Probably not for long. You can tell they put all the effort and quality control into the little Zenfone, while the Flip is just a minor upgrade from the previous version. Besides, flippy camera used to be key feature of Zenfone phones, but now it's just one of the models. I think that means they are shifting focus away from it... It's only a matter of time before they drop it entirely.

Zenfone 8 looks insanely good. I’m gonna switch from my iPhone 8 to it. As much as people complain about the generic design, it has QOL features that literally no-one else is putting in anymore.
The Zenfone 8 looks promising, would be exciting to see how well the phone does in the long run. Hope someday this becomes a tipping point for other OEMs to go back to basics and leave out gimmicks. This could be a good template to copy from!

I've been doing research on getting a new phone and just came across this now. I'm sad to hear the prospect of the company potentially moving away from this flip-up camera design. I dunno. For me, since I grew-up during the height of cell phones and all of their wild designs, I want to have options like that again. I want companies to give me a smart phone that pushes on design. Stop giving me these bezeless bricks. Just change it up. I feel like everyone has been chasing Apple since they started this keyless screen fade and no one has really even tried to reimagine it again. I'm probably the outlier but I just want something different.

The 8 seems like such a good buy. I really enjoyed the size of the Galaxy S10e. After using the OP7Pro for a while now however, phones 6 inch and under just feel so small.
Table suggestion: Willing Table designers/makers should make a custom table for dave to show every video. They will make a table that they think will suit Dave’s needs and in return Dave will indirectly market the table to us viewers.
They’re moving away from the flippy cameras because the under display cameras are coming. Samsung already made one work for the Z Fold 3. Once under display cameras are here no one would want a pop up/flippy camera.

If Zenfone 9 could come up with the same specs but with wireless charging, then I'll definitely buy it. Since my Samsung Note 9 is still capable, I think I'm gonna hold on to it for a while and see if Xiaomi could also come up with the same specs with wireless charging and 3.5 mm jack.
They have to worst speakers though. I just changed my Huawei P20 Pro to Zenfone 7 pro. Holy shit the sound is bad. It's like my audio went from 720p quality to 240p
I can see some justification for leaving it out, but an SD slot in the Zenfone 8 would have made it damn near perfect. As it is, it's still one of the best phones available, even 4 months after this video came out. I'd take it over anything form Samsung or Apple, easily. I currently rock a Zenfone 6 still, with the original flip. It's great. I love the flip feature a lot. Just for fun things like actual high quality panorama shots it's fun. But size matters, and I really want to get back to smaller phones. Ideally, I'd take something sized like the original iPhone SE. 5 inches diagonal is plenty.
You are on point Dave mentioning the little zenfone 8 getting a lot of the basics right , i think a lot of phone manufacturers have lost the plot in some ways focusing on one or two headline grabbing features . Stuff like having speakers you hear even when you are out in an area where there is some back ground noise is important , having a pretty phone with zero bezels and crappy speakers mostly just for cosmetics at the expense of sturdiness in a drop situation is just not common sense. If you have ever tried to have a phone call in a noisy shopping centre using a phone with commonly very average speakers ...... good luck with that . Convenience features like the headphone jack , sd card , also important , good to see the little zen at least has a headphone jack . If the Zen came in a full sized wide body phone it would be on my shopping list, an SD card would have been nice to though . .

The only thing that hinders me of buying a phone wihtout a storage expansion slot, is that the 128GB, 256GB.... models cost as much as they would with the feature implemented. If they'd at least then lower the cost for each storage tier after removing the sdcard tray so that the need for bigger storage is met on another level.

Dave how about you put a table that can be lowered from the roof with hydrolics or chains whenever you need it, I think it fits the bunker/space aesthetic and could be useful !

The only thing that hinders me of buying a phone wihtout a storage expansion slot, is that the 128GB, 256GB.... models cost as much as they would with the feature implemented. If they'd at least then lower the cost for each storage tier after removing the sdcard tray so that the need for bigger storage is met on another level.
It priced itself out. Nobody will buy this trash if they can buy an iPhone for the same amount. It be like if KIA tried to compete with Lambo. Just no.

It’s funny to think that all phone companies have the tech for near 0% bezels and under screen cameras but they know that’s the point where nothing changes so they’re spending as many years as they can doing minor upgrades to get the most out of the consumer before they become completely identical.

One thing I notice with the ZenFone 8 is the saturation it uses in processing photos. Seems way too much compared to the Pixel 5.
