As said last year, chains on your ATV would stop all the traction issues you have late fall, winter, and early spring, we chain up our ATV and it’s amazing what it will go through, including the mud it will go through with chains. Skidders in the bush are chained up all the time, OR just keep getting stuck. It takes 45 minutes to do it the first time.
Mine is a Plowing beast with Close spaced V-Bar Chains on all 4. Had to ad 1 1/2" spacers to the Front for clearance issues.
It is heavy too. The 700 Polaris is 748 Lbs alone. Now add the Deep Cycle battery on the Front, Hydraulic pump and Controls on the back . The moose Plow with Hydraulics is over 150+ Lbs
I'm 235 Lbs, 100+ Lbs worth of Chains etc. It can make some impressive Piles of Snow.
I have a Rear suspension Lock and 4 stiffer Springs and The Factory Polaris Aluminum Box on the Back Has Stuff in it to add to the Weight...
I have more Hours on it Plowing Snow and Wood hauling than trail Riding .
It's like a stiff 1 Ton truck in the Woods for Trail Riding HAHAHAHA.

Hi Russel! People who fixes up furniture often use a colored wax - you heat it up and it melts down into that crack, then you take away the excess and sands it carefully with a fine sandpaper.. This way the boards have the opportunity to expand and contract and will not be broken... The wax seems to be sold in small sets with warying colors, so you can use the one which suits best... Hugs from us in Sweden!

Same flooring thing happened to me. My son went to the end of the row, took off the baseboard & drove a wedge at the end forcing the gap to close, then put the baseboard back. Good luck.
This is a great idea. They can still slide between each other with a good tap on the end especially when the pieces are cold.
I had the same issue with my gopro batteries. I was using 2 gopro 3 camera's. Since the 3s are so outdated, I upgraded to 2 gopro 11s. I bought 7 total batteries for the 11s. My research found to only use "white top" gopro batteries. They last the longest in cold weather. You can fix the flooring separation buy using a rubber mallet. Put a little wood glue in the gap then using the mallet, pound the board over until it closes the gap. It will take some time and be difficult but it will move. You can do this in this location because you only have 1 full piece and 1 partial piece to move over.
Russel, you lowered my BP again with the karate kick to the pallet with a swan dive into the snow! My thought on the electrical problem, check all wires moving the might have caused one to be cut touching the electrical box. Do by process of elimination just remove the wire from the circuit one at a time until you find the problem. Oh yes on the sub's why don't you get two or three and take home for snacks. They finagled the temperature control sheet reedings and inspections on a regular basis. It was encouraged by her district manager. I love a good sub myself but she cant bring herself to eat at one period. Love the channel and videos! keep them coming!

it's normal to get 120v between the black wire and the ground since the black is line wire and ground completes the path back to the panel. there must be a black wire touching a screw or the box somewhere to create your short

Wow, that Cheesy Chili Mac Lunch looked like Throw Together Glory. I make one myself with rotini, tuna, asparagus, parmesan, cannellini beans, onion, basil, and spinach. You could start it out just like you did with leftover mac and cheese if you wanted. Sauté up the veggies and sling it all in. Veggies are mix and match whatever you have.
I think the pallet won that round, but i'm pretty sure the tires are afraid of you now.
Russ, we got that cold and windy weather last night here in Timmins ON, still -30c here and the wind still blowing away right now. I left one of the cold water faucets cracked open so that the city water wouldn't freeze, as it happened before damaging the apartment below me....

