I think Larrys realized that Aemond sees right through him, so his only option for climbing the chaos ladder must be with Aegon as ruler... So he's placing all his bets on his recovery, and I think he actually believes the dragon rumors, but chose to withhold it because he knows it's gonna have a long term effect on Aemond's tactics.
Alyn and Addam of Hull are the best new characters of this season, they are 2 lowborn blue collar workers who rise to power through chance but don’t immediately let that power corrupt them because they remember who they are and where they come from.
They're both very humble guys. Addam is the one who's more ambitious and yet when he gains a dragon, he instantly bows to Rhaenrya and tells her all he wants is to serve her.
Willem Blackwood was on the regent for his nephew, hopefully now that Willem is gone that opens the door for Benjicot to take his place within the story. Benjicot and the young lord Tully form a strong friendship and lead the black army through the rest of the war, they turn out to be some of Rhaenyra’s greatest champions, hopefully the show in S 3 sticks to that
Ben will also be like Oscar Tully here; sure he's a kid, but he's an absolute badass. Hopefully we'll also get to meet his aunt, Black Aly. Cregan Stark will especially be eager to meet her.
@@beeeeeesburyI don’t know about definitely cut? There’s plenty of room for her to get introduced later. It’d be a pretty bad look for them to cut her in a story about women in power.

I know a lot of people probably think that Larys not believing/telling Aemond of the rumor are writing him off as just being wrong, but I think there's more to it. He's clearly not a fan of Aemond, Prince Regent. I think he's choosing to withhold information from Aemond to undermine him, whilst doing his utmost to ensure Aegon returns to health to take power away from Aemond. Leaving this whisper to die means Aemond then looks weak later in the episode.
To me this is the only logical answer for him not sharing it - I don’t know why people just assume he doesn’t believe it - did they not see last weeks episode? 😂
I'm ok with that theory but if that's the case then give us an indication he's using this information. We're not seeing him display any real capability as a master of whispers or influencer similar to what Mysaria is doing with her spies in King's Landing. I wonder with him, how does he still have a job, and what exactly is his job if he's not providing crucial information that can be trusted?
Rhaenyra is like "ok everybody, I know you've never been this close to any dragon or have any idea what you should do, but let me show you the second biggest one in the world, and you know, just walk up to it. Ok, see ya!"
The best moment of the episode is Hugh standing up to Vermithor and holding his ground. Hugh is the most worthy dragon rider of all of them. Like Addam he was a lowborn bastard who worked hard his whole life to earn a good life. But sadly he also knows the pain of losing a child, and he wants, no NEEDS to know that all of this pain and suffering throughout his life wasn’t for nothing. And it lead him straight to the Bronze Fury!
@@TheFiddler69 he’s a blue collar man, for him loyalty not absolute, it is earned and lost, and the greens lost it when the locked the city down which led to the death of Hugh’s daughter.
I’m glad you guys picked up on the more religious undertones of Rhaenyra’s reasoning. The episode is littered with themes of religion, from Rhaenyra saying the claiming of Seasmoke to be an act of the gods, to the dragon keepers calling Rhaenyra’s action blasphemous and essentially naming her a heretic. In the bts Condal describes the process of claiming Vermithor as an almost ritualistic sacrifice, and Emma D’arcy (Rhaenyra’s actor) talks about their character taking a turn to spiritual fanaticism. I absolutely love the direction they are taking with this character and I can’t wait to see what they have planned next season.
One of the characters I was most looking forward to seeing in this show after reading Fire and Blood was Oscar Tully. He was truly the MVP of this episode to me. I look forward to seeing more of him and his fellow Lads.
The Blacks currently have: Syrax - Rhanerya's dragon Vermax - Jace's dragon Moondancer - Baela's dragon Caraxes - Daemon's dragon As well as Seasmoke, Vermithor and Silverwing who all have new riders, there's also a big dragon in the vale that Rhaena is showing a lot of interest in. The Greens are severely outnumbered right now, they only have Vhagar and Tessarion, that's Daeron's dragon who has only just become big enough to ride. Sunfyre is out of commission and basically assumed dead. That's likely why Aemond is trying to convince Helena to fight next episode on her dragon Dreamfyre.
Is the dragon in the Vale Cannibal? Among all of the dragons they mentioned until now it's the only one left I think. Or is it another one mentioned only in books?
Well in Harrenhal they say, Oscar Tully's balls grew three sizes that day. Absolute gigachad MVP. Also my boy Hugh "Mungus" Hammer being just the best this episode. I kinda loved/hated seeing people wondering about his significance. As a lore nerd, I could only hold my spoilers for so long, but I managed.
It was nice showing him and Ulf and not just have them pop up at the sowing. A couple of red herring small folk, and leaving all unnamed would have been nice to leave us book folk in suspense. But I still enjoyed the little window into their lives
ABC Presents: "The Bastard" Rhaenyra: "Two dozen cousins, two dragons! Who will rise to the top of royalty? Who will fall into the ashes of the forgotten? In the next twelve ... minutes ... we will find out the truth! Who is the rightful 'Bastard?!"
Hugh is the son of Saera Targaryen-a aunt of Viserys- who was caught with having relations with 3 close male companions. She proposed to her father Jaeharys I that she’d marry all three of them like Maegor did with his wives-which was exactly the wrong button to push with the king since Maegor murdered two of his brothers. After this and after she tried to steal a dragon he killed one of her lovers in a duel while forcing her to watch then tried to send her to become a silent sister (which was mentioned as likely being an empty threat). She escaped and fled to Essos and may still be alive. I’m sure if she heard she’d be laughing hysterically at one of her sons claiming her father’s dragon
There were dozens of houses in old Valyria that were dragon riders. It was never just a Targaryen thing. They were just the one of three remaining houses that had them in old Valyria.
I like how they confirmed Hugh’s mom is Princess Saera Targaryen. She was king jaehaerys daughter. It is said one of her sons really resembles King Jaehaerys maybe Hugh reminded Vermithor of his last rider ☺️
To me, it seemed as if Alicent was contemplating ending it all. When I saw the lake scene in the trailer, it reminded me of Ophelia's death in *_Hamlet_* (especially in Millais' famous painting).
I really wanted to listen to your opinions on Jace’s feelings in this episode 😭 I feel like he’s voicing his own insecurities about who he is. He is a Strong but he isn’t. He is a Velaryon but he isn’t. He is a Targaryen but he isn’t. And this whole war happened because his own people have been pointing fingers at him calling him bastard and questioning his right to the throne. The only thing that made him feel more legitimate was that he had a dragon and now there’s more bastards with dragons like him that could feel more entitled to the throne. I saw that some people on the internet are angry at him but i think they don’t understand where he is coming from 😔
I get it. But that's a problem for later. He won't have a claim to defend if they don't get more dragon riders soon. It's hard to be king if you're dead.

