    For those that dont know there was a break for several minutes between sets. With a momentum based character like Balrog I think it hurt Smug as did much of the chat when this was live. Not saying Smug would have won without the break but hopefully they can address that next year like they did by adding double elim for GF winner unlike last year.

      I agree as well we argued on this topic with an idiot last night. He said that tokido let amug wint the first set for showmanship.

    • @mikealbert728
      @mikealbert728 6 лет назад +4

      Magnum Brahms Im okay with that and understand the need for sponsors and commercials. I'm just saying do it intelligently. Double the commercials before GF in case of a reset. Let the players go straight in and put a 3 minute tape delay while they show commercials. Do something.

    • @chrizz_6786
      @chrizz_6786 2 года назад

      I know you posted this a long time ago, but I don't think I was loss of momentum. I think it was tokido analyzing smug's balrog during the break, and the reason i believe that is because smug went on to win the next to games and then tokido knew smug's weaknesses and had a comeback
      P.s. nvm I could've sworen that smug wins 2 more games but apparently not, but I still think that it was mostly tokido analyzing the situation

    Its not often we see Yolo Tokido.
    That was so much fun.
    Tokido usually plays very fundementally focused but thats what Smug was prepared for and thats why Smug was winning.
    Once Tokido brought in the YOLO and started taking more risks and playing more unpredictable...
    Smug didnt know what to do and fot scared cuz when he guessed right it was great but once he guessed wrong Akuma/Tokido would have so much momentum and damage on him and he just couldnt get a read on Tokidos new strategy in the second set.
    He got countered and beat.
    Beautiful match.
    Tokidos got layers and LAYERS of tactics up his sleave!!!!

    To all the people complaining about the break. All esports or sports have a break. It is time given to analyze your opponent or make up game plan or just get a breather. Its like none of you watched or played any sports. Soccer, basketball, tennis ect. Esports like Counter strike, Rainbow 6 siege get breaks during map changes. Even mobas get breaks between games. It is not just for the winner or loser. It is for both side to rethink their strategy and make up game plan. It is giving both the losing side the time to come back and the winner to better plan to execute and maintain their lead. Any player should have their mental game on point. I know momentum is really a thing but this happens in every game or sports so don't see why so much issue here when it is a normal thing and it should be there.

    Holy shit why is the comment section so divided? The FGC is suppose to be a community not a division. Both of these guys played their hearts out, the difference is that Tokido was just the better player on this particular day, doesn’t mean that smug can’t beat him.

      Tokido was in winners bracket (did not lose a match through the bracket). Smug came from losers bracket (a bracket consisting of players who lost a set in the tourney). Losing 2 sets eliminates you from the tournament. In Grand finals someone from losers has to win a set to "reset" the bracket. (Must win 2 sets to win match) While the person from winners only needs to win one set. It was fair and makes sense.

      Not only that akuma can literally combo from anything into anything with vtrigger 1/2 etc Akuma is the God of this game the only characters that come close and still pale in comparison are Guile/Ibuki/Cammy/Menat and Menat only in very capable hands! Yea sure is health is low but that don't mean shit when he has 50/500 set ups to destroy you with. I mean a game can be won off of demon flip set ups alone don't start mixing in all the options then really got a problem!

    I got confused, tokido lost three match in a row, after that why they reset the match to 0-0?

    • @jasonthomas6096
      @jasonthomas6096 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, in the grand finals the rules are that if the winner of the winners bracket which was Tokido loses a set to the winner of the losers bracket which was Smug, Tokido then falls into the losers bracket and Smug then would need to win another set to win the event. It makes it so that even if you have a bad set, you have a way of winning the tournament. Tokido only needed to win one set of a first to three in order to win, which is why after he lost the first set you hear the announcer Sakai say the bracket was reset. On the second set if Smug had won he would have been crowned the champ even though he lost a set.

    The Master of the Fist. Just would have been alot quicker if Capcom allowed Shin Akuma to be used instead of dicking around with demon flips that go south. And I certainly would of preferred if 'The Master' Ryu to have made it to the grand final, under the hands of Daigo.

    N entendi, o smug ganhou o primeiro set com 3 vitorias, ai foram para o segundo e o tokido ganhou 3, ganhando o segundo set, só q ele ganhou e foi campeão, pq?

    • @HopefulNihilist
      @HopefulNihilist 6 лет назад

      Antônio Carlos
      Ué... Esse torneio, como quase todos os outros de SFV é double-elimination. O que significa que pra ser eliminado, um player precisa perder dois sets. O Tokido chegou na Grand Finals pela Winners bracket. O que significa que ele não havia pedido nenhum set. Já o Smug, veio pela losers. Tendo assim que derrotar o Tokido duas vezes pra ser o campeão, enquanto o Tokido precisava ganhar só uma.

      He is not wrong. Pausing mid match kills the momentum. It gives the person ahead time to think which is true but it gives the person who is behind time to think about what is he doing wrong instead of during the moment. From all we know. If there wasn't one Tokido may have continued to making mistakes losing in the ending. Did the break actually made a difference? No one knows if it did or didn't make any difference but to say pausing mid match did nothing is simply not true

    I wouldnt say Tokido let Smug win that first set, he was still trying to beat him but i doubt it was his top priority at the time, he used to time to learn Smug's habits and then made good use of that download. Smug did pretty good as well, its just sad that he's always shy of that big W but Smug's the man. Props to both players, congrats to Tokido on the win.

      smug sucks. should have been daigo. daigo makes great adjustments just like tokido so he would have made tokido have to adjust again. that would have been fun to watch. stupid cheap balrog 🙁

    • @BadlndsBob
      @BadlndsBob 6 лет назад +26

      You two say/imply that Tokido let Smug win and that Smug sucks. I disagree. Did everyone else in the tournament LET Smug win so he could fight Tokido ? I mean, do you really think there is a conspiracy to let Smug win, or almost win, the title? If so, what's the purpose of this conspiracy? Did Tokido intentionally let Smug come to within one hit of winning to keep things exciting?
      Also, Smug sucks?! Does "suck" mean "beats 95% of his opposition" and "regularly reaches top tournament levels" where you come from? That would make sense.

    • @solitudegaming
      @solitudegaming 6 лет назад +4

      BadlndsBob Wasn't trying to imply that. Let me rephrase then. Tokido used the first set to learn Smug's habits. He was still trying to beat him in the process.
      Smug sucks? Really? You're insane. Lol. Didnt Smug beat said daigo to reach Tokido?

      BadlndsBob .... bro .... we have seen this time and time again. infil, punk, mena, nuckledu..... all they did was find a cute little loop to use over and over and over. every character has one. but eventually the great players learn the loop and dismantle it. kudos to smug for finding a cute little rhythm with balrog who like abigail deals absurd amounts of damage on every punishment. but the greats never fall for this horse shit for long....