You have a short in that box you were fiddling with. Check to see if a hot or neutral is touching ground or bond. And of course you have 120v between hot and ground that will never change. Make sure that you have 0v between neutral and ground assuming that your panel has a properly grounded neutral of.course
I had the same problem. Absolutely don't take up the flooring, You can use a colored flexible caulk to fill the gap. If the floor expands in warmer weather (as mine does) the caulk will move with it and will expand and shrink with the temperature just as the flooring does and it, like the flooring, is waterproof.
Ain't nothing more fun than screwing around with a box containing multiple wires. And of course you never really think how they're hooked up before you start disconnecting them.
I was doing a box with the exact same setup as yours. Figured I would remember how they were hooked up. After all, only a simple man would forget, right?
I ended up calling an electrician to do it. Took him 5 minutes. Cost me $60 bucks.
Modern light switches have a ground screw and 2 hot screw connections one hot screw connects to the black wire bringing power in from the breaker. The other connects to the black wire going to the light. The ground screw usually green is for the ground wire. Usually bare wire or in older wiring with green insulation connects to the usually green screw on the side of metal part of the switch that is part of the front of the switch. Guessing on how it is wired all white wires should be connected together. My guess is that you got one of the hot (black) wires connected to the ground screw on the switch causing a short when the switch is in the box. I can't tell for sure without seeing how it is connected.
I have the same 'distance' problem with my floor (because I did it myself), fortunately it is by the wall and under the cabinet, so I do nothing with it :) YET. One day maybe I will correct the whole row (but it involves removing wall panels first which I dread 😱 as much as you do fixing your wiring 🖐So... that's (slow) life 😁 Have a peaceful and cozy time in your cabin in the woods while it is frighteningly cold outside! 🙂😘
It seems that a side by side would suit your needs better ; I would suggest a nylon winch rope- I switched from a wire cable to nylon rope and it is so much easier to pull out and it doesn’t get kinked up as much. They are very strong.
Yes exactly, Russell i try had not to tell or recommend things to you (unless you ask of course) but winch rope is so much easier to use than cable…….ok thats it….my feedback for the year…..
It has to be something in the electrical box or the wire you snaked through, and that sucks going through hard spaghetti and wire nuts. After having rewired our house with junction boxes and switch boxes jamb packed with 12 and 14 gauge wires and nuts, it always happens when you push the switches back in...and it pisses you off!!!
My son lays flooring for a living and I asked his opinion. He doesn't know your exact products but here is what he said: the OSB board underlayment needs a layer between it and the flooring product, or this gaping will continue to occur, especially due to the extreme temperature fluctuations. He suggested foam backed panels to be put in place if you do decide to take it up and re-lay. He said the flooring can't slide against a foam panel like it can on the bare OSB underfloor. He thought maybe the pressure of the island may contribute to similar issues in the near future due to the locking action of the panels themselves. Or suggestion #2: put a rubber backed kitchen floor mat over the area with the gap. Then it's a problem for another day 😉

i had the same type of flooring in one of my cabins an on going problem if you take it apart silicone the joints when you put it back together helps or when you entre that part of the cabin don't look down also works
Use a Roberts pull bar 16 in from Ace hardware hook the bar on the end of the row that is not connected that would be under the toe kick of the kitchen cabinet and tap the bar towards the unlocked joint. Hopefully it will snap in. That's all I have. Make sure to joint is clean. Vacuum it out so there's no remnants of lunch or supper that fell on the floor.
From what I can see. It would appear that your metal box is overloaded ( To many wires) Something that would help running
wires through walls is a "fish tape" (Ask Ray). About the floor, that's how it works! I noticed you didn't put down the foam
under layment. That would have helped. Hang in there kid!!!!!
Problems solved. You can knock that flooring back together as many have suggested. Have someone stand on the floorboard that is downstream of the gap and then kick the board back together. Also you can have someone stand downstream and knock on the end of the row with a floor tool.
It is normal to measure 120V from black wire to ground. In your service panel the neutral and ground bus bars are connected.
When the neutral wire is connected to the earth wire in a socket, it creates a short circuit. This can cause electrical current to flow through the earth wire, potentially causing damage to the electrical system and potentially causing an electrical shock hazard to people or animals in contact with the earth---its SHOCKING ---is it electric or solar power? solar power has to go through an inverter unless you use a 12volt cig lighter plugs and accessories. You really have to almost have a 24v system for over 1000watts. Their are 12v, 24v,48v power (3000w) in the circuit, compared with 12V or 24V system for house hold appliances. Try to remember that your whole system can only apply to certain items 12v is very low for most house hold items.The whole battery system that has to be big to draw most 120v items 1000w for 10 minuets is a lot of drain on a solar powered system vs. USB (2.4amps or 2.4A, 12watts or 12W) chargers are often required by modern phones and tablets in order to charge the device. Now they have fast chargers 10 minuets If you see a cable that puts out power at 5V, 9V, 12V or even 2000mA, this is a sure sign that it's a fast charger. On the other hand, anything below 1000mAh is considered a slow charger. So look for 5V-2A or 5V-2000mA. So if you were going to make a shelf you would want to run with the fast charger system.
What I mean is you have to run certain items with a certain system 12v cig road pro slow cooker, coffee maker, doesnt use a 120vplug -- they have plus that go into a 12v cig lighter USB adapter 2.0 amp etc.... using 50 watts an hour of a solar system battery @ night drains your batteries, I dont know how you leave 20 watt light on over night that goes through an inverter from solar panels. A lot of people have generators that plug into their electrical system off grid.....that support the use of regular items washer, dryer, TV, coffee pot etc....I dont know if you can say whats the problem if you dont know what they system is city electric, solar, generator etc....if you were going to run it off solar you could make your own charging system during the day without an inverter. does it look complicated? lololool sorry