Yes, Dreamfyre. She's been mentioned a couple of times but we have yet to see her except for the one very dark scene in season one when Aemond was looking for a dragon to claim.
I watch a lot of reactions and I can’t for the life of me understand how no one gets how family trees work. Hugh’s mom said “MY BROTHER’s boys.” That means her nephews. Hugh is Viserys and Daemon’s cousin lol
Harwin Strong is his father yes but 2 things….. 1. His claim to the throne does not come from whoever his father was, it comes from Rhaenyra who is definitely his mother so Jace’s claim is still valid as he is legally not a bastard. 2. There have been Targaryens who had dark hair, Jon Snow is the obvious one but Baelor ‘Breakspear’ Targaryen and book Rhaenys both had dark hair so a legitimate Targaryen does not have to have silver hair.
All lords know that in truth he is the bastard, legal or not, when Rhaenyra is dead it will be easy to overcome, just like Hightowers overcame Viserys and his heir. More than that, bringing in bastards as dragonriders will put Jace as equal to them, and with their dragons being larger than Vermax he will almost 100 percent fall. Even if he will sit the throne, a civil war will for sure follow his rule.
the problem with talking about everything legally is that no lord cares. legally Rhaenyra is the heir but you have so many house supporting Aegon. After the war, Jace has black hair and a small dragon. Hugh has white hair and one of the largest dragons in the world. People will be smart to support Hugh.
Don't let Rhaenyra fool you. She saw this as a way of gaining dragonriders while eliminating a large number of possible rivals to her son's claim. While else bring them all out at the same time? And seeing Ulf ride over King's Landing will attract more bastards to the slaughter.
True, though I think the only dragon left on Dragonstone that could possibly be claimed is Grey Ghost. All other Targaryen Dragons either have a rider or are dead.

A Targaryen that sees themselves as a chosen one by the gods, and goes onto say that all their sacrifices were warranted. It’s also why I’ve started to feel her kiss with Mysaria was more sinister than romantic (I mean the music is even sinister). It plays into her trying to be more like the men that ruled before her, like she says in an episode or few before this one.

