Kinda baffling that no one picked up on the lack of character depth and tension throughout the whole seasons scripts and didn't think to add in even a single tiff

Because Ncuti was filming another show, RTD didn't have him on screen long enough to build his character or his relationship with Ruby. He got around that by just making them besties from the start, but it felt forced and strained for the entire series. We were supposed to believe that because they were both orphans and LGBTQ+, that would be enough to have them insta-bond, but that's not how anything works. That was the main problem with every episode. 'They Just Did' was used over and over again, and we weren't supposed to notice the massive plot holes. How did he get there? He just did. How does that make sense? It just does.
A few years ago there was a film maker in the downhill bike racing scene who very obviously had a thing for one of the riders. He made a few movies about him, full of long slow close ups and lingering shots. It looked good for 5 minutes, but it became really dull after that. That's what RTD is doing with Ncuti. He likes to watch him smile, dress up, dance around the sets, and cry, so that's what we're getting. The stories are secondary to his fawning.

The scenes early on in the season with the doctor and ruby were pretty good and a big step up from the non companion connections in the chibbnall era, boom is fine, 73 yards also fine, legend of ruby Sunday also fine, but unfortunately the finale ruined it for me, the way they ruined suetekh and the empty mystery boxes just made the season a waste of time really, much like the finale of season 6 made that season redundant ( he was in a robot suit garbage cop out). The doctor not wearing his proper outfit was super annoying and really annoyed me when he wore it in the last scene of the last episode....The way this season was promoted was pretty bad also, just davies everywhere talking nonsense and turning people against the season even before it started, guy needs to give hes ego a rest and let the actors and his leading star, THE DOCTOR take the helm as he should be ..

@@friendlyotaku9525 his moronic and hypocrite claims of the sonic looking like a gun then literally has a child character shooting a machine gun at a living thing in the finale, saying that were all equal then has a scene at the end of the star beast where the female characters chastise the doctor for being a male and saying how he should have stayed a female and the doctor stands there like a plum taking it looking a fool, saying the classic writers were wrong and 'old fashioned ' to have davros in a wheelchair ( even though it isn't one ) and being hypocritical having davros in his own season in his chair and having an actual villain IN a wheelchair in season 2 and much much more. "saying the classic writers were wrong and 'old fashioned ' to have davros in a wheelchair ( even though it isn't one )" Davros's life support machine functionally serves as a wheelchair.
"being hypocritical having davros in his own season in his chair and having an actual villain IN a wheelchair in season 2" ...back in the mid 2000s, his views will obviously have changed since then.

"he stands there with a dog lead on he can't get rid of?" Because it's intelligent rope, which is designed so it can't be destroyed or removed by the target and usually I'd have an issue with this but I don't because it has been set up since the Church on Ruby Road with the Intelligent Gloves (invented by the Doctor) so those are essentially a Chekhov's gun!
And Davros's life support travel machine is functionally a wheelchair, it might not have wheels but it is a chair designed to support a disabled man who was badly injured at some point during the Kaled-Thal War.

RE: Dot and Bubble. Black person here. I immediately picked up the fact that everyone was white. I always notice that in media, but it struck me as unusual in modern Who, because RTD has always made a point to have multiracial casting. At first I thought it was simply an oversight, but as the episode went on, I thought it they might be AI avatars or something. But the reveal contextualized so many previous elements. I wish the rest of the season had been as well crafted…

The stepping on the butterfly is a time-traveling trope from "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury.
And if you look at all the work of RTD back to _Queer as Folk,_ Ruby is a continuation of his archetype I call Little Red Riding Hood, in the context of Bad Wolf. Rose 0 from _QAF_ and _Bob and Rose,_ Rose 1 by Piper, Rose 2 by Finney, and Ruby _(Rubia_ means blonde in Spanish). There's also Little Red Riding Hood All Grown Up, _c.f._ Donna and maybe Amy, depending on how tight RTD and Moffat were.
