  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2001 Mustang Bullitt Edition may look familiar to movie fans and that's because it harkens back to the 1968 390 fastback Mustang that Steve McQueen drove in the movie Bullitt. The 2001 Mustang Bullitt is based on a Mustang GT but added some special bits to make it drive and performa better including high-flow mufflers, Tokico shocks, red brake calipers with the Mustang Logo and a few engine tweaks to make it a bit more powerful. What makes this car unique and why will do we think it will eventually go up in value with classic cars collectors? And how long will it take before the car becomes collectible? And of course how fast is it from 0-60 MPH? Those are questions that we answer in this new feature and modern collectible drive and review.

    With all the exotics and high end rides you guys review I appreciate the fact you guys took notice and reviewed the Bullitt as an owner I know how truly special they are. They are not the fastest,not the best of quality build materials, but they have tons of character and muscle car feel, and are a Blast to drive. Thanks for sharing guys!!

    Would have gone A LOT faster with the traction control OFF. When the green light is on the dash it means the throttle is being limited

      And shift at redline. Looked like he shifted at 5500 rpm. Unless it falls flat after 5k rpm.

      @angelgjr1999 4 года назад +9

      midrangetorque I have a 2003 GT. Yeah these Mustangs don’t like going above 5,400 rpm. What kills these cars acceleration is traction control. It literally cuts gas to the engine when it detects wheel spin. He could’ve done 7 seconds or less without it. Maybe 5.5 seconds at sea level.

    • @mercury0214
      @mercury0214 4 года назад

      Angel Gutierrez power isn’t much after 5400 but 5600 is stronger than 5000 so shift at 6 grand to put yourself right back in the power band

    • @angelgjr1999
      @angelgjr1999 4 года назад

      Ok Dokey Yes man but mine has 4.10 gears. I do almost 3k rpm in 4th gear at 50 mph. I can shift at 5.5 rpm and still be in the power curve.

    I worked for a Ford dealer when these came out, and did a PDI (inspection) on one of these. I remember when I did the road test everyone was asking me questions about it at stoplights, and telling me how cool it was and sounded.

    Just bought one of these cars! And also realized you had the traction control on during your acceleration run...You can hear the engine bog and see the little green tire symbol that tells you it was activated.
    Great video in any case, certainly helped decide my purchase decision!

    I own a V6 01 "New Edge" with 70,000 on it. I love the 99-04 look. Always have. Even the V6 with stock pipes has a roar that you don't get from other V6's. I love this car. I just got 336 out of 12.7 gallons ( mostly highway). That's amazing for a 20 year old car. I know V8 people but my baby goes if I need her to with no regrets. Mustangs of this year are so cherry!

    Great video guys! Bullitt is one of my favorite movies and that car chase is just so much fun to watch! Ford made a newer version of the Bullitt mustang after they introduced the retro styled body back in 2005. I think it was either in 2006 or 2007 that they made it cause my dad and I saw one at one of the local Ford dealers and took it for a drive. Same green color and just a cool car all around! We weren't interested in buying one at the time but it was cool to test drive one.

    What makes the 01 bullitt special is the intake manifold, factory brembo brakes, side scoop delete, seats, sails, gauges, and mudflap side skirts. These cars are holding their value very well and if you want one right now is the best time to buy them since their value is near its bottom.

    Just saw this as a suggested video and two things. The first is that it's amazing to see how much the professionalism of their filming has become but also it's kind of amazing to know how much their height changes things. Now...given...it's a 2V Mustang which was never and will never be fast without at least a blower of some sort, but it is kind of cool to know my 2014 F-150 has a self tested 0-60 average of 7.20 for a 5500 pound truck.

    I never realized how much of an impact sea level had. I know for sure I can get somewhere between 5.5-6 seconds just depending on the time of day down here in New Orleans. Only mods is a air intake and a intake manifold (more of a repair though to be honest),

    Everybody who knows New Edge Mustangs knows that the V8 engines in the Bullitt, Mach 1, and Cobra were all under rated by the factory on purpose. The Bullitt was about a half second faster through the 1/4 mile than the standard GT and these cars ARE collectible. Nice examples are selling for twice as much as the GTs.

    Dude, I have a Black Bullet, and the way you were yacking your lip and not watching what the hell you were doing around that car, I'd never let you near mine. In fact, gonna warn the Bullittheads about this. These cars are rare and people take care of them, and that car was meticulously detailed. You should respect other people's cars and treat them better than your own. If that's how you treat collector's cars, I sincerely hope you don't own any.

    I had an 04 black 40th anniversary with gold stripes. I've had faster and nicer cars but I loved that car. It sounded amazing and pulled a lot of guys on the streets of south Florida with just some basic bolt ons.
    I think 2 areas where the car mags messed up was the 2v needs to be wound all the way out then power shifted. Stock I ran 14.1@98 literally the day I bought it. With x pipe tune and intake it ran mid 13s@105ish. Which for 2004 wasn't bad! My later 3v car was quicker but never sounded as good as the 2v and didn't feel as raw and alive.
    I wouldn't mind having a new edge again, especially a bullet.