The 3 wild dragons in the story are Cannibal, sheepstealer and Grey ghost. And Cannibal could very well be bigger than Vhaegar but can’t be sure because no one can really get close enough to him and is just seldomly seen. But in the lore he might just be bigger and older than crotchety old granny V. And Daemons Harrenhals story line is one of my favorite of the season. I love how spooky and haunted house-esc it is. It’s a literal house of horror. And Onlu Jace, Luc and Joffrey are bastards. Viserys and Aegon are trueborn of Daemon and Rhaenerya. And Hugh’s mother is Sara Targaryen. He is cousin to Daemon and Viscerys. His mother was the sister of rhaenys father Aemon. And Daemons and Viserys father Baelon the Brave. And Aemonds younger brother is Daeron and his dragon is Tessaeryon. Probably the most beautiful dragon next to Aegons. It’s a blue/purple

Westerling left when the greens were plotting their coup stating he’s sworn to protect the ruler and he’d return when one sits the throne. In the book he died of old age sometime before aegon usurps iirc.
The leader of the kingsguard did say he was leaving when the green council were conspiring right after the king died and that one dude got killed by Cristan Cole, presumably to join Rhaenyra since he was pissed they weren't honoring the oath. They've said the actor isn't in this season for whatever reason though. Guess he's on the same extremely long boat ride that Gendry took many years later.

"Technically, are Rhaenyra's sons bastards?" Well, yes and no... since they are actually the sons of Rhaenyra and Harwin, they should be considered bastards. However... technically, they aren't really bastards because, Laenor publicly recognized them as his own sons. His acknowledgment, automatically, legitimatizes them (the equivalent of Laenor adopting them as his sons, which is basically what happened). So... yeah, basically, you could consider Rhaenyra's sons bastards or not depending on which definition you want to use. But, technically... Laenor giving them his name saves them from that designation (kinda like an orphan not being technically an orphan anymore once they are adopted).
I think it's pretty funny that most of them have pretty cool sounding fantasy names like Aemond, Daemon, Rheanyra, Viserys, Mysaria, Jacarys... and then there is Ulf...which sounds like the name of some middle aged Swedish bureucrat or like your next door neighbor mowing his lawn. I don't know what the equivalent name would be in the US... like Gary or something. Ulf is the name of the current Swedish prime minister, btw.
Willem Blackwood fucked up by using the Blacks banner when committing his foul deeds. Doubtless he thought to hide behind the crown's authority. Of course Daemon would have no problem getting rid of him, even if his hand was forced by the circumstances.

Doesn't help when the show has at least half it's important cast involved in some sort of weird incest or underage relationships, like how the crew confused Aegon's father as his grandfather cuz his mother is the same age of Rhaenyra.
@@wolhaiiik5387 that has nothing to do with simply knowing what your mom's brother's son is called. In any universe.

This episode’s VIP goes to the young lord Oscar for dog leashing Daemon, the Rogue Prince😂
Straight up
He let his balls hang
Oscar the Tully from Sesame Street who's father was Grover the Tully of the Muppets
HBO knows how to cast their young Lords, Oscar in this show, and Lady Mormont in GoT
Ulf the Sod drunkenly flying over King's Landing to let his buddies know he lived and got picked is so in character, for the show version!
Either that or Silverwing took him on a ride, since she used to live in the dragonpit.
Hugh: “COME OOOOOOON!”
Vermithor: “heh, I like your moxie kid.”
_meanwhile…_
Silverwing: “you were very polite in showing me deference, hop aboard young man.”
I believe Larys knew the seasmoke rumor was true but didnt want Aemond to know about it.
Right because he's holding a grudge since Aemond dismissed him in the last episode. That's why he's pushing Aegon so hard.
Even more, for me he knew about the bastards calling of Rhaenyra, and their departure for Dragonstone.
Oscar Tully is channeling some serious Lady Lyanna Mormont energy 😆
He was only acting that way cause he know daemon need him. If daemon didn’t he would’ve put him in his place for sure.
Jace fear is valid..
Yes but they need to win the war and they need dragons for it
@@anais6654 its not like there aren't more noble lords that have Targaryen blood like Steffon. Rhaenyra is just impatient because she spent weeks being an indecisive ass. Now she HAS to do this.
@@govinddas7876no the problem is the blood of noble house is to thin she says this and those are the ones loyal to her the closest noble family after the veleryons who have perhaps equal amount of Targaryen blood would be the Baratheons but since they aren’t loyal to her all the other houses have at least 1 Targaryen marry into the family at some point that is not enough and it was at least generations ago. Bastards were the next best thing because they have equal Targaryen blood or at least a quarter since the dragon seed probably mated together to make more dragon seeds so there is plenty with half Targaryen blood.
@@Mcherri Are we doing this still when Addam has no Targaryen blood in him? We have no definitive proof of targaryen parentage for Addam and if there is any Targaryen in him its at least 3 or 4 generations earlier. Same as most other houses.

