Choosing the right sinker size

  • Choosing the right sinker size depends on tidal run, line and leader size, depth and bait size.
Some sinkers are made for special applications, but most of the time the weight of the sinker is more important than the shape.
You need to be on the bottom and you'll need to change things up as the situation changes.
If you go too heavy the fish will feel the weight and you'll get less bites.
The key is to use the minimum to keep you on the bottom, and I'll show you how to determine that in this video.

Just use the carolina rig. You can put a pretty heavy egg sinker and when the fish bites he won't feel the sinker and giving the fish time to get hooked before he notices the weight because the bait will slide.

Great video mate.Another thing that will lift your sinker off the bottom is drifting weed accumulation on line.Keep up the great work.

Love the fin-nor reels, run offshore weekly and have landed 8ft shark on them with out a problem. I have even not washed them off several times and still work like new. But besides that I use 3 oz egg sinker in 70ft of water and 2 oz in 50ft or less, however if you pull up a rod and line is all twisted then use a heavy sinker. Only talk out of experience. Tight lines brother.
