‘Td5 Hack’ How to test your wheel speed sensors.

In this episode of Dino’s Shed we use a cheap multimeter to establish wether or not there’s a good signal developing from an old wheel speed sensor and extend the wheel speed sensor cables while we’re at it. I also demonstrate what the signal should look like on an oscilloscope all to keep those three amigos at peace in the Td5.
This follows as a result of changing out a second hand front axle assembly and a suspension lift. All testing not requiring a nanocom or other code reader.

Hi there, I have a TD5 facelift on a 2004 plate. I have the 3 amigo's. So I changed the sensor cables, cut the plugs out in the engine bay and direct soldered them together in case the plugs were the issue and I have replaced the shuttle valve. But the code reader is saying sensor output too low. Any idea what that means ? its an I car soft v3

Why cut the wires when it can be tested at the plug without removing the wheel!?

If you are swapping over the shafts or replacing ball joints, then don't cut them. If you only need to swap a sensor, then it's quicker and easier to chop. I increase the length of the loom to allow for the suspension drop anyway. This front axle had already been cut before I got to it.

So what about the voltage out put of abs sensor?

It produces an alternating current that increases with wheel speed. Voltage will act in the same way but this is a good way to check their output after replacing a hub etc.

There's one of these sensors in each hub and signals back to the SLABS module to generate the speedo output.