He embraced death, exactly what perhaps (according to rhaenyra) the most ferocious dragon was looking for

Dragon coyly looks at him
"A girl dragon... Oh, sure, I mean of COURSE you're a girl dragon!"
Seasmoke was ready to defend Adam.
Vermithor respected Hugh's courage.
Silverwing thought Ulf was a baby dragon.
Vhagar wanted all the Smoke, but Aemond was smart.

This episode is my third favourite, Rook's Rest and episode 2 clear this for me, then the premiere in fourth.
Most interesting Tully to watch sans Blackfish.
You guys ever hear of that lioness who lost her cubs so it adopted several baby antelopes?
What if that's what happened with Ulf and Silverwing? She just had her clutch and her maternal instincts may have been firing off, seeing how defenseless Ulf looked. Lol. She freakin' adopted Ulf. 😂
Not to mention, Ulf is the grandson of Silverwing's previous rider.
Silvering is also nice to everyone, not only Targs. Very kind dragon.
Larys is playing the long game because he wants Aegon back in power. Any news potentially detrimental to Aemond only benefits his plan to become Hand.

It works really well with the psychology of her character knowing of the prophecy

they didn’t talk about jace and his insecurities in the discussion:((
Hugh Hammer's portrayed by Kieran Bew, who also plays Big Bill O'Hara in the series Warrior (another great role).
Warriors been in their previous 2 polls, don't forget to vote if it makes the list again
The Blacks currently have:
Syrax - Rhanerya's dragon
Vermax - Jace's dragon
Moondancer - Baela's dragon
Caraxes - Daemon's dragon
As well as Seasmoke, Vermithor and Silverwing who all have new riders, there's also a big dragon in the vale that Rhaena is showing a lot of interest in.
They have the biggest and smallest dragons
Why can I imagine Helana riding Dreamfyre while singing Puff the Magic dragon ?
Is the dragon in the Vale Cannibal? Among all of the dragons they mentioned until now it's the only one left I think. Or is it another one mentioned only in books?

Underrated comment!
Yes, exactly this. Saera was also known to have at least 3 bastard sons, but may have also had other children.
Vhagar wanted all the smoke in that last scene.
I absolutely love the sound design for the dragons. I think they’ve really nailed the details of each one and made them feel unique in their own way.
There were dozens of houses in old Valyria that were dragon riders. It was never just a Targaryen thing. They were just the one of three remaining houses that had them in old Valyria.
Hugh would be a cousin of Daemon and Viserys.
First saw the Hugh Hammer actor in Warrior. From that performance, can’t wait to get more of him here…and his glorious beard
@@andrewking9454 Rhaenyra could look through the history books to find more noble lords instead of bastards. If she did that instead of being an indecisive ass for weeks now, this could have been prevented.

I actually laughed out loud at the "his who" from Eric when Aaron called Viserys his grandpa
24:55 Eric frantically writing while simultaneously reading the subtitles and watching the show is such an inspiration
Man Oscar tully really commanded that scene.
Vhagar old she-dragon, Silverwing she-dragon and Vermithor he-dragon
Could you imagine that last scene if Seasmoke, Moondancer, Vermax & Caraxes were all there too. The show of power.
@@rev0568 they are also cannibal who they will probably try to claim but ultimately fail.
It's a nice theory but there's nothing to suggest this was her plan. She thinks one step at a time. Jace thinks 10 steps ahead.

Harold Westerling abandoned the Kingsguard when they made the decision to place Aegon on the throne. It was the same scene when Criston killed Beesbury by slamming his head into the ball on the table in Season 1.

The amount of dragons team black has now is crazy
This was my favorite episode of the season. It had squatting and shouting at the screen, on the edge of my seat, and loved every moment

Young Lord Tully was impressive, his actor did a great job.
I took the alicent portion of the episode as an ophelia thematic, so she might have drowned right there, especially since when asked when she'll return she answered she doesn't know if she even would at all.

Garp was kidnapped by a crazy granola lesbian to go on her maybe-suicide trip to the woods it's actually fucking hilarious if u think about it... like the craziest adult version of teen rhaenyra running into the kingswood with criston
That last shot was fkn epic! In the words of The Rock, "JUST BRING IT!"
Can't wait for the next episode, anyway, great reaction Wave Crew!
We need Clancy Brown in this series. He’d make a hell of a good Triarchy Pirate. He needs to be in EVERYTHING.
The Queens Guard in the beginning is also the dad in 300 and Achilles' loyal soldier in Troy. He's awesome.
Actor who plays Hugh (Kieran Bew) was also Bill O'Hara on _Warrior_ . Excellent show, I highly recommend it.
