Same Daigo is literally like the life and soul of high level competitive Fighting games to this day especially of Street Fighter where he's a living legend!
Alright so everyone keeps talking about this tech and how long it takes in the lab but it's not something Daigo came up with. This was a nerf to the aegis from way back; depending on the character/normal you have, if you're positioned behind the aegis, you can spam normals forcing it to damage you quickly while also quickly dissipating it and punish if he retaliates close. I've done this with both Dhalsim and Menat for quite some time now. Unfortunately, I was hoping not much people would catch onto the tech (UK fgc showed me this and a lot of uriens got SHOOK when I did it 😅)
@@stephonjhn this is not the same tech . What daigo showed here was a slight adjustment to the old anti mirror tech. Ryusei here was fully aware the mirror tech existed as such , he used the back + mirror which has different properties including going further and vortexing hit opponents. So if you were to simply spam sweep you would be interrupted by the mirror and probably die . What daigo did here to avoid this was to do micro steps backwards after every sweep in order to be just far enough to not get interrupted too early by the suction mirror .
@@soraneptune4178 Hmmm yeah. Upon rewatch I realised that in the case of this tech, Daigo gave Ryusei quite literally no space or time to block, otherwise he'd have died. You're right, but I think it's definitely an application of the mirror tech on steroids and fully understanding how aegis works
Smug, I am a complete noob about any deep interactions in any fighting games. I am just a casual viewer who likes to watch fighting game videos. I really appreciate you pausing the video, putting it in a slow-mo and explaining why that Aegis interaction was godlike. Your elaboration really hit it home for me. Thank you very much.
Daigo already gets so much respect on his name, that the respect gets respect on it, AND he needs a smaller side plate just to put the extra respect that would have gone on his name initially but would fall off if they tried to put it on top of the two scoops of respect that are already there.
He actually is very very very hard worker, he practices hella hard. You can react like him if you would practice like him. Real inhuman thing about him is his work ethic
He did similar thing against nemo. When he pressed crouching HK he has to walk backwards so he wont be sucked forward to the aegis reflector. He also has to sweep at the right distance while hitting aegis reflector and urien at the same time so urien is on block and cant press button.
7:44 was utterly genius and thats SFV's meta-game number 2. Also, I think Daigo works for Capcom on the DL ( Probably a tester Please remember this comment, it will become relevant within the next few years )
Daigo's charges are lightning fast because he plays with a Hitbox controller, it's like an Arcade Stick, but the stick is replaced by a set of four buttons (left, down, right and jump), which are more responsive than a stick, because there's no course ( = more responsive, where a stick and a gamepad have a little course before clicking the direction, you lose some milliseconds in the process), and you can have a finger of your left hand on each button, which means you can optimize your charging time, you don't have to do a course from a direction to another, you have a finger on one direction, and the other finger on the opposite direction, you gain some milliseconds at every action you do. The Hitbox is arguably the most efficient type of controllers for 2D fighting games, if you're willing to learn to play with it, maybe with the exception of the 360/720 motion characters like Zangief, I just can't imagine playing him with that controller :-)
Was gonna say the same. Hit box doesn’t make you move through neutral positions on the way to other positions. More instant due to less animations happening in way to move.
The dualshock 4 (ps4 controller) can do this too. Nuckledu is very good at this as he uses the analog stick to charge. Both D_pad and analog stick can be used for movement.
@@marcusrios9203 I don't think anyone is under the impression Brian F is or will be on Daigo's level, but he is a very smart player who is good at breaking stuff like this down and finding tech.
Yeah and brian said on his latest video that what daigo did in this moment was beyond even him. Daigo was actively walking back in between the c.HKs to space them cuz aegis had some suction on hit, brian only noticed it after watching the HiFight breakdown.
@@nekky9534 as a player Brian did not reach his prime his literally just started to tap into his prime when he entered Red Bull Kumite. Brian Is speaking in context of now. Plus remember he was inspiration to the oro fireball loops
Did Daigo hitting the reflector on purpose also make his crouching kick animation recover faster? Cuz making a gameplan like that in the first place is not capable for mortal players.
So wait i just realized somethin too…when Daigo was getting hit by Aegis and doing cr.lk was it forcing Urien’s proximaty guard??? So he couldnt even jump out that super???
To be more precise he was hitting both the aegis and Urien, breaking the aegis WHILE adding more gray health AND preventing him from moving to set up the CA.
The mirror kick walk was the most obvious and utterly ridiculous example, but Daigo made Aegis Reflector look like nothing that entire set. Ryusei got it as a combo extender or nothing at all, something like three separate times Daigo casually perfect blocked the entire front-back-front mix-up. Knows the matchup nothing, Daigo has already found a counter to every single imaginable Aegis set-up and he will gladly demonstrate how they work as he kicks you in the head. And after that insane microwalk spectacle you can tell Ryusei was completely rattled, the next round was nearly free for Daigo. It must be pure hell to have to try and get in against Daigo knowing he will full punish ANYTHING you drop. Cornering him isn't even an advantage with how he blocks, and he's more than willing to wait you out. The man just doesn't seem to make mistakes in the scariest possible way.
Love your intro Smug. Best music in SF3. Curious, how do you feel about the best SF players in the US being Black. Does it make you proud? It would if I was you.
A lot of Japanese players play on hitbox now a days so they just hold back during a lot of normal inputs allowing them to get crazy sonic booms an Charge moves in general
Dude really is on another level, walking into the Aegis like that, just to say "You're not gonna play your game against me!". Daigo is the GOAT.
Even I was like, Daigo wtf you keep walking into that Aegis. Then he uses CA and my mind was blown 🤯🤯🤯 I cannot wait to see what he can do in SF6

When you realize he's micro walking forward between each of those kicks but still holds back in between to charge the super.
He’s walking backwards not forward
Does SFV have charge partitioning? That would actually be pretty cool
@@GokuInfintysaiyan it does. You can see it when people do Urien's stand jab to headbutt.

He is the only living legend! He may not win tournaments like he used to, but he is still the best.

When Smug gets impressed I get double impressed
Daigo does something: It was luck that, he wouldn't think about it. You watch the video again and understand that Daigo was 5 moves ahead of you 😎
I have no words for that aegis shield interaction
Daigo: *walks into Aegis on purpose*
Ryusei: Wait, that’s illegal.
🤣
He’s Babe Ruth…he’s Michael Jordan. People will still talk about Daigo in 30 years.
The aegis counterplay was amazing, but damn, those anti-airs were on point. 80% rate at least. Read them like a frigging hentai manga.
He also mixes up between using:
- Anti air normals
- Flashkicks
- Air grabs
Depending on which one is better for the situation. Daigo is CRAZY
Diago reminding us all why he's the main character.
Love watching smug react to matches
Agreed 👍
Daigo knew the distance AND the damage, and baited Ryusei into staying close enough for the CA. Ridiculous intuition 😳

Daigo is the first Fighting Game Scientist
There I said it
that one is desk lol but still he's the Beast