I love the idea of the wood pallet. It sure is easier to handle than those tires. But, I would turn it over so the slats are toward the ground and turn it width ways with two ties one on each side going towards the trailer. Cause it was swinging around quit a bit going down the trail and banging into trees.

Hi Russell, sorry for all your electrical problems!! You were right not wanting to go into that box. You made me laugh with the lunch prep with the Mac and cheese stuck to the bottom of the pot. What a masterpiece, glad you enjoyed it, not sure I could have. Great cloud footage, really enjoyed it.
Gorilla doublesided tape, a good foot long - Tape it to the board that is to be moved - Then put a plastic or steel block, also one foot long, on the other sticky surface of the tape. Wait for it to set up for 10 min or so - Then tap on the block stuck to move the board below - To remove the tape a little heat from a hair drier or heat gun should soften it off enough to release.
Nice footage of the outdoors and the two girls. Not sure how many batteries you are going to charge but could you have placed a multiple plug and screw to wall and be plugged into socket by the sink? Drill hole on bottom of cupboard and place multiple plugs inside of cabinet if you wanted them hidden. May save some work on your multiple switches and it sounds like you have a double switch within the mix which can be tricky.
To fix the floor you could use double suction cup lifter. The kind they use to move windows to realign it. Or if you have a foot of 2x4 ,2 sided tape and a hammer handy. You can stick the piece of 2x4 on the board, then hammer it back in place. Pea Soup ✌️
There's a short in the box somewhere. See if a hot or neutral is touching the box, it may even be one of the switches is not correctly wired or is bad internally.
120 volts from black to the box is normal, you're completing the circuit.

Take a 6 inch long piece of 2 by 4 and put a good quality piece of double sided tape on it, stick the 2 by 4 to the laminate flooring, close to the joint. Hammer the the 2 by 4 in the direction you need to close the gap, remove the block and clean up the residue with Goo Gone.
Totally works! Great advice. I also hot glued a pieceof 2x4 to my laminate and tapped it and that worked too. Then I peeled it off. No mark left. It has come apart a couple of times over the last 3/4 years in the same place but this is an easy quick fix. I think next time I may inject some carpenters glue to see if it holds better/longer.

We pulled our floating floor back to gather with two suction cup thing that are used to pull dents out of cars . Put one cup on each board and ran a ratchet strap through the hands and tighten until the came togather.

Hey Russell, you can hot glue a wooden block to the floor board close to the gap and give it a couple of whacks with a mallet and the gap should close right up. Then you pop the block off and peel the hot glue up.
Just wear a running shoe and kick the bloody boards back together . Problem fixed in 5 seconds !!!
Russ, RE: Flooring... Put your shoes on. Stomp/push the board. As you are stomping downward, also push forward. The board will snap back into place. Might take a few stomps. Or, if you have a flooring hammer (usually a hard yellow on one side, and white soft rubber on the other), you can use the soft side to try to do the same thing as I just described. Otherwise, as you stated, you'll have to pull it all apart.
Tracks for your atv. Expensive but virtually unstoppable in any depth of snow

Well it moved when it was cold! So turn off the heat and see if you can move it with a pry bar from the opposite end. Probably have to live with it. In floor heat would work also as an after thought, lol. Robin and I laughed outloud when you ninja kicked the pallet, lol. Thanks Russell.

