's going to go and how to stop it. But a fire that can spread unrestricted in all directions....... Your only option seems to be to vent the compartment.
"you came in its hole" :D
1/3 G has a reason:
As we will see later in the serie many Belters cant live much longer even in 1G due to them having grown in low G (or even zero G).
So most of the ships travel acelerating at 1/3G and all the stations (Pallas, Eros, Ceres) spin at 0.3G as a kind of compromise ..
Belters can tolerate 0.3G well , Martians are well adapted since Mars has 0,38G and earthers dont mind the weight reduction..
I do wonder if the Naovoo was designed for the drum to rotate so it generates 1 full G.. since it was to be crewed by earther Mormons who would eventually move to another planet presumibly earth like..it would be a dissaster to travel for 150 years and get there to find a earth like planet only for you not being able to live on it because you have been born in 0.3G same as your mother same as your grandmother..
No Notification again this week!
You guys seriously need to watch banshee with Anthony Starr
Pastor Mother-f*cking Anna, son!
Spin da drum!
We've reached the infamous "SPIN THE DRUM" episode!
19:47 Thought my phone had gone off
fire in zero g is just a weird sphere looking thing
Nearly on to the best season!!
Remember the CANT
P E A C H E S
1:40 its Zero-G fire
I still don't get why the seat belt sign wasn't on
How many people are dead?
-yes
Do I have a problem since I watched all of these in 48 hours?
15:30
Guys remember episodes 12 and 13 kinda are 1 episode, dont do it to yourselves to cut it in two :) watch both together :)
the zero made me a little motion sick
They seem to be very unfairly harsh towards the Martians.
space racism starts early
"... this f show", yes.
Peaches on her way to better herself, looking forward to it.
I love how mad you guys get when the episode ends.... just. Play the next one
EXPANSE!
S.W.A.T
Anna is proof that Methodism is the one true faith, thank god we have that cleared up.
Eric about Melba: "I hate her!"
Me: "Oh, no, you won't." :D
this might be a pointless spoiler
@@zoe_blackmore They don't read the comments.
Season 3 just now? Jesus, the slowpoke patrol strikes again.
Eric: hating on clarissa
Me: can't wait for your reaction to season 5 😂
the is really no need to say anything about future episodes
Seriously?
@@zoe_blackmore they don't read comments
@@MoviesAndTvShowsAreSubjective Other people do, though, who are watching the show for the first time, and then watching the reaction.
This show is great, and it continues to steadily gain an audience.
Don't wreck it, for the new viewers.
@@zoe_blackmore I've been following them for a few years now and I know they don't read comments so yeah 🥺 but I apologize
Yep, Eric, we get you don't like Clarissa Mao, don't have to voice that displeasure every single time she's on screen xD
Wonder how he'll react later.
Yeah, it's getting a bit annoying.
@@rmvdhaak I get where he's coming from though. This IS first contact and should be handled with weight and not let our individual hatreds fuck it up. But we wouldn't be humans if we didn't do all that.
I find it funny and is exactly the same way I reacted to her at first. She's supposed to be disliked. She isn't a sympathetic villain... yet.
When did your feelings for her start to turn? And have you read the books?
I can tell eric has has already seen this season so his reactions are fake