  • @JimF1981

    Yeah I have to agree. The only reason I believe the Mach 1 to be more of a collector car than the Bullit is that it had more actual performance parts. I have been in love with the Mustang since I saw my first Fox body in popular mechanics lol. I have been reading your comments and you definitely know your cars.

      The Mach 1 in these Gen 4’s came out for just 2 years….03 & 04. That’s the years that the Cobra’s were Supercharged. The Mach 1 is basically the same car as the Cobra’s from pre 03 & 04. The 03 & 04 Mach 1 come with the DBL overhead cam heads and have some other cosmetic features that are different than the Cobra’s. Unlike the Cobra you could get the Mach 1 with either a standard or automatic transmission. The Mach 1 also came with the functional Ram Air Shaker Hood, something that the Gen 4 Cobra’s never came with.

    I came from the generation that loved the movie "Bullitt" & am a GREAT LOVER of the mustang. My beau & I own a 2001 Bullitt. It only has 2500 miles on it. We don't get to enjoy it because he wants to preserve it. I HATE THAT!! If my choice, I would drive this thing at least once a week. I am telling you. It is a sweet fast ride. I had a SC State Trooper ask me if it was fast last time I drove. I told him to follow me down the road, clock me, & let me know how fast it went. He laughed and said he wished he could. I grew up driving & working on muscle cars. My brother always drove Chevys & we used to race down the road in front of house. Those were the days!!!

      +Pam Mullis Ya, I'm trying to keep my Bullitt in reasonable condition, but I still drive it about 3k-5k a year. It's garaged in winter and most rain. I've got a Jeep to beat on when I know I'm going someplace with gravel roads and you can't really let the engine loose in the rain anyway. I sometimes wish I had gone with a regular GT so I could feel freer with it. My wife insists I enjoy the car now. Who am I saving it for? If one of my nieces or nephews wants it "like new", let them restore it when I'm too old to drive.

    I got a 2000 mustang, dark green, and I was told it has a bullitt performance package. I wouldn't know, all I know is it has 100 more horsepower than my old mustang, and I've already won three races in the few weeks I've owned it. I bought it from a salvage yard, it was rebuilt. And I paid 2500 cash for the whole thing. Do you guys think it was worth it? Because everyone around me, including myself think it was worth it, regardless of its problems.

    I would say the Supercharged Saleen is probably the most collectable of this car. Of course those were like $40 or $50k new I think.

    What is your threshold for "modern" collectible? Assuming a 2001 came out in 2000, its 13-14 years old

    A 2011 to 2014 3.7 V6 Mustang it's pretty much a drivers race with this car although I think the bullet would have the advantage on top end

    yeah but the fiesta has been revitalized with newer technology from 2013. this car is more than a decade old. just like the new mustangs have 400+hp naturally aspirated. modular ford v8s have gone through some changes.

    To S2Kracer. Yeah, you're right about all those fake cosmetics. I love it!! I own a convertible 2000 GT with ALL that INCLUDING the wing in the back. All we want is to impress our particular peer group. My coworkers drive some of those ricers and they steer away from messing with my Mustang. I'm even about to install a boost gauge on the steering column for my normally aspirated engine! That'll impress them even more!

      Maybe your coworkers only want to impress their particular peer group....
      If I still had my prelude I had back in high school id mess with your mustang any day. no mustang driver ive met wanted to get their feelings hurt by that car.
      Youre compairing one small group of people to the entire fanbase behind hondas. Its like me saying all mustang or ford fans are self centered ass holes. This i know is not true because ive met a couple cool mustang drivers and they respected other opinions even when it differed theirs, something i guess they all cant seem to understand.

    I don't know that these will ever be seen as a desirable New Edge. Even the Mach 1 is just now beginning to become desirable. Until the the last few years if it was a New Edge and it wasn't a Terminator most people just didn't care. I had a '99 GT that i absolutely loved and now i have a '03 Mach 1. From what i can tell, even a nice Bullitt brings less than have of what a comparable Mach 1 brings.

    One of the best looking and sounding Mustangs Ford Motor Co. ever built. May not be the fastest , but who gives a rat's ass when your ride is a total blast to drive ?

    I owned DHG 5337. Sold it about 7 years ago. Best sounding mustang from the factory imo. It was slow as shit but still a cool car to own. I wish I would have kept it as a collector car. Oh well I love my coyote even better.

    lol to be fair I would include the Integra Type R. Unmolested originals are almost impossible to come by and I would add the MK IV Supra as well again unmolested originals almost impossible to find. My personal favorite however has got to be the NSX.