As far as the floor try using a grippy tennis shoe and a stomp it forward to move the whole row into place one plank at a time. it's tongue and groove so it may work

Russell I would put your plates and bowls in the corner cabinet or on the other side of store above. You should put a power strip in the cabinet.
Ironically i was cleaning my kitchen and said now that's a clean kitchen and you said right after "A nice clean kitchen".
How about getting an oscillating cutting tool, preferably cordless and with fine tooth blade cut-out half the short board Get your leftover piece and measure it to fit the empty space then apply a fresh piece without the tongue. Maybe some Elmer's wood glue.
I used that flooring once and and removed it after less then a year ,I hate that crap nothing but problems only real flooring or vinyl flooring for me .

Your electrical item sounds like you need to verify your hot nad neutral wires as It is fine that there is 120 between the hot and box or ground ,that is how it is supposed to be.Maybe some confusion on the voltage side of the switches and the neutrals. I would send a diagram if I knew what each wire was going into the switch box. In future any type of junctions should always be in a seperate box as you are creating more of a possibiliity of shorts or discoonects in future as the box is reassembled and disassembled

Well nice to see you had a video up the pallet sure did an awesome job to the trail into the cabin looked like a smoother ride. your concoction with the KD looked tasty i shall have to try that myself as I always have some left over . lots of snow at the cabin IC, we just got dumped on down where i live the blowing doesn't help , Hope the groundhog was correct in predicting early Spring, I personally am done with this snow. that wire issue would be a real pain in the arse hope you get that figured out . i feel for you.
i would try wood filler to fix the flooring gap, the kind used to cover nail holes n such.
Just curious, why didn't you unscrew the cement board backer below the cupboard and tap into the existing outlet that's there? Seems like it would have been easier to run the wire.
The bummer with solar in winter can a heating wire for melting snow & ice off roofs work on solar panels so you dont half to clime up latter all the time

the electrical caps---have to be twisted on the wires and then crimped or they really fall off, its actually dangerous if they fall off because they can arc and spark. They also have connector tabs, heat shrink connector wire goes in each side the metal is in the middle and you crimp both sides, the other connects you place the wire in and close the top and snap it. Their are a lot of better wire connectors then the orange ones you have-caps. You really should redo your wire caps if they fall off. the best one allow your wires to flat connect on each side like heat shrink connectors. If your just shoving it all in there i guess people twist and crimp the caps. their are better ways to do it. was that to long writing?
Anyway I was wondering if you had a water tank for your fireplace? you can always take showers from the water being heated from the fire place. I cant imagine what its like to live out there. I live in the desert and my pipes break outside every year. I cant imagine what its like to be more northern It's definitely a lifestyle in every way to live there ---water, heat, electricity, food, clothing, washer dryer --shopping for long term stuff...loneliness being away from other people or being alone a lot(makes everything hard work) and the conditions are dangerous..... life is fully of difficult decisions..absolutely ---homes are burdens---some people live in RV's in arizona for the winter and drive up to cooler areas in the summer......thats a great idea!! great videos thats for your effort and video skills...
Why not build corner selfs connected to your existing cabinets over your sink, like they did back in the day,? for plates, saucer's, cups, as long as they match and there easy to reach too. ..... With a small cabin using ALL the wall space is essential! ... I have a "Dry Tiny House" Upstate NY on the Canadian Border. ....... Ive also used 2 inch strips, 2 feet long of left over wood, stained pretty hooks ( different lengths with hanging pockets for phone/ chargers/ect. )
Russel they sell a tool that fit into the end where you have a space to hit it with a rubber hammer.but i had the same problem. that tool im talking about i modified and made it longer.because the tool is short.I hope it helps.

Hey , easy fix on the floor , put tennis shoes on stand on the left board beside the crack use your other foot, and you kick it with the bottom of your other foot, and it will grab and slide it into the other one

Russel - The center switch you have a white wire on one side of the switch nd a black wire on the other side of the same switch. Looks like a dead short.
